Exclusive: It was more than a year ago that a 45-year-old British woman, Nicola Bulley, went missing walking her dog in the sleepy northern English town of St Michael’s on Wyre.
What followed was three weeks of frenzy, one of the country’s most publicized, televised searches for a missing person in recent years that ended in tragedy when Bulley’s body was discovered on February 19. A few months later, a coroner determined that Bulley’s death was due to accidental drowning.
For Kate Beal, CEO of Confessions of a Psycho Killer indie Woodcut Media and founder of the UK’s nascent Association of True Crime Producers (Atcp), who was a similar age to Bulley and is also a mother, that three-week period and the media scrum that accompanied it did not sit comfortably, and she set about mulling over how the true crime TV community could ensure there was not a repeat.

According to a royal commentator, sharing a glimpse into a “private moment” could be good for Prince William and Kate Middleton. Why? Because the couple would potentially “keep the rumor mill from spinning” as the Princess of Wales continues recovering following a January 2024 abdominal surgery. Ahead, the commentator’s advice and Kate’s reason for keeping the details of her hospitalization private.
It could be ‘worth their while’ for William and Kate to release a photo
A photo may be an important step as Kate, 42, continues to recover after undergoing a “planned” abdominal surgery on Jan. 16, 2024. Speaking to the U.K.’s Sky News, royal commentator Jack Royston told anchor Kay Burley that a visual of Kate might be a wise move for her and William.
“[The Princess of Wales] is still recovering. We still haven’t seen her, we still haven’t seen a picture of her,” he said (via Newsweek).
Kate left The London Clinic on Jan.

If you spent Monday morning watching or listening to the news in the UK, you would be forgiven for thinking that the BBC was getting it badly wrong on impartiality.
Lucy Frazer, Britain’s Culture Secretary, was interviewed by almost every major news show in the country, ostensibly to speak about some uncontroversial reforms the government is making to the BBC’s regulatory arrangements.
As she was paraded in front of a variety of presenters, Frazer was repeatedly pressed on whether the BBC was biased. She answered yes, on behalf of both the government and the BBC’s millions of viewers and listeners
“There is a perception amongst the public that the BBC is biased,” Frazer told Sky News. She went further in an interview with Gb News: “Audiences are feeling like the BBC is not performing that role in relation to impartiality and they are getting less impartial...

Mike Tindall has a nickname for his cousin-in-law, Prince William, and it’s poised to get him in “trouble.” What the former professional rugby player calls the Prince of Wales isn’t simply “Willy,” “Wills,” or even “Wombat,” as the 41-year-old’s been known to be called. Rather, it’s a cheeky nod to the father of three’s drinking skills or lack thereof.
‘One-Pint Willy’ is Tindall’s nickname for William ‘because he’s not the best of drinkers’
Tindall spilled the beans, or should we say pints, on the Dec. 20 episode of the “Seven: Rob Burrow” podcast. Speaking to Burrow and his wife, Lindsey, Tindall, along with his wife and cousin to William, Zara Tindall, revealed the future king’s nickname.
“For the Prince of Wales, he is known as ‘One-Pint Willy,’’ the former professional rugby player said. “He is known to me as ‘One-Pint Willy’ because he...

Laurence Fox’s highly misogynistic rant on Dan Wootton Tonight, which led to the actor and politician’s firing from Gb News, was Ofcom’s most-complained-about TV show of the year in 2023.
The episode in September, in which Fox ranted about journalist Ava Evans – saying no “self-respecting man would climb into bed with her” – narrowly beat complaints around Bridgerton star Adjoah Andoh’s comments during King Charles III’s Coronation to the top spot of the regulator’s annual list.
Fox was fired from Gb News following the rant, which generated nationwide headlines and amassed a total of 8,867 complaints, ahead of Andoh by around 200.
Ofcom investigated almost immediately due to the severity of the breach and it is one of a dozen Gb News shows that have been or are being probed by the regulator this year, with five already found to be in breach. Fox, who regularly featured on...

The coronation of King Charles III and his wife Queen Camilla, set to take place in the U.K. on Saturday morning local time, is likely to be the last major royal event for at least a decade, with thousands of guests attending Westminster Abbey in person and hundreds of millions more watching on screens across the world.
But what does a coronation actually involve? And where can you watch? Variety is here to answer all your burning royal questions.
What Will Happen?
Technically the crown passed to King Charles the moment that his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died last September (which is why he’s been known as King Charles since that day). But the coronation will see him officially invested with regal powers, which are mostly ceremonial these days.

There has been plenty of exceptional broadcasting after the death of the Queen, a much-planned-for event that, somehow, still feels bigger than anyone could have anticipated. The presenters have been heroes – solemnly narrating a shot of a gate for hours on end is quite a skill – and being able to watch King Charles III’s proclamation ceremony, televised for the first time, was goosebump-worthy. But there’s always a moment when it all starts to get a bit silly, and that moment has now arrived with the surreal livestream of the Queen’s lying-in-state. Her coffin is in Westminster Hall before her funeral on Monday, so that the public can pay respects; for five days, it will be filmed 24 hours a day. Anyone can tune in as people file past – some in rucksacks and raincoats, some in their best black hats – watery-eyed, bowing their heads before moving on. As I write,...

Updated 03:20 Am Pt: The race to replace Boris Johnson has begun in earnest and ITV News and Sky News will now both host debates in the coming days, with the BBC expected to follow suit.
Eleven Conservative candidates have thrown their hats into the ring to be the next UK Prime Minister, following Johnson’s bitter sort-of-resignation last week, but by the time the Sky debate takes place on Monday 18 July that number will likely have been whittled down to around four.
Candidates will need to have enough nominations from fellow MPs later this week in order to get through to the final four and, once down to two, the Conservative membership base will make the final decision, with more debates expected over the summer.
The BBC is shortly expected to unveil its plans while Channel 4 is yet to confirm whether it will host a debate. Last time there was a General Election,...

A controversial episode of Celebrity Big Brother was the most complained about British show of the decade, while Love Island, The X Factor and ITV daytime show Loose Women also make the list from regulator Ofcom.
More than 25,000 people complained about an episode of last year’s Celebrity Big Brother on Viacom’s Channel 5. The complaints were centered around an incident where former Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett alleged assault by fellow housemate Ryan Thomas, who starred in Coronation Street.
The second most complained about show of the decade was an episode of daytime talk show Loose Women from 2018. The episode in question featured an argument between presenters Kim Woodburn and Coleen Nolan, with the majority of complaints arguing that there was bullying on the ITV show.
Elsewhere, Love Island made the list at number eight. The episode, from 2018, featured contestant Dani Dyer (left), daughter of British acting legend Danny Dyer,...

Earlier this week, Mads Mikkelsen headed to France where he was given the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters for his acting talents, with his "The Hunt" director Thomas Vinterberg, also receiving the same honor. So Mikkelsen was in a pretty good mood when he sat down with Kay Burley of Sky News, where he spilled a bit of news about his role in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." Obviously, **spoilers ahead**. The actor casually dished during the interview that he would be playing the father of Jyn Erso, portrayed by Felicity Jones. As you'll recall, the theory that Jyn Erso is Rey mother's has been shot down, so it'll...

Ancestry and parentage have been among the most important themes in "Star Wars" for as long as the series has existed. Finding out who his true father is nearly drives Luke Skywalker mad with grief in "The Empire Strikes Back"; not knowing who Rey's parents are in "The Force Awakens" has led to rampant speculation since the film came out. Plot details regarding this year's standalone "Rogue One" film are, of course, scarce, but co-star Mads Mikkelsen ("Casino Royale," "The Hunt," "Hannibal") just semi-accidentally gave something away: He's playing Jyn Erso's (Felicity Jones) father. Social media users have reacted angrily or with bemusement after Eamonn Holmes conducted a cringe-worthy interview with Jeremy Corbyn.
The presenter went 'full Alan Partridge' by using tortuous football analogies ("Every young lad has a dream of playing in the cup final - was yesterday your Fa Cup Final?") and asked inane questions during the exchange. Holmes immediately came under fire from critics on Twitter who accused him of dumbing down political debate.
The new leader of the Labour party batted away with a number of questions, and was left bemused at some of the interjections made by Holmes in the uncomfortable interview.
"People will say I'm sucking up to you or being soft - but people will say your outlook is 'a bit hippy'," declared the Sky News man, who seemed embarrassed to ask tough or political questions beyond, "Why don't you just admit you hate the Tories!

A petition on Change.org asking for Burley to be sacked also drew more than 55,000 signatures.
An Ofcom spokesman told The Guardian: "Ofcom received a number of complaints about Kay Burley's questioning style during an interview about an accident at Alton Towers. We have carefully assessed whether this interview exceeded generally accepted standards.

Kay Burley will not face an Ofcom inquiry over her interview with an Islamic human rights advocate.
Cerie Bullivant, from the group Cage, walked out of an interview with the Sky News anchor in February after taking issue with her questions.
Burley asked Bullivant for his thoughts on the recent Isis beheadings and also asked whether he condemned the actions of Jihadi John.
"Your question is inherently Islamophobic and racist," Bullivant replied, arguing that Muslims should not have to defend their humanity by condemning the "brutal" actions of Isis.
"Nonsense, get over yourself," Burley said.
An Ofcom spokesperson said in a statement on Monday (March 30): "Ofcom has carefully assessed a number of complaints about whether a presenter's questioning style was appropriate during an interview about executions carried out by Isis.

With six weeks to go until the General Election, the campaigns have well and truly begun as David Cameron and Ed Miliband took part in Sky News and Channel 4's Battle for Number 10 tonight (March 26).
The Prime Minister and the leader of the Labour Party answered questions from a studio audience and Jeremy Paxman - in his first post-bbc broadcast. Kay Burley was also on hand to help lead proceedings.
The overall feeling of the first election programme was that it was well put together, but some disliked Paxman's interviewing style - or frankly were scared by him:

Ukip leader Nigel Farage has been invited to take part in one of three leaders' debates to be held before the next General Election.
Broadcasters BBC, ITV, Sky and Channel 4 have announced their initial proposals for the televised debates, which will take place in April 2015. In a further change, Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg would take part in just two of the three debates, having spoken at all three prior to the 2010 election.
The plans - which the broadcasters say reflect "changes in the political landscape" since the last election in 2010 - are as follows:
One head-to-head debate featuring the current prime minister, Conservative party leader David Cameron, and leader of the opposition, Labour party leader Ed Miliband. Hosted by Jeremy Paxman and introduced by Kay Burley, this will air on Sky and Channel 4;
One debate featuring Cameron, Miliband and deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Some British news reporters covering Thursday's independence referendum in Scotland have themselves become the news after describing the challenges they have faced. The referendum has split celebrities in Britain. If voters support independence, Scotland would become independent after hundreds of years of being part of the U.K. News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch has also been among industry folks tweeting about the referendum. Sky News' Kay Burley on Wednesday reported from Aberdeen, calling a pro-independence campaigner a "knob," a British word for "prick," on air when she thought she was off-camera. “We’ve got one or two

Well, it's definitely better than Daybreak.
It might not be the highest praise ever heaped on a breakfast TV show, but ITV's big cheeses will probably be breathing a sigh of relief this afternoon that they haven't found themselves another laughable turkey.
Good Morning Britain: Reactions and reviews round-up
Good Morning Britain launch: As it happens - Live Blog
Despite numerous revamps and hosts, Daybreak was doomed from its opening show, which failed to match the hype and was an uncomfortable hybrid of its predecessor GMTV, ITV's fierce rival BBC Breakfast and most oddly of all, The One Show.
Good Morning Britain's launch has, deliberately, been much more low key. The tabloids have been fed some quotes from Susanna Reid and her poaching from the BBC gave the Daily Mail plenty more reasons to ogle at her "pins", but the show hasn't suffered from the same pre-debut hullabaloo...

ITV launched its latest attempt in the breakfast TV war earlier today (April 28), with Good Morning Britain landing on our screens.
Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins co-hosted the brand new format, following Daybreak's end on Friday. But how well did they fare?
Most of the early reviews appear to be largely positive, with most people commenting on its similarity with Us morning show Good Morning America. Digital Spy has compiled a round-up of reviews and reactions from around the web below:

Goodbye Daybreak. Good morning, erm, Good Morning Britain.
ITV's latest attempt to revive their breakfast schedules and make a dent in the ratings of their fierce rivals at BBC Breakfast comes in the shape of four familiar faces from morning television.
Sky's Sean Fletcher and Charlotte Hawkins, former GMTV host and all round good egg Ben Shephard and the star attraction, who ITV no doubt hope is the jewel in their crown, Susanna Reid.
Poached from the BBC and fresh from a successful run on Strictly Come Dancing, ITV are hoping she's the perfect mix of sharp journalism and warm presenting. Just don't say the words Christine or Bleakley.
Will Good Morning Britain be ITV breakfast's biggest hit since Roland Rat? Or have we got another Daybreak disaster on our hands?
From 6am on Monday (April 28) morning we'll be live-blogging the launch and trying to avoid dropping ketchup from our bacon sandwich on our keyboard.

Kay Burley today celebrated 25 years at Sky News by signing a new five-year contract with the channel.
We celebrate the occasion by revisiting nine of her most memorable moments - from making Peter Andre cry to an embarrassing religious faux pas:
1. Insania!
Trust Kay Burley to really stick the knife in! The presenter was tugging at poor Andre's heartstrings during an interview with the popstar which suddenly moved onto his family, with questions like: "Do [your children] know that their mummy's got married [to Alex Reid]?" She then brought out footage of Dwight Yorke doubting Andre's initial claims that he was going to adopt Dwight's son Harvey.
Andre began to well up, but that didn't stop Burley going straight for the jugular by asking him how he would feel if Reid wanted to adopt his children. And if that wasn't enough, she then rephrased it and attempted to ask it again! Andre terminated the interview but Burley remained totally unfazed.

He was a failed chat show host, now he's a movie star: Here Alan charts a remarkable life journey in his own words
Last week on Mid-Morning Matters, my radio and TV show (there's a webcam), I hosted a phone-in that questioned for the first time Jesus's ability to walk on water. My own theories include "thick layer of ice below surface" and "submerged jetty". Yet many of my callers refused to scrutinise Jesus's deeds at all, preferring to take them at face value, even if that betrayed a lack of intellectual curiosity. I was saddened by that, so when I was asked to sum up why I've become a national treasure, I wanted to look at the facts.
