The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of James Cameron’s The Abyss will not be coming to the UK, it seems. One scene has cost it its release.

A couple of weeks ago, the much-awaited new 4K transfer of The Abyss debuted on video on demand services in the US, but has remained absent from UK equivalents. Furthermore, whereas two other long-awaited 4K discs of James Cameron films – True Lies and Aliens – have gone up for pre-order in the UK, there’s been no sign of The Abyss.
Now we know why: it’s not getting a UK release.
The reason goes back to a sequence in one version of the film, where a rat has to breathe underwater. This has seen the film hit problems in the UK before, and when Disney submitted the 4K reissue to the BBFC this time around, the response – as per...

It may sound silly to say, but a retail store can have a profound effect on you, one that you may not realize until much later. I've had several such stores act as impactful hubs throughout my life, destinations where I could access the material that enlightened and enriched me as I grew up — everything from comic book stores to regular old bookstores to record shops.
Of course, stores that sold physical media for cinema — which comprises DVDs, Blu-rays, and now 4K Uhd discs — were and are my most prized places. For anyone that's pre-ordered Star Wars: The Force Awakens from Amazon, you may have received a notification that the Blu-ray/DVD would be released on April 5th. That date has since been taken down from Amazon.com but, as Bill Hunt from The Digital Bits points out, the date is still listed on Amazon Canada (Update: Which has now been taken down as well).
