Michael Dudikoff leads a military-themed double feature in “Platoon Leader” and “Soldier Boyz,” released on Blu-ray by Kino Lorber. The first is a standard “Rio Bravo” knock off taking place during the Vietnam War. A recent West Point graduate arrives in Vietnam and is assigned to command and defend a jungle outpost. “Soldier Boyz” is the story of a former Marine working with inner city youths who are serving time and are recruited to join him on a mission to free an aid worker held hostage by a Vietnamese warlord. “Platoon Leader” is a standard military action drama, while “Soldier Boyz” is a rescue tale which takes place several decades after the end of the Vietnam War. While both movies are set primarily in Vietnam and they both feature Dudikoff, that’s about as far as the similarities go.

“It’s that time of year….” for another big holiday themed comedy. We’ve had a big family yuletide mix of laughs and tears with Almost Christmas, that’s, ahem, almost a month old now. That bit of tinsel joined a long list of similar movie comedies like Love The Coopers and a film now considered an annual viewing tradition for many, National Lampoon’S Christmas Vacation. Yes, they’re all holiday hijinks with the family, but that other family is largely ignored. I’m speaking of the “workplace family”, the folks you bond with while “on the job” (many “workaholics” spent more time with them than their spouses and kids). Ah, the studios got the hint, so the newest movie present under the big multiplex tree is all set to be unwrapped. Looks like we’re all invited to the big Office Christmas Party.

Maybe it’s the holiday spirit jingling my bells, or my appreciation of an office party gone absurdly out of control (as a cubicle drone, I understand such a fantasy), but Office Christmas Party hits the dankest, dopest celebration notes. Does it break storytelling boundaries or re-write tradition? Hell no. Co-workers freak, fight and let their inhibitions strike fear into Hr representatives to a degree that only extravagant dollar signs and Hollywood influence can miraculously achieve. It’s the kind of sexy, sinful yuletide action that would land you on Santa’s special naughty list, moronic in reality, yet drunkenly jolly enough to light the f#%kin’ candle this Xmas season.

TV Review: The Vampire Diaries: Season 6, Episode 21: I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime [The CW]
The CW’s The Vampire Diaries I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime TV Show Review. The Vampire Diaries: Season 6, Episode 21: I’ll Wed You in the Golden Summertime, taints the air with critical thinking and possible wedding bliss. Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) help Jo (Jodi Lyn O’Keefe) with last minute wedding preparations.
Anytime an episode starts off with a nightmare, it’s usually a sign that dark clouds and mayhem will follow. Bonnie has had a very rough ride this season. Her abilities, mental game and trust have all been put to the test. She has been pushed about as far as a character can…without breaking. This opening nightmare was solid but I wondered if it was too much for Bonnie. The scuffle with Lily Salvatore (Annie Werching) was well played. The dialogue was sharp and the brief encounter was heart skipping.
