In less than two weeks one of the most thrilling blockbusters of the summer, Bong Joon-ho‘s Okja, is arriving. While we recommend going into the globe-trotting adventure cold (and seeing it on the big screen, if possible), Netflix has now released a second trailer, which ups the emotion, as well as a huge gallery of new images.
One of our Cannes favorites, we said in our review, “A dystopian story about a genetically engineered beast with overt anti-capitalist connotations, Bong Joon-ho’s Okja represents a synthesis and an upgrade – in scale as well as quality – of the director’s previous outings The Host and Snowpiercer, confirming him as one of the finest contemporary craftsmen of intelligent, ambitious blockbusters.”

Netflix has been in the original films game since 2015, but they’ve yet to have the kind of movie that turns heads around the world. They’ve had their fair share of award contenders (“Beasts of No Nation,” “13th”) and high profile projects (“War Machine”), but nothing near the level of a global blockbuster. “Okja” could very well change that.

The latest from “Snowpiercer” and “Host” director Bong Joon Ho, “Okja” is the story of young girl who travels to New York City to save her pet super-pig from a global corporation intent on making her the face of their new brand and turning her into their next big product. The film’s global settings and international cast give it a worldwide appeal that many Netflix movies have lacked.

It’s been one full season of The Walking Dead since Steven Yeun's character, Glenn Rhee, was brutally murdered at the hands of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's sadistic Negan, and fans of the show are still in mourning for the beloved character, who had survived with the group for six seasons.
Yeun stopped to talk with Et's Jennifer Peros at the New York premiere of his new fantastical drama, Okja, and the star opened up about his "impactful" final scene on the AMC zombie series.
"I think I'm just grateful for it," Yeun shared. "I'm grateful that the character got to leave on such a high note. It's really cool."
While Yeun's gory bludgeoning ended his time on the series, the 33-year-old star says he still watches the show, and will continue to when season eight premieres in October.

A dystopian story about a genetically engineered beast with overt anti-capitalist connotations, Bong Joon-ho’s Okja represents a synthesis and an upgrade – in scale as well as quality – of the director’s previous outings The Host and Snowpiercer, confirming him as one of the finest contemporary craftsmen of intelligent, ambitious blockbusters.
Okja is set in a parallel, not-very-different present, where the giant agrochemical corporation Mirando has covertly engineered a new breed of “super-pigs” — ostensibly to solve the world’s hunger problems, but really just to sell cheap meat and make a shit-ton of cash. Gmo foods carry a stigma, however, so Mirando lie about the provenance of the super-pigs, claiming they were discovered on a Chilean farm. To divert the public’s attention, the company’s grotesque CEO, Lucy Mirando (Tilda Swinton), launches a massive promotional campaign in which farmers across the world will compete in raising the largest super-pig...

Bong Joon ho’s “Okja” was booed at its Cannes Film Festival press screening on Friday after a technical issue caused the film to be projected in the wrong aspect ratio for several minutes at the start of the movie. Boos were also heard when the Netflix logo appeared on the screen prior to the glitch. The screening at the Lumière Auditorium proceeded normally after the issue was resolved.

We've got a fun trailer for Netflix's upcoming original film Okja from director Bong Joon Ho (Snowpiercer) and I love it! This is a freakin' fun trailer and it looks like Okja is going to be a great movie! On top of that, the movie seems like it has a lot of heart. This first full trailer for the movie definitely got me excited about watching it.
I love the story it tells, I love the visuals being used to tell that story, and I especially love the energy and tone that I'm feeling from this trailer.
The film has a fantastic cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, An Seo Hyun, Byun Heebong, Steven Yeun, Lily Collins, Yoon Je Moon, Shirley Henderson, Daniel Henshall, Devon Bostick, Woo Shik Choi, Giancarlo Esposito and Jake Gyllenhaal.

The 70th Cannes Film Festival is now up and running, it may only be a couple of days into the festival but Netflix is taking advantage of the fact that its original film Okja will premiere at the festival and have released the first full-length trailer alongside the poster and a few images from the production.

It may not win the Palme d’Or if the jury president has his way, but that doesn’t lessen our anticipation for Bong Joon-hoo‘s Snowpiercer follow-up Okja. Starring Ahn Seo-hyun, Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Steven Yeun, Lily Collins, Devon Bostick, Byun Hee-bong, and Shirley Henderson, the Netflix-produced and distributed feature tracks the struggle to stop a multinational corporation from kidnapping the titular monster. The first full trailer has now arrived which shows off much more of the adventure.
“At first, Darius Khondji, my cinematographer, and I wanted to shoot Okja on 35mm, but Netflix insisted that all Netflix originals be shot and archived in 4K,” Bong tells Variety, discussing the approach to cinematography. “Khondji then figured that we would use Alexa 65, which equates to a 70mm film in digital format. It makes a great cinematic vibe.”

“Pigs deserve happy dreams, just like the rest of us.” That’s the message imparted by Lucy Mirando, aka Tilda Swinton, in a new viral video for Bong Joon-ho’s Okja. Following his thrilling sci-fi feature Snowpiercer, Bong Joon-ho is back this year with another fantastical film, the monster movie Okja. Starring Ahn Seo-hyun, Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Steven Yeun, Lily Collins, Devon Bostick, Byun Hee-bong, and Shirley Henderson, ahead of a Netflix release this summer, the first teaser trailer has landed.
“It’s a very shy and introverted animal. It’s a unique animal that we’ve not seen before,” the director previously said, regarding the main creature, which can been briefly seen in the teaser. Following a young girl named Mija, the Netflix-produced and distributed feature tracks her struggle to stop a multinational corporation from kidnapping the titular monster, who just so happens to be her best friend — and a genetically manufactured pig, which seems to be created by Swinton’s character.

Brad Pitt’s Plan B production company has been gaining serious momentum of late. Their recent success saw their latest film, Moonlight, (eventually) win the Best Picture Oscar, and their magic touch found its way onto the small screen with Zal Batmanglij’s The Oa. Its new film will also appear on Netflix, and today a trailer for Okja arrived online.
This is the latest from Snowpiercer and Mother director Bong Joon-ho, co-written with Jon Ronson with a multi-national cast bringing the strange tale to the small screen. The dual allowances of a free hand and a decent budget were the factor that brought the director and the distributor. He told The Atlantic,

Horror is really the only genre that has entries that, while “good,” may not necessarily mean “recommended.” So, how does that affect what is “definitive?” A recent conversation brought up the nightmare of a movie A Serbian Film (great review here from Justine) which, by all accounts, is a horror film. But, while everyone in film circles knows about the film (many have even seen it), I can’t imagine anyone actually recommending it. It’s made impact, sure. But at what cost? The best horror films aren’t simply there to scare and disgust viewers. They’re there to serve as metaphors for other issues, however big or small. But the best ones are those that do it in a way that, while still may scare and disgust you, will also make you think and reevaluate your situation.
