Riti Ramanujachari is an Indian-Australian writer, director, and producer from Western Sydney. Born in Abu Dhabi, Riti moved to Sydney when she was 2 years old. Armed with her Grandpa's camera, she began performing and filming small videos with her family and this made Riti realize she had a passion for creating and telling stories.
In 2020, Riti was a finalist in the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival with her short documentary 'Possibility not Disability.' Riti's writer and director debut short film 'A Girl Meets A Boy' was selected for the Pune Short Film Festival as well as the 2023 Los Angeles Lift-Off Film Festival. At the end of 2021, Riti created and wrote the pilot episode of 'The Detention Diaries' which received an Official Selection at Sydney Web Fest 2023. The web series is currently in development. She also co-created and edited the short documentary 'Tell Me About Your Mother' which is now streaming on SBS on Demand as part of the 2023 AFTRS Documentary Showcase. In 2024, she produced the proof of concept 'When Dogs Go To Heaven' which won Best Cinematography in the Student Fiction category at the 2024 Sony Catchlight Film Festival.
Riti has completed short courses at the Australian Theatre for Young People and recently completed a Bachelor of Screen: Production at the Australian, Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS). Riti is a passionate creative who is drawn to stories that explore the authenticities and nuances of the human experience, through the lens of genre. She believes in the same way there's no one emotion or experience that encapsulates what the human experience is about, there is no one narrative that depicts this and through various genres, Riti hopes that the screen content she makes and is a part of, ignites something in an audience.
