Newcastle‘s manager doesn’t really do under-statement when things are going his way: fair play to him, his last two results have been won on the back of belligerent rigid structure and patience (as well as thanks to some costly mistakes by the opposition). But surely he wasn’t suggesting that he was just like Sir Bobby Robson in the wake of his latest victory against Liverpool?
Perhaps his allusion to Robson having some dark days on Tyneside was just an indication that it can happen to anyone, and that life up here is “not all gin and tonics and aperitifs” (no, me neither). Perhaps he wasn’t trying to say that he is to be judged alongside the Geordie knight, but it’s hard to resist that when he’s also claiming he sort of foresaw victories coming, a little bit (but don’t...

Newcastle’s long history of rejecting future star players in their youth will yield yet another name after it was revealed that we turned down the chance to sign a teenage Ramsey.
Former Toon favourite Robbie Elliott tweeted the devastating revelation immediately after the 23-year-old had rifled home the winner for Arsenal in Saturday’s Fa Cup Final.
I remember training with Ramsey as a 15/16 year old at #nufc Could have got him for 500k.Arguably wouldn't be the player he is today #shame
— robbie elliott (@robbieelliott3) May 17, 2014
He came when Roeder was manager. Trained with first team and didn't look out of place even at that young age. Club wouldnt pay the fee #nufc

Not the best judgement call made by the Club to turn down a player that would join Arsenal for £5 million in 2008 from Cardiff and...

Over the years Newcastle have handed out a fair share of pastings (walloping Sheffield Wednesday 8-0, no less) and imprinted their name upon some of the most memorable matches in football history.
But as with every football club they’ve also fallen victim to the occasional massacre or failed to produce the goods when it really mattered in a big game situation. Contrary to popular belief footballers are fallible beings.
We’ve had our hearts broken, tempers boiled and frustrations set to breaking point on numerous occasions during our black and white pilgrimage and there are moments we’d probably like to forget along the way.
But here are 15 Newcastle matches that you’ve probably obliterated from your memory and will stoke some serious emotion within you. We can only apologise for the this twisted trip down memory lane.

West Ham fans have this season been blowing more raspberries than their traditional bubbles, as their side are sailing far too close to the relegation wind for comfort. Already 15 games into the season, West Ham are only kept out of the danger zone by goal difference, with only 13 points and 13 goals to their name.
As bottom club Sunderland make the trip to Upton Park this weekend, the game is as close to a six-pointer as you are likely to see, with Sunderland’s new manager Gus Poyet looking to build some momentum after two straight home defeats; the Black Cats five points behind West Ham.
Glenn Roeder (despite the best efforts of Trevor Brooking) and Avram Grant are the most recent Hammers bosses to suffer the igmony of the Premier League drop, and Sam Allardyce has much to do to ensure he is not added to that list.

Newcastle United take on Greek side Atromitos in the Europa League Fourth Qualifying Round tonight in the first of a two-legged fair with a place in the group stages at stake.
The game tonight will be United’s first in Europe for over years (and well over five managers!) since Glenn Roeder’s side were knocked out by Dutch outfit Az Alkmaar back in March 2007.
Kick-off at the 10,00 capacity Peristeri Stadium is at 8pm local time (6pm UK time) and the match will be screened live on Premier Sports.
Alan Pardew’s men travelled to Greece without first teamers Demba Ba, Cheick Tiote, Hatem Ben Arfa (who is suspended for Newcastle’s first three European games following a suspension at his days at Marseille) and captain Fabricio Coloccini. Also staying at home through injury or lack of fitness were Shola and Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic and Shane Ferguson, all four...

Breaking news coming in from the Molineux….
Wolverhampton Wanderers have hired Terry Connor as manager until the end of the season.
Connor, who served as assistant manager to axed boss Mick McCarthy has been tasked with the job of keeping Wolves in England’s top division with a tricky thirteen games remaining of the season. The club currently lie 17th in the table, in the relegation zone on goal difference.
Connor has been given the job after the Wolves owners had difficulty finding a replacement for McCarthy elsewhere. As we reported just hours ago, they had offered the job to former Charlton and West Ham boss Alan Curbishley twice, current Reading boss Brian McDermott and also former Everton and Rangers manager Walter Smith but none of them accepted the job. They also interviewed a whole host of other candidates including Steve Bruce (who was so desperate for the job he...
