Last week, the first group of Top 36 singers started strong (Ricky Braddy, Alexis Grace), came crashing down in the middle (Casey Carlson, Stevie Wright) and ended with the official "American Idol" coronation of Danny "The Redeemer" Gokey. Would Wednesday (Feb. 25) night's "American Idol" be more consistent? Would anybody rise to challenge the Gokey Juggernaut? Or would Wednesday's show only be about making fun of Nick "Normund Gentle" Mitchell? Full results after the break... Singer: Jasmine Murray Song: "Love Song" My Take: This is one of those songs that starts low and moves up, so Jasmine doesn't sound completely comfortable...

The first three finalists of "American Idol" season 8 have been picked. In a live result show on February 18, host Ryan Seacrest announced that 24 million votes had been cast the day before and three had gained the most (highest male vote-getter, highest female vote-getter and next highest vote-getter). They are Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver and Danny Gokey.
Alexis sang "Never Loved a Man" by Aretha Franklin and was deemed "the best one so far" by Simon Cowell. Michael, the oil rig guy, gave his rendition of Gavin DeGraw's "I Don't Wanna Be" while Danny who performed the last, delivered "Hero" by Mariah Carey. All three secure a stool in the Top 12 and therefore will be back performing as finalists on Tuesday, March 10.
Subsequently, those not making it to the next round are Ricky Braddy, Jackie Tohn, Anoop Desai, Tatiana Del Toro, Anne Marie Boskovich, Brent Keith, Casey Carlson, Stevie Wright and Stephen Fowler.

And the American Idol Ratings Advantage Goes to…: Casey Carlson, Michael Sarver, and Ann Marie Boskovich, the semifinalists who sang from 9-9:30 p.m., last night's show's most-watched half-hour (26 million, per Nielsen estimates) and its highest-rated among likely female voters age 12-34. Granted, Carlson and Boskovich might have benefited from more limited exposure. Drawing the Short Straws: Bouncy Jackie Tohn, personality-challenged Ricky Braddy and potential frontrunner Alexis Grace, who drew the leadoff 8-8:30 p.m. slot, which per usual was the show's least-watched half-hour (23 million). Bottom Line: Idol, which averaged a night-best 25.1 million from 8-10 p.m., was up a bit from last week...

The first live "American Idol" in season eight has begun and this would be the first live appearance of Kara DioGuardi, who is added as the fourth judge starting this season. Twelve out of 36 contestants who got through take the stage to perform before the judges. The theme is rather broad: any songs that have entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart, no marginal year.
Before the show begins, Paula Abdul gives an advice to the singers who line up on the stairs. She says, "You know what? This is all your dream, right? You gotta hit that center stage and make magic happen in a minute twenty seconds, and if you don't? Look to the right, look to the left, whoever is better, you're gonna go home! It's a tough, tough, kind of a season this year."
First up is Jackie Tohn singing "A Little Less Conversation" by Elvis Presley. She...

"American Idol" had 12 contestants sing tonight and judge Simon Cowell didn't seem blown away with the singers, calling one performance "forgettable." The first performer, Jackie Tohn, sang Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Conversation" but it was her black leggings and high top sneakers that got the most acclaim. Judges Paula Abdul and Kara Dioguardi called her performance "fun!" "Perfect is sometimes boring," Paula told Jackie. Simon was not amused. "I don't think you did yourself any favors … and by the way I don't like the trousers," he said to Jackie. Ricky Braddy performed "A Song For You" by Leon Russell and Kara praised his singing calling it "effortless." Simon, however, said he still doesn't see the "star quality" in Ricky. Alexis Grace performed Aretha Franklin's "I Never Loved a Man" and she was praised by all the judges. Simon called her "the best contestant" so far. "You have self belief,...

Yo, dawgs! Tuesday marks the beginning of the voting rounds on American Idol, with the first of three groups of 12 performers taking the stage. (The first group is Alexis Grace, Brent Keith, Ann Marie Boskovich, Casey Carlson, Danny Gokey, Jackie Tohn, Michael Sarver, Ricky Braddy, Stephen Fowler, Stevie Wright and Tatiana Del Toro.) Unlike in past years, nine of these contestants will be eliminated in one fell swoop on Wednesday evening. This first group has several familiar faces, but what about the many we've haven't heard or seen much of during auditions or Hollywood Week?
Is it fair to lose so many singers based on one performance? Did you like last year's system better? Vote and weigh in after the jump.

This season of "American Idol" has opened a bigger door for the hopefuls, by taking in 36 instead of the usual 24. During the February 11 episode, these 36 people are announced one by one, through a deliberation where contestants must go through a long narrow passage leading to their fate.
First ones that are let in are Anoop Desai and Von Smith. The judges then have a showdown between Cody and Alexander Wagner-Trugman, asking them to perform any song and the latter does it better, consequently included in the next round while the former goes home. Joining Alex is Adam Lambert who has the voice of a Broadway singer.
Doing an Alicia Keys gets 16-year-old Taylor Vaifanua into another round. Next shown being admitted to the top 36 in a flash are Jasmine Murray, Arianna Afsar, Casey Carlson, Megan Corkrey, Mishavonna Henson and Stevie Wright. Joanna Pacitti who has been criticized to be...

The theatrics behind them, the 72 remaining American Idol hopefuls filed in one by one to sing what they hoped would not be their final solos for the discerning ears of Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson. The judges didn't have much to say on Tuesday's episode, probably because the performances—and the lyric flubs, meltdowns and flameouts—sang for themselves. Actually, forgetting the words didn't end up hurting those who had already proved their musical mettle, such as record-label castoff Joanna Pacitti; Stephen Fowler, who even messed up his do-over and just walked off the stage dejectedly; and Casey Carlson, who maybe should have inked the words to "Tattoo"...

The third round of "American Idol" brought more tears and laughters for the contestants as 72 singers performed and some are cut. The Tuesday, February 10 episode witnessed the axing of Jason Castro's baby brother Michael as well as several others including Leneshe Young, India Morrison and Kaylan Loyd.
This round is when the contestants appear before the judges, backed with a full live band. Some of the songs delivered are Plain White T's "Hey There Delilah", Cher's "Believe", Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" and Jordin Sparks' "Tattoo". Leneshe in particular delivered Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" and Kaylan got stopped by Simon mid her song.
Before the deliberation, the contestants are spread into four rooms. Three make it to the next round while one meets the end. Those taking the 'yes' are among others Joanna Paciti, Alexis Grace, Casey Carlson, Kai Kalama, Jasmine Murray, Stephen Fowler,...
