Bernard Fanning has opened up about fatherhood, describing it as "amazing". The Powderfinger frontman, who retired from the Australian group and relocated to Spain with his wife and 22-month-old daughter Gabrielle earlier this year, said that she is like an "earthquake" sometimes. Fanning told the Herald Sun: "We live in an average [neighbourhood]. And I'm lucky. I don't have to go to work. I'm writing at home. But at the same time I have a 2-year-old daughter, so most of my time is dedicated to helping control that earthquake.
"She is, like I imagine all children are, a pleasure the majority of the time, then, at other times, extraordinarily trying. It's amazing to see what sponges they are for information. She's speaking Spanish. She understands English, but doesn't speak it yet." Fanning (more)...

Powderfinger's frontman Bernard Fanning has revealed why the band split last year. The Australian musician, who now lives in Spain with wife Andrea Portela Moreno and 22-month-old daughter Gabriella, said that he wanted "independence" from the group and was growing tired of the "juvenile" fights they used to have. In Powderfinger's unreleased tell-all book Footprints, guitarist Ian Haug said that he wanted to "go on an indefinite hiatus" rather than split, calling the retirement announcement a "public spectacle". Drummer Jon Coghill said that he felt "exhausted" by the time the band went their separate ways because he found it hard to work with someone who "doesn't want to be there" anymore. It is believed that Coghill and Haig thought Fanning wanted to finish with Powderfinger (more)...
