The past few weeks have been great for music. With new releases from Ariana Grande, Beyoncé and more, the charts truly feel like they are alive again. Among these big releases, one of the most buzzed about has been the alliance between hip-hop superstar producer Metro Boomin and veteran rapper Future on their album “We Don’t Trust You.” It has been a huge success, debuting atop the Billboard 200 with over 250,000 equivalent album units and multiple songs in the top 10 of that week’s Billboard Hot 100, most notably the single “Like That” with Kendrick Lamar at number-one. Future and Metro’s success might translate to some Grammy prizes in 2025 too.

Exclusive: Writer-director Courtney J. Camerota has wrapped production on her first feature, Dead Guy, a dark comedy shot under an Interim Agreement that will be introduced to buyers at AFM by CAA Media Finance. Among those in the starry cast are two-time Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (The Bikeriders), Golden Globe nominee Eva Longoria (Sylvie’s Love), Judy Greer (White House Plumbers), Luis Guzman (Story Ave), Amaury Nolasco (The Valet), Rory Culkin (Black Mirror), Curtis Armstrong (New Girl), Ashley Reyes (Walker), and Richard Ellis (Walker).
Dead Guy‘s plot is set into motion when an abrasive old man suddenly dies in the apartment of a neighbor. An absurd game of hot potato then begins with the not-so-dearly departed, as neighbors and building workers each pass the body along, in the hopes of not being linked to the old man’s demise.
Marking the launch of Shft, the new production company of Zac Adams, Dead Guy is also produced by Ryan Lewis of Ryan J. Lewis, Esq, as well as Chadd Harbold of Post Film. Jack Christian of Filmology served as a producer and financier. Exec producers included D.J. McPherson of Filmology, Jared Safier and Justin Safier of Safier Entertainment, Russ Posternak of Post Film, and Nathan Marcus.
Said Camerota, “I wrote this script years ago and to finally see it come to life is a dream come true. The opportunity to work with such an incredible cast, crew and producing team for my directorial debut has been an absolute honor. I can’t wait for the world to see Dead Guy.”
Producer Zac Adams stated that “as both a filmmaker and movie lover, the main goal is to always create films that are not only of the highest quality, but films that are enjoyable. With the world being as dark as it’s been the past few years, I hope our film helps spread some much needed light. It was an absolute honor and privilege in helping Courtney’s vision come to life.”
Added producer Ryan Lewis, “When I read this script I knew this movie had to be made. I’m thrilled that I got to help make it, and got to do so with both a friend and client in Courtney. Our incredible cast is a testament to Courtney’s writing and I’m overjoyed to see her vision come to life on the big screen.”
Shannon is repped by CAA, Range, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes; Longoria by WME, Linden Entertainment, and Yorn, Levine, Barnes; Greer by CAA, Artists First, and Felker Toczek Suddleson; Guzman by Gersh and Gravesend Entertainment; Nolasco by Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Goodman, Genow, Schenkman; Culkin by Paradigm and Brookside Artist Management; Armstrong by Cesd; and Reyes by Stewart Talent and Mosaic.

In today's news of slightly unnecessary projects, Netflix is reviving its hit original film "Bird Box" with a sequel-extension film called "Bird Box Barcelona." You read that right, we're getting another "Bird Box" film, but seemingly one that is simply adjacent to, and not a continuation of, the events of the original. Interesting.
Netflix debuted a one-minute teaser trailer for the new film — which was announced back in March 2021 — and it gives us a glimpse into a similar event as the 2018 film, only in Europe this time. There is chaos in major cities, and folks turn to obscuring their sight in the outside world in order to obtain shelter. Again, it's very much a global repositioning of the events of the first film, however, it does seem like this new story will have some of its own twists and turns.

Netflix is diving back into the post-apocalyptic world of 2018’s Bird Box with the spinoff Bird Box Barcelona. This new installment takes place in the titular city and follows different characters within the same universe as the original film. Fans can expect a similar setup but with unique storylines and perspectives.
Bird Box followed Oscar winner Sandra Bullock’s character as she struggled to keep her family safe in a world gone mad. Goya award winner Mario Casas (No matarás) takes on the starring role in the spinoff. The cast includes Georgina Campbell, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Diego Calva, and Patrick Criado. In addition, Lola Dueñas, Gonzalo De Castro, Michelle Jenner, and Leonardo Sbaraglia also star.
Álex Pastor and David Pastor wrote the screenplay and co-directed. The post-apocalyptic thriller was produced by Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, Núria Valls, Adrián Guerra, Josh Malerman and Ryan Lewis. Ainsley Davies and Brian Williams served as executive producers.

Back at the end of 2018, Netflix had a huge hit with their apocalyptic horror thriller Bird Box, based on a novel by Josh Malerman (pick up a copy Here). While Malerman has written a Bird Box sequel called Malorie (buy that one Here), Netflix has been focusing on the idea of producing Bird Box spin-offs that will be set in various locations around the globe. First up is a spin-off that’s set in Spain and was written and directed by Alex and David Pastor. While we’ve previously heard that this spin-off was going by the title A Ciegas, which happens to have been the Spanish title used for the first Bird Box, Netflix has now announced that the film is officially titled Bird Box Barcelona – and it will be available to watch on the streaming service as of July 14th!

Olivia Rodrigo, Megan Thee Stallion, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa all have one thing in common: they’re winners of the Grammy for Best New Artist. In most of those cases their wins were fairly predictable, feeling like the culmination of a massive year rather than the start of a new era for the artists. This is true for many — dare I say, most — Best New Artist winners of the past decade or so. Chance the Rapper, Sam Smith, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis all coasted easily to their wins, and even the less obvious picks like Bon Iver and Alessia Cara were still predicted by many Grammy watchers. Perhaps the last truly shocking Best New Artist was Esperanza Spalding, who took the award in 2011. And now, 12 years later, we might be in for a similar event.

The Grammy for Best New Artist has been the subject of criticism many times. Some years the winner seems too shallow, based on popularity more than artistic merit, like when Macklemore and Ryan Lewis beat the likes of Kendrick Lamar, James Blake, and future general field winners Ed Sheeran and Kacey Musgraves. Other years it seems like the Grammys are oblivious to success and just go for the most “Grammy-friendly” act in the lineup, which usually means avoiding hip-hop and Edm like when Bon Iver beat J. Cole, Nicki Minaj, and Skrillex. Perhaps the biggest Best New Artist upset was shocking by many standards. Let’s talk about Esperanza Spalding.
Spalding won the coveted Best New Artist prize at the 53rd Grammy Awards exactly 10 years ago. She was no stranger to praise; she got a scholarship to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music and received praise from Barack Obama...

The Grammy for Song of the Year is strictly an award for songwriters, as opposed to Record of the Year, which is for a recording as a whole and goes to the artist, producers, and engineers. There’s usually significant overlap between the two categories, but big hits with relatively lightweight subject matter tend not to get writing plaudits. Thousands of Gold Derby users have been predicting this year’s nominations here in our predictions center. Those forecasts have been combined to generate our official racetrack odds. Here’s who they think will make the cut for Song of the Year.

Rose McGowan plays new character Josie Acosta, a suburban mom and experienced hunter Josie Acosta the third season of Sony-owned Crackle‘s original series Chosen. “I do like to kill people,” McGowan said of her attraction to the role — enough to bring her back to series TV. “I specialize in somebody who doesn’t f*** around,” she said, calling that the overarching curve of her career. “These guys have created that kind of role for me. I’ve shied away from television for a long time.” McGowan said when she got the script she did not know what Crackle was “because I watch the classic movie channel.” But when she saw the series her response was, “this is bad-ass. What I love is action and smart action, and they don’t always go hand-in-hand. It’s smart, not just grunting and pointing (a gun). It’s cerebral — and then I get to kill people.

Ryan Lewis is one of the co-creators and producers of "Chosen," an original series starring Milo Ventimiglia that airs exclusively in the U.S. on the streaming site Crackle. The show, which is written and directed by Ben Ketai, is a rarity in the digital space outside of Netflix, where comedy and short form still rule the day. "Chosen" is an action series made up of six half-hour episodes that take place at a breakneck pace, with Ventimiglia's character plunged into a mysterious kill-or-be-killed game. Its ambitious leanness recalls the world of indie film more than it does traditional television, which makes sense -- Ketai wrote the screenplay for "Red White & Blue" director Simon Rumley's upcoming feature "The Last Word," and Lewis was a producer on "High School" and "Fat Kid Rules the World." Ray Richmond contributes to Deadline’s TCA coverage. During a morning producers panel at TCA that focused on the brave new world of web television, a handful of pros held court to talk about all of the ways the Internet is changing the content game and taking the programming monopoly away from the living room. The five included Jane Espenson and Jeff Greenstein, producers of the Internet sensation Husbands (along with many network series); Mike Rosenstein and Stuart Cornfeld, exec producers of the web reality dating spoof Burning Love; and Ryan Lewis, exec producer of the web series Chosen. The beauty of fledgling form, all agreed, was how freeing the medium is in releasing writers and producers from the tyranny of their network overlords. “We are answerable only to ourselves,” boasted Greenstein, whose credits include Desperate Housewives, Friends and Will & Grace. “Yet we hold ourselves to the same standard as...

Another day, another domination for Taylor Swift: She was the red hot winner at the Billboard Music Awards.
Swift won eight of 11 awards, including top artist and top Billboard 200 album for "Red." She told the crowd: "You are the longest and best relationship I ever had."
She also had a colorful performance of her hit "22" – starting backstage and working her way to the main stage on the back of a bike with help from a dozen background dancers and a flurry of red balloons.
Justin Bieber also performed – twice – and was also a multiple winner with three awards, including top male artist, social artist and the fan-voted milestone award, beating out Swift and Bruno Mars. When accepting the latter – where boos were heard – he alluded to the tumultuous weeks he's had in the public eye.

Going into the Billboard Music Awards, we know three things for sure, right? 1. Taylor Swift is going to be adorkable. (And you are going to hate that. You always do.) 2. At least half a dozen times, I’m going to have to ask Google to identify an act that, because I’m a nerd who’s well past puberty, I’ve never heard of. (How am I supposed to tell Macklemore from Ryan Lewis when I still struggle with telling Hall from Oates?) And 3. the whole massive recording industry back-slap will be followed by a TVLine Top 10 countdown of the ceremony’s best and worst.

Netflix has "House of Cards" and "Hemlock Grove," Hulu has Richard Linklater's "Up to Speed" and the upcoming Seth Meyers animated series "The Awesomes," and Amazon just added a potential "Zombieland" series to its greenlit pilot slate. And though smaller in scale and in attention paid, Crackle has its own original series too -- "Chosen," a scripted thriller of which the company has just ordered a second season. "Chosen" stars Milo Ventimiglia and is the creation of Ben Ketai ("30 Days of Night: Dark Days") and Ryan Lewis (co-producer of "Fat Kid Rules the World"), with Ketai also writing and directing the series. The first season, which premiered in full on Crackle on January 17 of this year and will be available until mid May, was made up of six half-hour episodes, and had Ventimiglia playing Ian Mitchell, a divorced defense lawyer and father of a little girl who discovers a...

Heroes alum Milo Ventimiglia plays an antihero in the new Crackle series Chosen.
The show follows Ian Mitchell (Ventimiglia), a lawyer who wakes up one day to find a mysterious box on his doorstep containing a loaded gun, a photo of a stranger he’s instructed to kill, and a ticking timer set to three days. Oh, and a shooter waiting across the street to kill him if he doesn’t meet their demands. In the exclusive extended trailer, the family man tries to resist “playing the game” until his wife is dragged into the mess and his young daughter is kidnapped.
