Over the past couple of decades, the Rolling Stones have looked for any reason to hit the road besides the release of a new album of original songs. They’ve launched tours celebrating their 50th anniversary, reissues of select archival records, the 2016 covers LP Blue & Lonesome, and their 60th anniversary. Some years they headed out on the stadium circuit for no particular reason whatsoever, knowing a Stones tour is a major event in and of itself.
But after a nearly two-year break from touring, the Stones emerged last year with the shockingly great Hackney Diamonds.

The crowd of celebrities, music industry insiders, and media folks that crammed into the New York City club Racket on Thursday evening had every reason to believe they were there to witness a Rolling Stones concert, but it was impossible to be sure at first. The invitation billed the event merely an “album release party” timed to the release of Hackney Diamonds. We were told all phones and smart watches would be placed in pouches, and “armed guards” and “personal security” wouldn’t be allowed in. “Dress cool,” read the invite.

When Chanel Haynes showed up at Milan’s San Siro Stadium to sing “Gimme Shelter” with the Rolling Stones on June 21, she had a lot on her mind: She had spent the past few months in London portraying Tina Turner in the West End production of Tina, and there was a show that night. But this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity — alongside a good chance to cede the stage to her understudy — even though it would eventually cost her her day job. On the last-minute flight to Italy, she played several different renditions of “Gimme Shelter,...

The Rolling Stones resumed their 60th anniversary tour in Milan, Italy Tuesday night after being forced to postpone two gigs last week when Mick Jagger came down with Covid, but they took the stage without backup singer Sasha Allen. In her place was Chanel Haynes, a veteran gospel singer that recently portrayed Tina Turner in the UK production of Tina – The Tina Turner Musical.

Girl Named Tom has already made “The Voice” history after becoming the first trio to reach a finale in 21 seasons of NBC’s reality TV singing competition. The group of siblings on Team Kelly Clarkson comprised of Bekah, Caleb and Joshua Liechty currently resides in South Bend, Indiana. A win on Tuesday’s live finale would make them the first non-solo act to ever claim victory on “The Voice.”
Standing in their path to victory are three powerhouse vocalists and one of their own teammates. Team Blake Shelton has two shots at winning their coach his ninth title with genre-crossing diva Wendy Moten and R&b soul singer Paris Winningham. Team John Legend is represented by gospel artist Jershika Maple while Team Kelly’s teen pop singer Hailey Mia joins Girl Named Tom in the live finale. Ariana Grande failed to coach any artist to the finale in her rookie season.

Finale week on “The Voice” Season 21 began on Monday night, with three coaches still in contention to win the title. Team Blake Shelton (Paris Winningham and Wendy Moten) and Team Kelly Clarkson (Girl Named Tom and Hailey Mia) were both represented by two artists apiece, while Team John Legend (Jershika Maple) rounded out the Final 5. Each artist took the stage twice on Monday night to vie for America’s votes — one uptempo song and one ballad. So who excelled and who faltered in their last performances?

The top five artists are set to take the stage Monday night in “The Voice” season 21 performance finale, but only one of them will win their coach another trophy when America’s decision is revealed on Tuesday, December 14. Ariana Grande was knocked out of contention in her first season when her final artist, Jim and Sasha Allen, were eliminated last Tuesday. That means either Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton or John Legend will add a win to their cumulative total instead.
Kelly and Blake’s artists split the public vote in the semi-final round and bring two artists apiece to the finale. Team Kelly is represented by folk trio Girl Named Tom and the youngest artist of the season, pop singer Hailey Mia, who she stole from Ariana in the battles. Team Blake is represented by two genre-defying artists, Wendy Moten and Paris Winningham, who he stole from John in the knockouts.

Season 21 of The Voice has been a roller-coaster ride for viewers. Excellent singers like Team John Legend’s Samuel Harness have been eliminated. Dubious ones like Team Ariana Grande’s Jim and Sasha Allen have gotten further than arguably they should’ve. And somehow Team Legend’s superlative Jershika Maple was forced to sing for the Wildcard Instant Save during Tuesday’s Semi-Finals Results Show.
At least she did, in fact, win the Instant Save.

Is the years-long “The Voice” instant save curse about to be broken? If John Legend‘s gospel singer Jershika Maple ends up winning Season 21 during the December 14 finale, she’ll make history as the first artist to prevail who was previously saved by social media users. Since the creation of the instant save twist in Season 6, none of its recipients have ever gone on to win “The Voice.” Britton Buchanan (Season 14) and Toneisha Harris (Season 18) came closest by each placing second behind their winners, but all of the other times the saved artist finished near the bottom of their respective finales.

“Wendy’s okay,” revealed “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton on social media just moments after Wendy Moten tripped and fell on live TV during the November 23 episode. “Don’t worry, anybody. Hurt her elbow a little bit. I think she’s gonna be fine.” Wendy had just finished singing a group performance of “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)” with Blake and teammates Lana Scott and Paris Winningham and was walking off-stage when she missed a step and took a tumble. Thankfully, fans have no reason to be alarmed. Watch Blake’s video announcement below.

Every road has an end, and ahead of Tuesday’s episode of The Voice, it looked like Team Ariana Grande’s Jim and Sasha Allen were about to cross the finish line of the one that they were walking toward the finals. Not only did the father/son duo receive Monday’s lowest grade (read the recap in full here), but you voted their rendition of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” the night’s least impressive.

New coach Ariana Grande has had a tough time with the whole “elimination” aspect of “The Voice” this season. Every time she’s lost a team member, whether it be Bella DeNapoli, Vaughn Mugol or Raquel Trinidad, she’s broken down in tears. Back in the blind auditions, Shadale was the very last artist to join Team John Legend thanks to her powerful performance of “That’s What I Like.” John kept Shadale in the competition in every subsequent round, where she sang “One Last Time” in the battles, “Impossible” in the knockouts and “Love on the Brain” in the live playoffs. First things first: a big thank-you, Voice-cap readers, for the spirited debate that followed Monday’s post.

But in a nutshell, I admitted that while I wholeheartedly admired Wendy Moten’s technical excellence, I didn’t necessary sense a lot of connection between her and the songs that she sings. ‘The Voice’ winner predictions: Wendy Moten early favorite to win Blake Shelton his 9th championship
The competition is heating up on “The Voice” as the Top 13 contestants head into Monday’s live performances with the goal of earning a spot in the Top 11. Wendy Moten is out front early in our “The Voice” winner predictions with 13/5 odds of earning coach Blake Shelton his ninth championship. The seasoned diva is followed by Girl Named Tom from Team Kelly Clarkson (82/25 odds), Jim and Sasha Allen from Team Ariana Grande (5/1 odds) and Jershika Maple from Team John Legend (13/2 odds).
Wendy closed out the Live Playoffs with a powerful rendition of Whitney Houston‘s classic hit penned by Dolly Parton, “I Will Always Love You.” Her performance earned thunderous applause before Kelly remarked it would be “insane” if Wendy fails to reach the finale. Blake gave an even bigger endorsement, stating that in his 21 seasons as a coach, there is nobody he’s wanted this more for than Wendy.

With Monday’s episode, Season 21 of The Voice went live, teeing up make-or-break performances by the Top 20 — though I expected a Top 21, to be honest. After last week’s reveal that viewers could vote for a coach-picked contestant to return to the competition — either Team Ariana Grande’s Vaughn Mugol, Team Blake Shelton’s Hailey Green, Team Kelly Clarkson’s Aaron Hines or Team John Legend’s Samara Brown — I thought extra space would be made for a comeback kid. Not yet, apparently. (Tuesday, during the Wild Card Instant Save.) Keep reading, though, and we’ll discuss all of Monday’s performances.
