RuPaul's Drag Race is already shaking things up for 2021. (And it's only the first day of the year!)
During RuPaul's Drag Race Season 13 Episode 1, we expected some competition and fierceness as a cast of new queens entered for their chance to be America's Next Drag Superstar. But, to throw them into the fire with lip-syncs right out the gate, Mama Ru and company weren't playing around this time.
The competition kicked up fast, and it started the festivities on a high note.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of the lip-sync battles, the entrance outfits are a category unto themselves. The ensembles shed some light on the queens' style, their decision-making, and what they could bring to the table.
The standouts from the entrance looks include Kandy Muse, Denali, Symone, Gottmik, Olivia Lux, Rosé, Tina Burner, and Elliott with 2 Ts.
Each of these outfits was well-constructed, showcased positive features for each of the queens,...

RuPaul’s Drag Race followed all sorts of new safety protocols with its Season 13 premiere: not only did the judges remain six feet apart from one another, but Mama Ru socially distanced herself from more than half of the cast. Or did she?

But before move on to the second game-changing twist of the night, let’s see how everyone fared on the main stage:

Among the baker’s dozen is the usual gaggle of girls from New York City that boast a handful of connections to former contestants. Kandy Muse‘s drag mother is season 9’s Aja and she’s a sister to season 12’s Dahlia Sin while Rosé is in a girl group (Stephanie’s Child) with season 12’s Jan. Then there’s Olivia Lux who is admittedly gobsmacked to be competing among the other three “legends” from NYC,...

When it comes to RuPaul's Drag Race a few things are certain: a queen will miserably fail a sewing challenge, someone's "Snatch Game" will fall flat, and there'll be several GIFable moments we won't be able to pass up. What's also true is that no matter how well the queens get along, season 13 is certain to be full of drama thanks in part to the shocking twist that they will have to lip-sync for their lives upon arrival - you know, in addition to all the other tricks and twists host RuPaul is bound to throw at them. Ahead of the Jan. 1 premiere, we chatted with Kandy Muse, Denali, Gottmik, Elliott With 2 Ts, Tina Burner, Kahmora Hall, Olivia Lux, Tamisha Iman, Rosé, Symone, Joey Jay, Lala Ri, and Utica Queen, and they all shared similar sentiments about what it was like walking into the Werk Room for the first time.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” fans won’t have to wait until New Year’s Day for the Season 13 premiere. The first act just dropped online, introducing the first two contestants and the season’s big twist: six head-to-head lipsyncs right off the bat.
Normally in a premiere episode, all the queens come together and are greeted by host and head judge RuPaul. For Season 13, a pair of queens is immediately whisked off to the main stage to lipsync for their life or risk getting the “pork chop” — a reference to Victoria “Pork Chop” Parker, the very first queen eliminated back in Season 1.
The clip shows Kandy Muse and Joey Jay hitting the stage and performing Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit “Call Me Maybe” in front of judges RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Ross Matthews and Carson Kressley. The judges’ table has been modified this season, with the seats now further apart and plexiglass barriers in between each judge.
