Accused by
Hugh Hefner of murder in the wake of the suicide of Hefner's executive secretary,
Bobbie Arnstein, claiming that Thompson manufactured charges against Arnstein in a calculated effort to get to him. Arnstein was arrested in March 1974 by federal narcotics agents, and charged with conspiring to transport cocaine from Miami to Chicago; she denied the charges. The investigation was dropped in December 1975 after the two men arrested with Arnstein refused immunity deals to testify against Hefner.
