Big spoilers for the season 3 finale of "Ted Lasso" to follow.
From the beginning, "Ted Lasso" gave us a great blend of sports drama, an underdog narrative, and an absurd fish-out-of-water story of an American football coach teaching actual football, despite not even knowing what an off-side is. This worked wonderfully, combining British and American sensibilities, and mining great comedy and drama out of the cultural clash between the two.
Though the show was never really about football — instead about the self-betterment of the team and its coach — there were still great moments of sports bliss throughout. We had excellent football plays like Richmond being promoted to the Premier League, Dani Rojas scoring a goal after a devastating mistake in season 2, Zava's incredibly over-the-top plays, or Jamie Tartt's extraordinary tiki-taka passes against Manchester City.
Seasons 1 and 2 had a very clear and sensible goal: to avoid relegation and then to be...

"Ted Lasso" mastered the pop culture reference. Unlike many shows, which immediately date themselves by referencing recent pop culture landmarks and feel forced when they do so, "Ted Lasso" found a way to naturally insert references in its dialogue, and into its scripts.
The characters love to talk about what they like, and more importantly, they get very excited when that love is shared by others. Despite the problems in season three — its double-sized episode lengths and unfocused story — the season gave us several all-time great "Ted Lasso" moments and storylines, like Colin's coming out speech, or the fact that Jamie Tartt and Roy Kent became the best parts of the show. Whether this is actually the end or we get to see more of AFC Richmond, this show has been a true gift.

"Ted Lasso" is many things: a show about mental health, community and self-improvement, a comedy about culture shock, and a thrilling sports drama about the joys and heartbreaks of association football. When it comes to this last part, the Apple TV+ series is in kind of a weird place. You see, AFC Richmond is a fictional team, but it competes against real teams. For the most part, "Ted Lasso" stays in its own little bubble, in part because the show has its own analogs to real-life players — like Dani Rojas being heavily inspired by Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, or Jamie Tartt serving as a sort of Ronaldo stand-in, or Zlatan being a clear inspiration for Zava.
This isn't to say "Ted Lasso" is entirely disconnected from the real world. The show has plenty of references to real athletes, and there have been some stellar cameos from actual football players and pundits,...

"Ted Lasso" took the world by storm and had us glued to our screens watching men run around after a ball, all while putting Apple TV+ on the map. Though the show sold itself as a comedy about cultural shock and the difference between real football and American football, it quickly became about more. "Ted Lasso" is also a phenomenal show about mental health, community, and self-betterment, in addition to an often hilarious comedy and a thrilling story about the beautiful game.
Season 3 of "Ted Lasso," however, has been a mixed bag. The episodes are twice as long but half as compelling or thematically deep, focusing too much on a poorly-handled redemption arc. Moreover, the football side of things has taken a backseat, and not always for the better. Granted, football is not the most cinematic game out there — which is why the best football anime deal with either superpowers...

Apple TV+ comedy series “Ted Lasso” returns for Season 3 on March 15, nearly two years after the last new episode aired. So you’d be forgiven for needing a bit of a recap before settling in for the new episodes. Since the Emmy-winning show’s debut in August 2020 during the dark days of Covid, romantic relationships have faded and sparked, new players have brought their finesse to AFC Richmond and the coaching staff has seen some shake ups.
Coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) has seen the Greyhounds through two seasons now, one in the Premier League back when Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham) tried to do everything she could to sabotage the club, and one relegated to the lower tier bracket, where they worked back up to their Premier League slot in Season 2.
By the end of the “Ted Lasso” Season 2, several developments occurred off the field. Rebecca’s father died, and the...

There’s cheering and laughing, backed by The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” for the first minute and 20ish seconds. "Ted Lasso" was one of the biggest hits of the early pandemic, a show that helped us all during a very dark time with its relentless optimism and focus on kindness. It became a hit for Apple TV+ and helped make the platform a strong contender in the streaming wars with its tale of a fictional association football team. Even if you have never watched a single football match, "Ted Lasso does a great job of explaining the sport and its rules (as dumb as theymay seem). More importantly, the show makes it a point to highlight why it is that people around the world love this sport so much and what makes it special.
It makes sense, then, that just as Richmond AFC managed to score a promotion to the Premier League in the world of the show, they would also join the big leagues in the video game world.

Saturday night at the Maybourne Beverly Hills Hotel, Apple TV Plus hosted a fun tailgate party for its crowning jewel comedy series “Ted Lasso” in celebration of its 20 Emmy nominations. Several nominees attended the all-guild FYC event, including supporting actors Brett Goldstein, Nick Mohammed and Toheeb Jimoh, supporting actress Sarah Niles, guest stars Sam Richardson and James Lance, and director M.J. The feel-good series centers around Jason Sudeikis as the titular Kansas football coach who’s hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite knowing nothing about soccer. At last year’s Emmys, “Ted Lasso” took home seven awards including series, actor (Sudeikis), supporting actress (Hannah Waddingham), supporting actor (Goldstein), casting, picture editing and sound mixing.

Rojas, who joins Coach Ted Lasso’s (Jason Sudeikis) AFC Richmond team halfway through Season 1 when Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) starts acting up, runs enthusiastically onto the pitch one training day to demonstrate his skill and qualifications for replacing Jamie in the ace position.

Can you Believe that season 3 of Ted Lasso is right around the corner? Apple TV+’s feel-good, fish-out-of-water sports comedy that inexplicably began life as a series of commercials for NBC Sports has become maybe the most beloved new show of the 2020s. Jason Sudeikis’ mustached titular character is a beaming light of optimism and a balm in increasingly depressing times.
Season 2 found the overmatched football coach struggling with his mental health and unresolved trauma from his youth while the AFC Richmond squad battled to get promoted back into the Premier League. The season ended with Richmond successfully ascending to the top flight of English football, but in the process, the team lost “wonder kid” coach Nate (Nick Mohammed), who after feeling neglected by Ted all season defected to West Ham United, now owned by Rupert Mannion, the ex-husband of Hannah Waddingham’s delightful Rebecca Welton.

Spoiler Alert: This post includes spoilers from the Season 2 finale of Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso.
Ted Lasso wrapped up Season 2 with an explosive episode that tied up many loose ends for nearly every character—but it also set up new adventures ahead for Season 3.
Toheeb Jimoh’s Sam Obisanya experienced major personal growth across his arc in Season 2, which saw him form a romantic attachment to AFC Richmond boss Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and stand up for himself when bully Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) returned to the team.
“Sam’s grown so much from the first season where he’s just come from Nigeria when he’s missing home and not really sure about where he fits in,” Toheeb tells Deadline. “Then he meets Ted [Jason Sudeikis] and he offers all this positive reinforcement which leads him to the second season and Jamie and Roy [Brett Goldstein] are gone.

Ok, Ted Lasso fans, show of hands: is there anyone who doesn't kind of hate Nate Shelley right now?
After a season of slowly becoming more and more unlikable, Nate finally crosses the line in the final two episodes of season two, outing Ted's panic attacks to the press and then doubling down on his cruelty when confronted about it by Ted. Nate's big betrayal packed a major emotional punch, but it was, unusually for today's TV world, a very predictable turn of events. All season long, we've been waiting for him to finally snap and do something awful, and in a way, the predictability made the arc work even better than it could have if it had been a twist.
One of the things that sets Ted Lasso apart is that, for the most part, its characters behave in relatable, familiar ways that feel realistic and human. It deprioritizes...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Ted Lasso” Season 2, Episode 12, “Inverting the Pyramid of Success.”]
After all those ties to start the season, it took one more for Richmond AFC to make its way back into the Premier League. Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández) made up for the opening episode’s mascot manslaughter by kicking the game-tying goal in the finale; Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), whose selfish tendencies left him off the pitch to start the season, learned when to turn on the star power and when to step aside for the right reasons; even the team they tied in the Season 2 finale, Brentford Fc, was the same one that mocked their winless streak in the premiere by sending over a giant order of Thai food.
Callbacks aside, Season 2 ultimately felt like the very thing non-soccer-loving Americans have trouble wrapping their heads around (including Ted): a winning tie. What makes it a tie is both obvious and complicated.

Friday’s Ted Lasso finale warms our hearts thenstomps on them. Because almost as soon as AFC Richmond is promoted to the Premier league, their assistant coach goes and betrays the team. (To read our post mortem with Nick Mohammed, click here.)
The episode picks up the morning after Trent’s story is published online. Ted finishes his single piece of breakfast cereal (a callback to Season 1, Episode 2), then leaves his flat to find that his recent struggles with anxiety are now front page fodder. He arrives at Nelson Road and makes a beeline for Rebecca’s office, where the...

Ted Lasso’s second season began with a penalty kick, as Dani Rojas looked to give AFC Richmond its first win of the season and ended up ending Earl the greyhound’s life. And so it’s fitting that Richmond’s season comes down to another penalty kick in “Inverting The Pyramid Of Success,” and that Jamie—even though he…...
