Singer-songwriter Suzie Ungerleider -- known to many as Oh Susanna -- revealed this week plans for her new album "Namedropper" have been delayed after being recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
In a Facebook post on her site, Ungerleider said she noticed a lump in her breast a few months ago, "went to see some doctors, they took some tissue samples and came back with a positive result for breast cancer."
If there's any positive from the diagnosis it's the fact "all scans have indicated that the cancer has not spread deeper into my body."
Ungerleider also revealed she began chemotherapy roughly a week ago, describing it as if "I have drunk some kind of metallic cocktail and now I am suffering from a chemical hangover." The chemotherapy is expected to be in three-week intervals for around five months before she undergoes surgery with radiation to follow.

When news broke early this morning that East Coast singer Rita MacNeil had died at age 68, tributes came pouring in from far and wide.
And while kind words from rockers like Joel Plaskett and the drunken rascals in the "Trailer Park Boys" may have outwardly seemed peculiar considering MacNeil was a pleasant country/folk from an entirely different generation, what people don't realize is that she helped out many, many musicians and artists over the years.
MacNeil's variety show "Rita And Friends" ran on CBC from 1994-1997 and showcased a diverse range of musical acts.
We tracked down a number of videos from the show featuring the likes of Blue Rodeo, Rusty, Sloan and Ashley MacIsaac and threw in some videos of her notable duets with the likes of Barenaked Ladies and Bruce Cockburn as well as an East Coast Music Awards tribute for good measure.

Yesterday's day-long tribute concert in Halifax for Jay Smith, the late guitarist best known for his work with Matt Mays, raised over $100,000 for his family.
"$100,000 raised, 10,000 live stream viewers, 1,200 people attending and rock royalty performing for #jaysmith and his family," Halifax Pop Explosion organizers tweeted this morning regarding the event at Casino Nova Scotia. "Thank You."
The concert — still online for viewing — concluded with a rousing, heartfelt headlining set by Mays starting with "Stand Down At Sundown" and concluding with "City of Lakes." "Well it's pretty tough for us to come on stage tonight because of how much everybody smoked it tonight," Mays said of the earlier acts, adding the band was "all pretty overwhelmed" by the performances and outpouring of support. The singer also posted a photo of himself and Smith together on his Twitter account last night.
Joel Plaskett Emergency, the Meds, the Stanfields and In-Flight Safety performed earlier in the evening.

My column for this month is a special edition in honour of the upcoming Canadian Music Week: a five-day festival showcasing great Canadian music acts as well as conferences, lectures, award shows and films. It’s going to be a wild ride, and I want to show you which events will make you lean forward, flail your arms and smile.
Cmw runs March 10-14, with events during the days and concerts/films in the evenings.
Canadian Music Week (and Fest – the music portion) require that you purchase passes to attend events (obviously). You can purchase weekly or daily passes. For more information, go here. However, if you want to go to just one concert, tickets can be purchased here.
This is the second part in a trio of articles in preparation for Cmw. Today, I’ll point out a number of bands that are more than worth just checking out.
