The best of Broadway and Off-Broadway were honored at the 2025 Drama League Awards and Nicole Scherzinger took home the most coveted acting award of the year!

The event took place on Friday afternoon (May 16) at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City.

While the Tony Awards gives out eight acting awards each year to recognize the best in both plays and musicals with gendered categories for leading and supporting performances, the Drama League Awards only gives out one acting award each year. The Distinguished Performance Award has dozens of nominees and combines all performances into one category, making it incredibly difficult to ever win the award. Once you win once, you can never win again, so some actors receive honorary notices when they return to Broadway.

Nicole won the this year’s Distinguished Performance Award for her work in the musical Sunset Blvd.

With his first Tony nomination under his belt, Sunset Blvd. star Tom Francis visited The View to discuss the production, working with his co-star Nicole Scherzinger, and more. "I feel like I haven't processed it yet," the actor told Alyssa Farah Griffin of all of the success surrounding the show. Nicole Scherzinger has turned her career around thanks to her role in Sunset Blvd on Broadway and she’s opening up about how she made it happen for herself.

The 46-year-old entertainer, pictured here at the Tony Awards Nominees Press Event on Thursday (May 8) in New York City, shared her journey with a fan in a video captured at the stage door of her Broadway show.

In a video that is going viral on TikTok, Nicole gave advice to a fan who asked how to make it in the entertainment industry.

Tom Francis first discovered his talents while listening to Oasis. The British-born actor, who is currently starring (alongside Nicole Scherzinger) in the Broadway run of Sunset Blvd., was seven years old. The album was Don’t Believe the Truth. “I became absolutely obsessed with the band, and there’s a song that closes the album called ‘Let There Be Love,’ and I remember sitting down with my guitar and figuring out how to play and sing it,” he explains to The Hollywood Reporter. Francis’ parents happened to be eavesdropping. “I got so embarrassed, and shouted at them like, ‘Don’t ever do that to me again,'” he laughs. “I didn’t want any to watch me sing, ever. But then that night at dinner, my dad told me, ‘I think you’re really very good.’ And I took that on.”

Scherzinger scored her first Tony nomination last week for playing Norma Desmond, a former film star who enlists Joe Gillis (played by Tom Francis) to help with her planned comeback, in director Jamie Lloyd’s reinvention of the musical and film Sunset Boulevard, with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s music.

The show, titled Sunset Blvd. in this iteration, is also her Broadway debut, and she’s nominated alongside 11-time Tony nominee Audra McDonald (Gypsy), Megan Hilty (Death Becomes Her), Jasmine Amy Rogers (Boop! The Musical) and Jennifer Simard (Death Becomes Her). Scherzinger tells The Hollywood Reporter she feels like she is “with the greats.”

Nominations for the 69th annual Drama Desk Awards were announced Wednesday by Tony- and Grammy-nominated actor Norm Lewis. Winners will be announced on June 1, at a ceremony taking place at NYU Skirball and hosted by Debra Messing and Tituss Burgess.

The Drama Desk Awards are unique in the landscape of New York theater, as they are the only place where Broadway, off-Broadway, and off-off Broadway compete within the same categories. The bullhorn used by Sunset Blvd. star Nicole Scherzinger last week when a matinee performance of the Broadway musical was canceled due to a sound system glitch was put to further good use over the weekend when it was auctioned off for charity.

The bullhorn, through which Scherzinger serenaded the audience with the show’s “With One Look” when last Wednesday’s matinee was canceled, raised $7,000 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Sunset Blvd. composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and director Jamie Lloyd joined the cast onstage for the auction following Friday night’s performance.

Lloyd Webber also made a surprise appearance at the start of Friday’s second act when live video captures actor Tom Francis walking through the dressing rooms of the St. James Theatre.

The 38-year-old actor was joined by wife Domino Kirke, who is currently pregnant with twins, at the premiere of the fifth and final season of You on Wednesday evening (April 23) held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City.

Fellow cast members in attendance included Charlotte Ritchie, Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp, Griffin Matthews, Tati Gabrielle, Natasha Behnam, Pete Ploszek, Tom Francis, Amy-Leigh Hickman, and Frankie DeMaio.

Nicole Scherzinger treated the audience of her Broadway show Sunset Boulevard to a special treat after the matinee performance was canceled due to technical difficulties.

Unfortunately, issues with the sound system led to the cancellation of the Wednesday (April 23) matinee performance.

The Olivier-winning actress initially went on stage with co-star Tom Francis to apologize to the crowd and announce the cancellation. She realized she could give them a special moment, so she ran off stage and came back with her phone to play the backing track.

Nicole then belted out her Act One song “With One Look” using a bullhorn that house management found in the theater.

Smile 2 actor Ray Nicholson has officially joined the star-studded cast of The Mosquito Bowl. The World War II film from Netflix is already set to feature Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård.

Per Deadline, Nicholson has been cast in The Mosquito Bowl along with Tom Francis (You). All four actors will serve as the film's leads. Peter Berg, the director of Netflix's miniseries American Primeval, will helm the project, which is a part of his new deal he recently signed with the streamer. The movie is an adaptation of Buzz Bissinger’s non-fiction book, The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II.

Berg and screenwriter Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) penned the script for the film adaptation. Per the official synopsis, "The Mosquito Bowl is set after the attack on Pearl Harbor, when four of America’s top college football stars set their fame aside to enlist in the Marines.
