The 2024 Wta season promises to be an exciting one, and there are many players seeking to break into the Top 10.
Understandably, the players already at the very top often get the most attention, such as Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka, who recently competed against each other at the World Tennis League in Abu Dhabi.
However, some of the most interesting stories often come from those trying to take the next step to reach the top of the game. Breaking into the top 10 for the first time is an important milestone towards this.
This article lists five players who could have a chance of getting into the Wta Top 10 for the first time if they find their best level, or get even better in 2024.

Leylah Fernandez has reacted to being honored with an award by the Canadian tennis federation, which is her second award this year.
The 2021 US Open runner-up was given the 2023 Tennis Canada Excellence Award for Player of the Year. Felix Auger-Aliassime, who recently said he does not feel he has 'missed the train' compared to his rivals, received the male award.
Fernandez already received the Billie Jean King Finals Heart Award earlier this year for her performances in the Billie Jean King Cup. The Canadian expressed her delight at the recognition in a post on Instagram.
"Massive thanks to the incredible souls who cast their votes and cheered me on every step of the way. Snagging player of the year and the Bjk Finals Heart Award? Pinch me, I must be dreaming!"

Leylah Fernandez proved the hero of Canada once more as she secured a crucial point for her country in the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals final.
To say that this was a magical run by Canada would be underselling it by quite a lot. They assembled a pretty decent team, with Leylah Fernandez expected to shoulder much of the load in singles and Gabriela Dabrowski in the doubles.
Fernandez is the Mvp of Canada by delivering crucial wins in both singles and doubles with Dabrowski, but let's also mention Marina Stakusic, who won some crucial singles matches as well. She bested Martina Trevisan earlier today to give Canada the first point.
The second point comes after Fernandez bested Jasmine Paolini, saving herself from double duty after she had it yesterday. It was Fernandez's fifth win at the event, with all five being crucial.

Leylah Fernandez has joined forces with Gabriela Dabrowski to beat Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova, and send Canada into the final at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
The 21-year-old Canadian has shown great form on the Wta Tour in recent weeks. She was on a seven-match win streak, and funnily enough, it was Katerina Siniakova who snapped that streak.
But that didn't matter much for Fernandez as she proved to be in incredible form at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Seville. First, beating Sara Sorribes Tormo, then overcoming Magda Linette, before besting also Marketa Vondrousova.
The Canadian won all three of her singles matches at the tournament, but with the semifinal tie against the Czech Republic levelled at 1-1 after two singles matches, she needed to step up once again if she wanted to see her country play in the final.

Leylah Fernandez is a real Mvp for Team Canada at the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, beating Marketa Vondrousova to keep the country's hopes of reaching the final alive.
Only recently, the Canadian was on a seven-match winning streak, and while that streak ended, she came to Seville for the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals, and displayed her form to every opponent from Spain to Poland and, most recently, also the Czech Republic.
After eliminating the United States, in a victory to which Marketa Vondrousova contributed with a crucial win, the Czechs took on an inspired Canada, who were in great form ahead of the semifinal tie, not losing a single match before.
That changed in the first match of the semifinal tie, when Marina Stakusic lost to Barbora Krejcikova who proved to be too strong for the 18-year-old, who was a crucial piece in the puzzle for Canada.

After downing Spain yesterday, Canada had another good day of tennis, advancing to the semi-finals of the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup Finals after the wins of Leylah Fernandez and Marina Stakusic.
18-year-old Stakusic has been really impressive so far at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, winning both of her matches. For a young and up-and-coming player, that's quite impressive, as this is not a small event, and there is plenty of pressure involved.
After she downed Magdalena Frech in three sets today, Leylah Fernandez just had to win her singles against Magda Linette to send her country to the semi-finals.
She endured a tough match yesterday against Sara Sorribes Tormo, which was both long and grueling but still came out on fire today. She took the ball early in most rallies, overwhelming Linette pretty quickly.

When asked how she felt about this year’s opening film at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) having been supported by the IDFA Bertha Fund (Ibf), the fund’s executive director and IDFA deputy director Isabel Arrate Fernandez beamed with pride, stating it is “amazing, most of all because it’s a beautiful film.”
The film in question is Olga Chernyk’s “A Picture to Remember,” which has its world premiere at IDFA, running between Nov. 8-19. “The film team was involved with IDFA in several ways, not only through financing via the fund but also because Olga and Kasia [Boniecka], the film’s editor, attended the IDFA Project Space earlier this year. From the fund’s perspective, you never know where the films will end up, and when they start their career this way it’s incredible.”

Leylah Fernandez delivered the crucial win for Canada to upset Spain on their home soil getting their Billie Jean King Cup Finals underway.
The first tie for the Canadian team was a tricky one as they faced host nation Spain in Seville. The first match went the way of Canada, so when Fernandez and Sorribes Tormo stepped up to play it was go time. It was a crucial match, and both players played like that.
The match was very close as it finished in two tiebreaks and each time, it was Fernandez who came out on top. Sorribes Tormo is a very tricky player who switches the rhythm quite often which can give Fernandez trouble. She mostly likes to trade blows from the baseline which is what she's good at.
The trouble for Fernandez was noticeable in both sets as she down a break in both sets, twice in the opening set.

Coco Gauff and Leylah Fernandez are set to meet in an exhibition match at the 2023 Atlanta Open.
The event in Atlanta is an Atp tournament, but now already traditionally, it holds one Wta match for the fans prior to the event. Last year, Gauff and Fernandez were set to meet in that match, called the Sunday Showdown, but the Canadian was forced to withdraw from it because of an injury.
Taylor Townsend replaced the 2021 US Open finalist and it was an all-American match in Atlanta, which ended better for the teenager who beat the more experienced opponent, and she then took on Sofia Kenin in another exhibition match, winning that too when a ball boy helped her to win a match point.
Now, Gauff and Fernandez will give it a try as they are set to meet in the Sunday Showdown again. This time, the event should be held on July 23rd,...

Bianca Andreescu won't be part of Canada's Billie Jean King Cup due to her most recent injury setback.
Andreescu suffered an unfortunate injury during her fourth-round match in Miami just a few days ago. As a result, Canada's team captain, Heidi El Tabakh, has enlisted the help of Katherine Sebov, who is currently ranked 148th on the Wta Tour.
Sebov, the 24-year-old Toronto native, is set to join Canada's Billie Jean King Cup team, filling in for Andreescu, who has been sidelined by a ligament injury in her left ankle. She will join her teammates Leylah Annie Fernandez, Rebecca Marino, and Gabriela Dabrowski in Vancouver, eager to represent Canada on the national stage.
The crucial qualifying match against Belgium is scheduled to take place in Vancouver on April 14th and 15th. Despite her recent second-round defeat in the Charleston tournament to Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, Sebov remains optimistic about her opportunity...

Leylah Fernandez will be playing in the second round of the 2023 Miami Open after she defeated Lesia Tsurenko in the first round.
During the first leg of the Sunshine Double, at Indian Wells, Tsurenko made it to the third round, but withdrew from the match against the second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka. This time, she fought for a third-round spot again but Fernandez stood in her way as she wanted to improve her 2023 record on the Wta Tour.
In the match, the young Canadian, currently ranked 53rd in the Wta Rankings, displayed her signature grit and determination to advance to the second round, overcoming a series of early setbacks against Ukrainian qualifier Tsurenko.
The match commenced with Fernandez facing an unnerving 0-4 deficit in the first set. However, instead of allowing the pressure to get to her, the 20-year-old dug deep and staged an impressive comeback. Demonstrating strategic shot-making, Fernandez clawed her...

London, Feb.1 (Xinhua) There was plenty of activity on the last day of the transfer window in the Premier League, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham all making important signings.
Chelsea set a new English transfer record with the signing of Argentinean midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica, paying his release clause of around 120 million euros.
The fee is around 10 times more than Benfica paid River Plate to buy the player, who was awarded the FIFA Young Player for the World Cup in Qatar, one year ago, although the Argentinean side will receive 25 per cent of the sell-on fee.
The move completes a hectic January for Chelsea, who have spent over 300 million euros in an attempt to strengthen their squad, reports Xinhua.

Ahmedabad, Oct 9 (Ians) Former junior world champion boxer Mandeep Kaur is gunning for a gold medal at the 36th National Games, hoping that a podium finish here would open up doors for her recruitment in Punjab Police and end her dependence on her father’s farm earnings to fund her dietary requirements.
The two-time gold medallist at the Inter-University Games began her National Games campaign with an effortless win over Tamil Nadu’s J Hanna Joy in the 57kg category.
“It’s been a tough journey, especially when I have to go back to my father asking for money for supplements. Whatever pocket money I get from my family is exhausted in diet. It is difficult when you don’t have any sponsors to back you. But then life is all about hopes, and I hope the doors open for me once I win a National Games gold,” she added.
