One of the bigger college hoops games of the weekend was Rutgers and Minnesota. And if there’s one highlight to take from professional or collegiate sports it’s this slam dunk. Don't be put off by its glib, teen-oriented title, E4's My Mad Fat Diary was brilliantly funny, well-written, proper human drama...
As an outsider looking in, My Mad Fat Diary never appeared to be selling what I wanted to buy. Bowing to the logic that anyone who zanily declares ‘I’m mad, me!’ in real life deserves to be given a wide berth, its big, fat gypsy-wedding-alike title didn’t appeal.
Neither did its teen-skewed content, or as much of it as I’d glimpsed from E4’s promos. Cheesy love triangles and mooning over pop stars? Not for me. And that goes double for shows that get their laughs by insulting characters for not conforming to the rules of conventional telly attractiveness. Move along, please. Not interested.
As My Mad Fat Diary approached its final series though, I witnessed something puzzling. People were preparing themselves for bereavement. Fans...

My Mad Fat Diary is back for its third - and final - series this month, and we have your very first look at the gang in the new episodes.
E4 has just popped over this first look picture, featuring Rae (Sharon Rooney), Izzy (Ciara Baxendale), Archie (Dan Cohen), Finn (Nico Mirallegro), Chloe (Jodie Comer), Chop (Jordan Murphy) and Danny (Darren Evans) sitting together in the pub.
We found out in February that the third series of My Mad Fat Diary, made up of three hour-long episodes, will be the last.
The new instalments will see the group planning for their futures, with Chloe looking into attending business school and Finn wanting to settle down.
Meanwhile, Rae will meet a new friend - played by Game of Thrones, Glue and Fresh Meat star Faye Marsay - who "forces her to see everything differently".

Bowlcuts, wide trousers, bad weather – it's Madchester all over again as Laura Barton spends a day in a field with the makers of Spike Island, a film about a legendary Stone Roses show
Once the birthplace of the British chemical industry and later a toxic wasteground, the area of reclaimed woodland and wetland known as Spike Island gained a certain notoriety in May 1990 as the venue for the Stone Roses' Sunset Sunday gig. With a crowd of 27,000, the show in this once-industrial area of Widnes in Cheshire has become the stuff of Madchester legend, rhapsodised, euologised, recounted ad infinitum. This summer, that gig and the band's later reunion are commemorated in two film releases: Made of Stone, a documentary made by Shane Meadows; and Spike Island, a drama directed by Matt Whitecross.

Here’s a movie that we’ve been very much looking forward to ever since it we spoke to Emilia Clark for the Game of Thrones Season 1 DVD release a year ago! The movie focuses on a group of 5 friends who all decide that no matter that they’re going to attend a Stone Roses gig.
We attended the premiere at the London Film Festival late last year and if you missed, them, you can catch out interviews with the cast and filmmakers here. The film gets it’s UK release June 21st and we’ll have a review of it on the site as soon as possible. A trailer will be dropping for the movie later today so keep your eyes peeled for that.

There is a tangible moment in every teenage life when possession of an intact hymen becomes a blushing V-shaped brand of immaturity seared into your consciousness. For Rae that moment is now. Her virginity has become as much of a burden as her sixteen stone frame and her cumbersome insecurity. In the summer of 1996 the really real world revolves around the Seattle sound and the outcome of the Britpop battle. All the good grungy girls and boys thread beads onto their DMs and sit down at James’ command. Kurt Cobain lingers as the voice of a bereft generation and Rae just got released from a psychiatric ward. Luckily her Mum has told everyone she’s been ‘finding herself’ in France. So everything’s going to be fine. Not!
Tom Bidwell’s My Mad Fat Diary journals Rae’s first steps away from the hospital and her metamorphosis from outpatient to fledgling cool kid.
