Various sources are reporting that Matthew Bose who played Emmerdale's groundbreaking and exceedingly popular gay character Paul Lambert will be returning to the show next month after a year's absence. The 36-year-old Bose spent four years on the soap and his Paul Lambert was the first British soap character ever to marry a boyfriend onscreen. (Paul and husband Johnny Foster headed off into the sunset to Australia last year).
Paul Lambert returns to Emmerdale in June for a few episodes to participate in sister Nicole's wedding, but at least according to bang showbiz, the short stint could lead to a permanent return for the character. No word yet on how Paul Lambert might interact with Aaron Livesy, if at all.
We'd like to hear from AfterElton.com members who are longtime fans of the show. Are you excited about Paul Lambert's return?...

In The Spotlight — Emmerdale
This week we bid a fond farewell to Emmerdale’s Paul Lambert (out actor Matthew Bose) and Jonny Foster (Richard Grieve), by taking a look back at their relationship as they exit the series for a new life in Australia – oh, yeah, and to give their troubled marriage a second (or is it third?) chance. It’s been a long hard road for this couple that found their love tested time and again.
Matthew Bose (left) and Richard Grieve
During Paul’s years living in Emmerdale, he endured a series of unsuccessful relationships and tumultuous events including the night he rescued his neighbor Grayson Sinclair (Christopher Villiers) during an assault (and somehow managing to learn of Grayson’s bisexuality in the process0. Grayson’s wife, Perdy (who is aware of her husband’s bisexuality) instantly concluded Paul and Grayson were secretly lovers, but once Paul convinced...

Getting To Know … Shameless
The love life of gay teenager Ian Gallagher (Gerard Kearns) on the U.K. series Shameless has never been easy. Whether it’s having to steal a bed just so he can have sex with his hot new boyfriend (somehow landing in prison because of it), trying to keep his ongoing affair with a married man a secret, or that fling with a homophobic drug dealer who has a strange sexual quirk (big surprise), something always comes along to make finding love (or just getting laid) a trying ordeal for poor Ian.

Shameless, which airs on Channel 4, the same network that brings us Hollyoaks, is a dark and perverse comedy/drama about the twisted lives of the extremely dysfunctional Gallagher family, as well as their friends and their enemies. This week we speak with Tom Chroust, former head writer of Forbidden Love. Chroust started at the show as an intern in August 1998 and eventually became head writer at Fl from July 2007 to June 2008. (He now is part of the writing team at All That Matters.)
During Chroust's tenure as head writer at Fl he shepherded the internationally loved romance between Christian Mann (Thore Schölermann) and Olli Sabel (Jo Weil). We talked to the out writer via email about that storyline, as well as other plots and characters he enjoyed working on. We also asked him what he wished he could have done differently and lots more!
German soap writer, Tom Chroust
AfterElton.com: How did you come up with the love story for Christian and Olli? Was it a story that you already had in mind in general, meaning a gay love story, or for them in particular?

In this edition of Gays Of Our Lives, we introduce “In The Spotlight,” a new recurring feature where we examine in depth a particular series, character or storyline of gay interest.
First up, Casualty’s Dr. Toby De Silva, played by Matthew Needham, who bid goodbye this past week to the long running BBC medical series after a story arc during which the character struggled not only with his sexuality, but with his decision to become a doctor as well.
When Toby first joined the show in September 2007, his conflict over whether or not to be a doctor was quickly apparent as we learned that his overbearing parents had forced him into medicine. And while his relationships with women were rare, fleeting and usually disastrous, there hadn’t been much of an inkling regarding Toby being gay – at least not until he was found in bed with Ben Harding (Mark Letheren...

Emmerdale actor Richard Grieve is to reprise his role as lovelorn Jonny Foster at the beginning of next year. The 38-year-old Australian actor, who was axed by producer Anita Turner in April, will make his comeback as the gay Yorkshire character at the same time as Allo Allo actress Vicki Michelle, who plays his on-screen mother Patricia. Patricia returns to the village in an attempt to reunite her son and his husband Paul Lambert (Mathew Bose). Both Patricia and Jonny find themselves in a head-to-head battle with Paul's mother Vale (Charlie Hardwick), who pulls out all the stops in an attempt to prevent her son from leaving the village. Grieve said of his return: "There is definitely unfinished business between Jonny and Paul and so it will be interesting to see if they have a future together. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Jonny and couldn't (more)...

Two more Emmerdale actors have quit the show, Digital Spy can confirm. Business tycoon Donald de Souza and gay barman Paul Lambert - played by 72-year-old Michael Jayston and 34-year-old Mathew Bose respectively - will depart the Yorkshire village on screen before the end of the year. Speaking of his decision to quit, Bose said: "I've had a brilliant time playing Paul but after four years, I have taken the decision to explore new projects. I have a huge amount of respect and affection for Emmerdale and my colleagues, all of whom I will greatly miss. "This is a personal decision and one that I have agonised over for some time, particularly as the show and Anita in particular have been so supportive of me. I'm grateful that the door will be left open for me to return in the future so this may not be the last we see of Paul.
