P.O.D. have unveiled another new single, “Afraid to Die,” featuring Tatiana Shmayluk of Ukrainian metal band Jinjer.
The track is classic P.O.D. with its fusion of rap and riffs. Frontman Sonny Sandoval’s verses are complimented by clean vocal passages from Shmayluk, and the anthemic sing-a-long chorus harkens back to “Youth of the Nation,” one of the band’s most well-known songs.
“‘Afraid to Die’ is a combination of cryptic and triumphant melodies,” said P.O.D. guitarist Marcos Curiel via a press release. “It has storytelling rhymes and chugged verses, and a wide open, melodic yet semi-morbid, chorus. It’s anthemic In every sense of the word.”
Regarding the collab with Shmayluk, which came to fruition on P.O.D. and Jinjer’s 2022 tour together, Curiel added: “Our dear friend Tatiana Shmayluk offers her unique approach and we had incredible musical chemistry with her. This is P.

P.O.D. have returned with the new song “Drop,” featuring guest vocals from Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe.
“When you hear it, you know it’s P.O.D.!” declared the band’s Sonny Sandoval, and he’s not wrong. The track touches all the P.O.D. bases. Sandoval’s flow is infectious and tight, and heavy rap-metal breakdowns are balanced against more melodic, alt-rock sections.
Blythe’s cameo occurs in the middle break of the song. He growls and narrates vicious lines while guitarist Marcos Curiel’s riffs build to one of the song’s many drops — the track’s title being very appropriate in this case.
“‘Drop’ is another one of a kind, unparalleled banger that sets this band apart from everyone else,” boasted Sandoval.
The San Diego band has been relatively quiet over the past few years. Sandoval and company released a short Christmas lullaby track in 2020; otherwise,...

Evanescence’s 2003 anthem “Bring Me to Life” famously features a rap-metal section. For a while, Amy Lee abandoned that part of the song during the band’s live shows, but lately she’s re-embraced it with the help of some notable vocalists.
For Evanescence’s rendition of “Bring Me to Life” at the Rock Am Ring festival in Germany on Saturday (June 3rd), the band tapped a nu-metal luminary who had performed earlier that day: Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach.
Shaddix was a natural fit — especially considering he helped pioneer the nu-metal rap style with Papa Roach — nailing the vocal part that was performed by Paul McCoy of 12 Stones on the original recording.
Last year, Lee recruited P.O.D. singer Sonny Sandoval to perform the rap section of “Bring Me to Life” during a few shows.

She’s one of the world’s biggest pop singers but Katy Perry actually got her start in the Christian music market both as a solo artist and a featured vocalist for Pod.
Ten years ago the “I Kissed a Girl” songstress appeared with the “Youth of a Nation” rockers on “The Tonight Show,” singing their hit “Goodbye for Now,” as evidenced by the newly-unearthed video footage.
Lead singer Sonny Sandoval told press, "When we did that song 'Goodbye for Now,' we're like, you know what would be cool is if we just got a cool female vocal. And he's [Glen Ballard] like, 'I got just the perfect person.' And here comes little Katy Perry. She's a little studio rat, she'd just come around, and such a sweet girl. You could tell she came from a good family, and just wanted to show the Jesus tattoo on her wrist, and she was like,...

With the release of his latest album, "Yeezus," Kanye West has become a polarizing figure in the Christian community.
Earlier this week, Christian metal band Stryper defended West for crediting "God" on the tracklisting to his song "I Am a God." "When you believe in God, you want Him to be a part of everything you do, guiding you through the entire process," the band's frontman Michael Sweet told TMZ. "So, I understand what is meant."
Another rock band with Christian ties is less than pleased with West, however. Sonny Sandoval of the band P.O.D. also spoke to TMZ, giving some harsh criticism of the rapper. "Kanye West deceives many and will lead many people astray," Sandoval reportedly told TMZ, adding a recitation of Matthew 7:15-23 on the dangers of "false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves."

California rockers P.O.D. are suing their record label for breach of contract. The "Boom" hitmakers claim executives at Tennessee-based Ino Records backtracked on a deal to pay the band an advance for its next album.
In the suit, frontman Sonny Sandoval and his bandmates allege Ino bosses were required to provide a $400,000 advance in November, when the group started recording the follow-up to 2008's "When Angels & Serpents Dance". P.O.D. signed with Ino in February, 2007 after parting company with Atlantic Records.
Unfortunately, the suit does not reveal in detail about Ino's position and the label doesn't give any respond to a request for comment. Although the suit does not specify damages, the P.O.D.'s Nashville-based attorney, John R. Jacobson, told Billboard that the band "will seek at least the $400,000" due from the label and possibly more.
