Netflix unveiled a behind-the-scenes featurette video for “All the Light We Cannot See,” a four-part series arriving in November.
Young Werner (Louis Hoffman) is a German soldier searching for radio signals in Nazi-occupied France when he hears the voice of Marie-Laure (Aria Mia Loberti) broadcasting on her uncle’s radio.
A montage of scenes featuring Marie-Laure hugging her father (Mark Ruffalo), looking down a stairwell and more set to “Clare de Lune” unfold, offering our first look at footage from the adaptation.
“Darkness lasts not even for one second,” the two main characters say, “when you turn on the light.”

Cillian Murphy takes on the role of “one of the most complicated and layered people” in history in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, Oppenheimer.
The Peaky Blinders star will play J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb, in the famed director’s biopic, which follows the physicist as he works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, as they develop the deadly weapon.
“It’s the best script I ever read,” Murphy told Rolling Stone UK. The story is told entirely in the first person from Oppenheimer’s perspective, which the actor appreciated. “I think the film is sensational. As a person who loves films — I’m not saying it ’cause I’m in the fucking thing, I hate looking at myself — but as a lover of film, as a cinephile, I’m a Chris Nolan fan.”

Banijay Group CEO Marco Bassetti may be making a smart marketing move by delivering a Mipcom keynote on Oct. 18, but the Italian executive insists that “PR, for us, comes after.” At the first major TV market for the “Survivor” distributor since its 2.2 billion acquisition of Endemol Shine Group in 2020, Bassetti has a clear message: Producers, including Banijay, need a more equitable business model against the streamers.
“It’s the golden age of content, but I’m not sure it’s the golden age of revenue share for producers,” Bassetti tells Variety from Banijay Group’s Paris headquarters in late September. “We need to be careful if we want to continue creating value in the industry. We need to fight to allow producers to keep their model as it was before.”
That model, of course, refers to the rights and back-end revenue that keep Banijay’s 120-plus production companies around the world afloat.

David Cronenberg's 2007 crime drama "Eastern Promises" offers several memorable scenes — the one that often comes up in conversation is that bath house fight to the death featuring Mortensen's Nikolai as vulnerable as a man can be (and he fared a lot better than most of us would in the same situation). But another sequence leans just as far into the Canadian director's obsession with the language and evolution of the body.
Nikolai, a "fixer" for the London arm of the Russian mafia, is rising up in the ranks. Before he can go further, he must be evaluated; such assessments are done with the prospect presenting his body to high-ranking members so they can read the resume marked upon it. The tattoos etched into his skin say, for starters, that Nikolai had served time in a Siberian prison, and that he was formerly a thief — it's written all over him.

This review of “The Desperate Hour” (formerly known as “Lakewood”) was first published on Sept. 12, 2021 after the film’s premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
A mom’s morning jog becomes a gimmick running in place in “The Desperate Hour,” a crisis scenario striving for issue-driven importance that should have paid more attention to its dull suspense mechanics, slapdash style, and implausibility.
The estimable Naomi Watts is always in fighting shape for the deep feelings of a peril picture, as her all-in turns in “Funny Games,” “The Impossible” and “The Wolf Hour” attest — hell, throw in “King Kong” too — but as Amy Carr, a widow in the woods and desperate to get to a son in danger, it’s the actress who’s stuck and unable to escape the confines of a cheap trap that only gets more tedious as it goes along.

Series creator Stephen Knight has now revealed the there is a movie in the future for Peaky Blinder fans.

Knight said the following about the future of Peaky Blinders to Deadline:
“Covid changed our plans. But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”

The heightened social and racial tensions around the world have made the calls for change louder than they’ve been for a while, and one of the ways that Hollywood has reacted is by removing movies and TV shows from circulation that could be seen as either insensitive or offensive when viewed through a modern lens.
The heavy use of Confederate imagery in The Dukes of Hazzard may see the series dropped from streaming entirely, while even classics like Gone with the Wind aren’t safe. However, one of the more contentious decisions has been Netflix’s call to pull an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia that features white characters using blackface.
While you can understand why it was done given the current climate, It’s Always Sunny has always had a reputation for being one of the smartest and most subversive comedies of the modern era, and one...

Continuing the series where writers recommend underappreciated films available to stream, a call to watch and admire Tom Hardy’s single-location masterwork
At first glance, Stephen Knight’s 2013 single location road movie Locke might seem like an antithetical quarantine watch. The plot, which revolves around a concrete pour, and takes place entirely within the claustrophobic confines of a slate grey BMW X5, is not exactly escapist fare for those negotiating the mundanity of life under lockdown. Yet 85 minutes trapped in a car with Tom Hardy turns out to be a transfixing, transporting experience.

FX and BBC are teaming up this winter to bring us the latest adaptation of that oft-told festive ghost story A Christmas Carol. The Usp of this version is that it’s a miniseries rather than a single movie and comes from the minds behind gritty Victorian drama Taboo – writer Stephen Knight, exec producer Ridley Scott and producer Tom Hardy, with the Venom star also set to appear.
As you can see in this first trailer, though, Hardy won’t be playing Ebeneezer Scrooge. That honor goes to Guy Pearce. Andy Serkis joins him as the Ghost of Christmas Past, with Stephen Graham as Scrooge’s dead partner Jacob Marley and Jason Flemyng as the Ghost of Christmas Future. Going by the obvious gap in the ghostly lineup, Hardy could fill the role of the Ghost of Christmas Present, but this hasn’t been confirmed as yet.

In Serenity, Matthew McConaughey plays a hard-drinking fisherman with a murky past who is on the trail of his own Moby Dick, a large tuna fish called Justice. Written and directed by Stephen Knight (Locke), the film appears to be a rather messy amalgamation of Neo-Noir clichés and heavily coded tropes and never quite manages to get to the point, and in the end winds up sounding like the ramblings of a mad man.
The action takes place on the fictional Island of Plymouth where a small fishing community lives off the few wealthy tourists hoping to catch the “big one” and where Baker Dill (McConaughey), the captain of a small fishing boat hopes to make ends meet in between drowning his sorrows in a bottle of rum and late night hook-ups with his lover Constance (Diane Lane).
