The story of MTV is set to be rolled out in a new podcast series hosted by former VJ Dave Holmes.
Audacy Podcasts is launching Who Killed the Video Star? The Story of MTV, an eight-part series that launches today, March 27.
“MTV is still on the air in 2024, and it’s still profitable, but my nieces and nephews know it as a logo on an Urban Outfitters t-shirt. I wanted to know what happened, and where the spirit of MTV exists now,” said Holmes.
The series will explore the cultural history, impact, legacy, and phenomenon of MTV and looks at what it turned into.
Holmes, who previously hosted Waiting for Impact, the wild story of boy band Sudden Impact, is hosting with guests including former VJs such as Julie Brown, Damien Fahey, and Kevin Seal, former MTV News correspondents Gideon Yago, Chris Connelly, and Suchin Pak, former Viacom Music and Entertainment Group president Doug Herzog,...

Like a big, fat chameleon, Peter Griffin has managed to infiltrate countless social groups over the years — remember when he was gay for almost an entire episode? — but his stint as a millennial will surely prove to be one of his darkest.
Sunday’s Family Guy (Fox, 9/8c) finds Peter adopting a younger lifestyle “to help promote the brewery to millennials … and his methods soon attract the attention of a high-powered Silicon Valley executive.”
But as you’ll see in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek, Peter’s little experiment doesn’t necessarily go according to plan, especially for his new...

Impassioned political acceptance speeches punctuated an otherwise run-of-the-mill Oscars ceremony last night, with Neil Patrick Harris landing half his jokes and the predicted frontrunners getting their due. A notable upset, though, was the "Boyhood" Best Picture and Best Director snub, which incensed cinephiles and celebrities alike across the far reaches of the internet. Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers comes out this weekend and although most of the stories surrounding the movie focus on its Disney starlets (Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens) gone bad, what this movie really got me thinking about is how this is the first year in forever that I haven’t had a spring break.
I didn’t have an older sibling, so everything I knew about college came from movies and TV. Given that, when I was in high school, I imagined spring break would be a 24-hour party where everyone was beautiful, the music bumped all night long,...

Daniel Tosh is that guy that created a webisode series called Tosh.O on Comedy Central way before Rob Dyrdek basically did the same show on MTV. He shows video clips of people being jackasses and even recreates some of the moments by bringing said jackasses on his show. He may be hilarious to some, but recently when he did a rape joke he came off as the jackass and people immediately headed to Twitter to express how they felt. (Because, well, that's just what our society does now when a debatable situation like this happens. We'd rather do that than write a novel on our Facebook even though a lot of people still do that too.)
Anywho, here's the breakdown on why people got either infuriated or didn't care less about the incident.
1. Daniel Tosh states at the Laugh Factory how rape jokes are always funny.

Matthew Mitcham, the oldest unicorn in the forest.
Welcome to the first Celebrity Twitterwatch of 2012. We've still got some details from 2011 to wrap up, but I feel that I should warn the universe that we are not signing on to this trend of calling the new year 20-dozen. That's just dumb, and trust us, we know dumb when we see it.
As Australia rang in the New Year before most people, Matthew Mitcham couldn't even be bothered to stay up for the event at his advanced age of 23 years. That's what happens when you find the love of your life at such a young age and settle down. That's why Twitterwatch stays single - it keeps us young. That and people are afraid we'll publish their love-tweets to us.
It's 2012 and it's official. I'm a grandpa. In bed before 12, up before 8 and I didn't even have a drink. Time for my high-bran muesli.

Challenges notwithstanding, the celebrity survivor will also have to stomach the return of former contestants Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, who landed in Costa Rica on Tuesday, as well as Janice Dickinson and Daniel Baldwin, who are also set to return to the jungle. Watching it all go down in fancy high heels has been co-host Myleene Klass,...

Despite Heidi and Spencer's predictions she'd win, America booted Heidi's sister from the jungle Thursday night.

Looks like Spencer and Heidi were wrong again.
After they predicted that Heidi's sister, Holly Montag, would win "I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!," Holly's jungle adventure came to an end Thursday night. "The Hills" co-star, (who joined the "Celeb" cast early last week to replace Speidi) and self-appointed "world's first supermodel" Janice Dickinson were the third and fourth players America voted off the show.
Despite her ultimate ouster, Holly proved herself a worthy contender on the series. Right off the bat, she was eager to compete in as many challenges as possible, even helping the women emerge victorious in her first Food Challenge. However, Holly's biggest claim to fame during her time in the jungle,...

Usher filed for divorce Friday from his wife of nearly two years, Tameka Foster-Raymond, according to The Associated Press. The petition, filed at Superior Court in Atlanta, did not give a reason for the split.
The marriage between Usher, 30, and Foster, 38, reportedly has been strained for months now. Sources have said the pair haven't lived under the same roof for quite some time, as Usher has relocated to Nevada to work on his next solo album. Pictures and video of Usher, alongside Jermaine Dupri and others, partying in Las Vegas have appeared online in recent weeks.
A rep for Usher had no comment when contacted by MTV News.

After their shocking decision to leave "I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here," earlier this week, newlyweds Heidi and Spencer Pratt had a change of heart and decided they didn't really want to quit the show. Will they be allowed to come back? That remains to be seen, as Wednesday night's episode closed with their fate left in the hands of their co-stars, who seemed divided about allowing the controversial pair to return. About their desire to come back, Heidi said, "We realized that we made a big mistake… we really took it for granted." Her new husband Spencer said, "I lost my mind, I love all of those people. … I just looked at the whole experience the wrong way." It was decided that if their co-stars agreed to allow them another chance, they would have to spend a night in the lost chamber to re-enter the competition. But when the show's host,...

Nine contestants participating in the second season of "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!" get an easy lead when two celebrities decided to walk out of the competition voluntarily. Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, known as Speidi, once again quit the show after previously reported bailing twice and coming back twice.
The first episode premiered on NBC Monday, June 1 but before that, a show insider told Ok! Magazine that the couple first quit on Saturday morning. Hours later they were back on the camp and made it through the night. On Sunday, which was the second day shooting, they headed toward the exit but reportedly came back again.
On the Tuesday night episode, host Damien Fahey announced that Speidi was sitting out for the episode. The couple was ditching the show because "super-celebrities don't belong in the jungle. They belong in Hollywood with the paparazzi," according to Spencer.

It’s official. I have a new summer obsession: “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!”
Last night’s two-hour premiere was a marathon of train wrecks, egos and schadenfreude … and I loved every second of it. Who knew that watching Stephen Baldwin, Lou Diamond Phillips, Sanjaya and Janice Dickinson chow down on raw tripe and cow-intestine milkshakes would bring me such immense joy?
In a weird way, I was proud of my home-team players, Spencer and Heidi Pratt. Those two MTV superstars stole the show with their delusional expectations, spontaneous prayer sessions and cartoonish scheming.
Here are my five fave Speidi moments from the premiere of “I’m a Celeb …”:
5) The 9th contestant on the show? Heidi’s hair-care products. During the final live moments (where the celebs were put in positions resembling waterboarding — except instead of liquid, they were covered with creepy crawlies), Heidi sat...

Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway admired each other's outfits at the Bride Wars premiere in NYC last night. On the red carpet, Kate talked about how happy she is for Lance and his baby news, relationship, and love. The girls had a full day dividing and conquering the interview circuit - they posed at a photo shoot, Anne went on The Early Show, and Kate stopped by The Late Show in a backless sequined dress. She joked with Dave about Anne's ex-boyfriend, got sentimental about Ryder growing up and his skiing accidents, and said that she was done being a producer after this movie. Despite rumored tension on the set, it looks like Kate and Anne are happy to share the promotional responsibilities leading up to the movie's release this weekend. To see more photos from the premiere and afterparty at Tiffany's, as well as videos from Kate's visit to Letterman,...

On the evening, the comedy movie's leading ladies who play best friends-turned-ultimate rivals, Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson, were seen sharing the spotlight when posing for the press on the blue carpet. The Backstreet Boys were awesome on Trl!

Britney Spears is all over the damn place!
And, no, it’s not 1998.
This week has seen the resurgence of pop acts and icons first popularized a decade ago, back when “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” was the party anthem and you knew exactly what an MmmBop was. It isn’t very often one can relive their preadolescent glory days within one, splendid week.

Trl had its final moments last night with a show bringing back the biggest stars who ever stopped by the Times Square studio. Beyonce kicked it off with a performance that included the classic "Crazy in Love" but sadly no Jay-z cameo. Carson Daly returned for the show, as did Diddy, who made the most appearances of any celebrity. Justin stopped by to make fun of his frosted tips while Kid Rock smoked his cigar all throughout his performance. Of course, the streets were crowded with one last group of screaming fans that got to watch Fall Out Boy (without Pete Wentz) perform to help complete the show. Even Jesse Camp stopped by with Wanna Be a VJ runner up David Holmes. After a little more than ten years on the air, they counted down its most crucial videos of its history ending with Britney's ". . .Baby One More Time" at No.

On Sunday, November 16, Travis Barker had an interview with MTV's Damien Fahey during "Total Finale Live", talking about his recovery from the second- and third-degree burns as a result of the deadly plane crash in September. In the interview, his first on-camera since the tragedy, he thanked fans for their never-ending support.
"Thanks for all the support. I feel better every day," Travis told Damien and the audience attending the finale of "Total Request Live." Now that he's getting back into the studio and already playing drums again, he admitted, "It was like riding a bike. It was really exciting to know I still have my chops. It still felt good. I still can make it around the kit. Everything felt right, so I'm thankful to be able to play."
Feeling much better and is ready to make some music again, Travis said he would like to team up with DJ Am for future project.

Come Monday afternoon, the streets of Times Square will be just a tad quieter, or at least it will be outside of 1515 Broadway. After 10 years and more than 2,000 shows, Trl is throwing in the towel Sunday (MTV at 8 pm/Et) with a star-studded blowout bash, dubbed Total Finale Live, before the lights dim.
Once the network's most-watched show, the flagship series is, admittedly, past its heyday. But remember when it was prime daytime, after-school programming? The screams, the fans, the airtime actually devoted to videos, and the screams.
Carson Daly, who departed Trl in 2003 to focus on his NBC talk show, Last Call, will be on hand to emcee the finale festivities, alongside current host Damien Fahey, and a plethora of Trl faves, including Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, the Backstreet Boys, Diddy and 50 Cent. But before he jetted back to his east coast claim to fame, the 35-year-old chatted with TVGuide.
