Simon Cowell is back in business and set to star as a judge on the Israel version of The X Factor.
The music mogul has spent some of the second half of 2020 recovering from complex back surgery after an electric bike accident.
He will be a judge on the fourth season of The X Factor in Israel, which airs on Reshet 13 and has just gone into production. It marks the first time that he will be a judge outside of the UK and U.S. on the singing competition show he created.
Cowell said, “Over the years The X Factor format discovered amazing talents from all over the world, I can’t wait to see what Israel have to offer.”

Watch your backs, Tyra and Heidi -- there's another model headed to primetime.
Bar Refaeli has been named the host of "The X Factor" in Israel, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The Israeli model has previously appeared on-camera in the movie "Session" as well as several widely-watched commercials (remember this year's GoDaddy.com spot?). But Israeli "The X Factor" will be her first major hosting gig, a huge professional move for Refaeli.
Israel already has its own long-running version of "American Idol" ("Kochav Nolad") and began airing an Israeli version of "The Voice" in 2012. Haaretz notes that "Kochav Nolad" will be making significant changes to its roster of hosts and judges this year, perhaps in response to the Refaeli news.
The 27-year-old model will be joined on "The X Factor" by judges Rami Fortis, Moshe Peretz and Ivri Lider. (Shiri Maimon is rumored to be the fourth judge on tap.)
And with that,...

While I can’t help but notice all the problems with the current reality singing competitions flooding our TV screens, countries like Israel seem to be enjoying them just as much as we were ten years ago. After the ratings success of Israel’s version of The Voice, channel 2 network, Reshet Broadcasting, decided to scoop up the format used for The X Factor and create their own version of that competition. Since then, judges have been rounded up – hopefully they prove to be less dramatic than some American judges are known to be – and the show only needed a host. Since Ryan Seacrest wasn’t available, the Israel edition of The X Factor found someone just as appealing: Bar Refaeli.
Her name might be strange to those of us on this side of the world, but her crystal clear beauty speaks a universal language – this girl is someone to watch.

Ivri Lider
Out Israeli pop star Ivri Lider, most notable for his song “Jesse,” recently partnered up with producer Johnny Goldstein, a prodigy in the Tel Aviv music scene, forming the group Typ - The Young Professionals. Drawing comparisons to Scissor Sisters and Mgmt, the group’s first single "D.I.S.C.O." is purely disco/pop-heaven, ready for the dance floors with an artistic video featuring fabulous cross-dressing and retro dance moves:
The Young Professionals’ forthcoming debut album 9:00 to 17:00, 17:00 to Whenever (9 to 5, 5 to Whenever, for you Americans out there) is slated for release on June 26, and with all their success overseas the group were nominated for “Best Worldwide Act” at the 2011 MTV European Music Awards.
Below are ten questions for Ivri exclusively for AfterElton.com readers:

Yonatan Goldstein and Ivri Lider
The Israeli duo The Young Professionals (Yonatan Goldstein and the out Ivri Lider) have released a techno-pop remake of the 1979 song "D.I.S.C.O.", originally recorded by French duo Ottawan.
The song is pure euro-awesome with a little Pet Shop Boys thrown in, and the video is a little bit of Robert Palmer with some Project Runway-style fashions disasters.
Oh, and there's a magical hula hoop, too. Because ... why not?...

One of my favorite Saturday Night Live sketches of all time is the Sabra Price Is Right, an Israeli version of the Price Is Right written by Robert Smigel and starring a surprisingly convincing Tom Hanks as the pushy Israeli host. In between segments of them pushing broken electronic goods on unsuspecting contestants, Hanks and company (Sandler and Schneider) would hit on the ladies in contestants row, with a “Why you no go to disco with him?” and a “Disco, disco, go, go, to disco.” This same joke was used years later in the Israeli celebration film You Don’t Mess With The Zohan. I used to think “How strange, none of the Israelis I know ever seem to mention disco…” almost disappointed, because let’s face it, I f*cking love disco. You show me a Thelma Houston’s “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” and I’ll show...

Q: Just wondering if there is any information on Star Trek hottie Anton Yelchin's orientation? -- Logan, Terre Haute, In
Anton Yelchin as Star Trek's Ensign Checkov
A: I confess I was confused by the casting of Yelchin as Chekov, because unlike the rest of the new Enterprise crew, he doesn’t look anything like original actor Walter Koenig, not even when you really, really squint.
On the other hand, Yelchin deliberately hams up the Russian accent, just like Koenig, apparently for comic relief. (Interestingly, both Yelchin and Koenig really are of Russian decent, with parents who emigrated to the U.S. Yelchin even has an accent in real life.)
The 20-year-old actor (who also appears in Terminator Salvation) has indicated in interviews that he’s straight.
