For Jennifer Lopez, a November 2014 performance in Macau wasn’t entirely out of the ordinary. She’d have to sing (here, to a backing track) for 40 minutes, accompanied by six to eight dancers; the contract stipulated she’d be furnished with “first-class” sound and lights. No recording or taping of the performance would be allowed. But no tickets were sold, either. And the payday stood out, too: 1.25 million. To celebrate the birthday of a relative, a wealthy Chinese family flew Lopez to Asia to perform for them, tossing in 500,000 for...

The 11th annual Patrick Warburton Celebrity Golf Tournament, known as The Warburton, will not be a golf tournament for the first time since it began a decade ago in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year, Songwriters Night will stream online on at 6 p.m. Pt / 9 p.m. Et on Tuesday, April 20, and The Rheneypalooza Jam will stream online at 6 p.m. Pt / 9 p.m. Et on Wednesday, April 21 via thewarburton.krglive.com. It’s been nearly a week since a series of tornadoes struck the Nashville area on March 3rd, causing widespread damage in the city’s densely populated neighborhoods — including the destruction of beloved music venue the Basement East — and killing more than two dozen people in the surrounding area. Volunteers have been working overtime to clear streets and yards or bring food and other necessities to affected areas, but it’s going to be a long road to recover and rebuild.

This event continues to be the highest grossing golf tournament for St. Jude nationwide. Last year, attendees raised $2.2 million. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $9.8 million for St. Jude.
Because of generous donors, events like this help ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Among the guests were more than 75 of Warburton’s celebrity friends, including rock legends and songwriters, who enjoyed a...

Call it "Night Fragrance for Night Music." Multi-talented artist Jill Tracy is not only a celebrated singer-songwriter and composer of dark, sensual and otherworldly musicc, she has also entered the world of exotic fragrances. Together with master perfumer Emerson Hart of San Francisco's Nocturne Alchemy, Jill has designed a set of perfumes that share the same name name and theme as her recently-released album Silver Smoke, Star of Night, which she describes as “Christmas music for those who prefer the October chill.”
“Just like we create visuals to go with music, like album art and videos, I thought why not create a scent as a “conjuring companion” to music?” Jill told FEARnet. “That was the whole idea behind these perfumes—she describes on her blog as “My musical netherworld set to scent.”

The first chat I had with pianist/singer/renaissance worman Jill Tracy opened my eyes and ears to a beautifully haunted world of music, stories and images, including her collaboration with filmmaker Bill Domonkos on “The Fine Art of Poisoning,” one of many excellent films in FEARnet's shorts collection; her intense upcoming musical project after being awarded a grant by Philadelphia's amazing Mütter Museum; and a series of “Musical Séances” (with violinist Paul Mercer) in which the audience's treasured objects and artefacts actually channel a spontaneous live performance. Those are just a few pages from Jill's body of work, and we'll be exploring more in the near future... but today I'd like to focus on a mixed-media holiday project that Jill describes as “Christmas for those who prefer the October chill.” The album Silver Smoke, Star of Night explores the roots of well-known Christmas carols in ways that will surprise and maybe even chill you.

The Film:
All highly successful horror films deserve a sequel or five, but 1997′s Scream 2 is just as good, if not better than its predecessor. It’s simply the Hollywood case of “more”, and that’s what we get out of Scream 2. More kills. More twists. More, more, more. And it works. Proving that you can stretch the satirical nature of the franchise into “more”, Kevin Williamson stabs (ahem) the notion of sequels and the rules, while being self-referential about the popularity of the budding franchise.
While the film came out theatrically in December 1997, I waited for the film to hit VHS (ahaha) some six months later. While waiting (and we didn’t have the internet to spoil the revelations), my sister and I rocked the soundtrack, which featured some of the series’ best soundtrack tracks. Kottonmouth Kingz’ Suburban Life; She’s Always in My Hair by D’Angelo; songs by Collective Soul,...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTVNews.com. Every week, they'll answer a poll question that will reveal some of what we talk about behind the scenes here in the newsroom. Enjoy!
This week, details surfaced about one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the fall. No, not Jay-z's The Blueprint 3 or Lil Wayne's Rebirth. We're talking about the soundtrack to "New Moon," which will likely feature contributions from Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Muse, Kings of Leon and Death Cab for Cutie. There was also the announcement of the soundtrack to "Jennifer's Body," the new Diablo Cody-penned horror film. With that, combined with the quarter-century anniversary of one of the finest film soundtracks ever constructed (that being Prince's Purple Rain), this week's question is:...

It’s a relatively quiet week for new releases. There’s Regina Spektor’s follow-up to her breakout, a new album from the Mars Volta and the latest from Pete Yorn. But today also sees the release of A Casual Affair: The Best of Tonic.
This begs the question: Huh?
For anybody who didn’t come of age in the Clinton years, Tonic had a big radio hit in 1996 with a tune called “If You Could Only See.” After that, they basically fell off the map (save for a few appearances on various soundtracks to the “American Pie” movies). The set contains that single plus a bunch of other songs that never quite got there. Even if you allow that “You Wanted More” and “Open Up Your Eyes” were “hits,” that’s still only three tunes on a 15-track album. Three songs is an Ep, not a $15 album.
