Exclusive: The BBC is reviewing its commissioning practices in its Children’s & Education department following a two-year period of sweeping change.
Deadline understands an audit took place late last month and its findings are due back shortly.
The terms of the audit are wide-ranging and include whether commissioning decisions are being made that adhere to BBC public service values and examines the relationship between Patricia Hidalgo’s department and the new BBC Studio’s Kids & Family division, which used to be an in-house producer but was subsumed by commercial outfit BBC Studios earlier this year and can now make shows for other networks.

"Build it and they will come". That was very much the philosophy that led to the creation of Screen Stockport Film Festival around two years ago. What started out as making a short film with my friends, turned into a desire to create a film festival in Stockport to give fellow young filmmakers an opportunity to share their films with an audience.
Screen Stockport was then born, with the ambition of it becoming an inclusive, grassroots film festival for filmmakers of all ages and experiences. I wanted to give young people who aspired to have a career in the media an environment to share their passion and enthusiasm with other creatives and connect with industry professionals from the North West.

Successful young entrepreneurs will be taken to foreign cities and challenged to make money in a new BBC Three reality series. The Last Tycoon is in production at the Bbc's Manchester factual entertainment unit, which makes Dragons' Den. A dozen young professionals will be paired up, given a basic living wage and challenged to come up with a profitable business idea. They will have five days in each city to put their schemes into action. In a reversal of conventional reality TV logic, each week's most profitable team will be sent home to their day jobs.
