We’re unable to stamp Rabbit Trap with an actual 2023 production start date so this guesstimate might be completely off but short film and commercials director British-Australian Bryn Chainey has had a steak knife firmly planted in the genre for a while now (his short Kill Your Dinner premiered at the Berlinale in 2016). With a horror-experienced producing team behind him, this set in 1970’s Wales horror film stars Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen.

Independent Entertainment have boarded M. Cahill’s “Porcupine” and will launch international sales at the Cannes Marche.
Vertical Entertainment have the North American rights and have set a summer 2022 release for the film, which was written and directed by Cahill.
Featuring Jena Malone (Hunger Games franchise) and Robert Hunger-Bühler (“Vacuum”), “Porcupine” is based on a true story about “a woman’s longing to belong.”
In the offbeat feature, Malone plays Audrey, a woman who is estranged from her family and struggles to hold down a job, having been fired seven times in two years. Afflicted by the unspoken pandemic of loneliness, she finds solace in going down YouTube rabbit holes. One day that changes when she stumbles across a video about adult adoption and decides to try it out for herself.

Alexandra Daddario, who is best known for her roles in San Andreas, Baywatch, True Detective is set to star in a dramatic thriller called I Am Not a Bird. Daddario has never really been a movie role that shows she's got real talent. Maybe this one will be it. The film is based onthe book called Lost Girls and Love Hotels, and this is the description:
I Am Not a Bird centers around a young western woman, Margaret, in the midst of losing herself in the bachanal of nighttime Tokyo. Haunted by memories of her twin brother’s descent into madness, Margaret courts danger with her fellow ex-pat misfits in dive bars and love hotels. When she falls for Kazu, a handsome Japanese gangster, she has a chance at redemption but with the threat of a killer in the city, Margaret is in a race to find herself before she’s lost completely.

He was 82 when we met, and I was 36. My producer, Lawrence Inglee and I, had driven to San Diego to discuss him playing the titular character in the movie I was directing, “Max Rose.” A week before, we had giddily listened to the phone message he’d left us perhaps 150 times. Since word of his interest had gotten out, we’d received multiple warnings that Jerry Lewis was a monster who would make our lives miserable. As we nervously approached the ramp to the boat where he awaited us, we discussed strategies for dancing with the devil, agreeing it would be worth it so long as we got the performance.

How far will the new American aristocracy go to protect its privileges? Oren Moverman’s intense four-way war of wills is sourced from a novel but shapes up as an intense stage piece in a chi-chi restaurant interrupted by flashbacks and other stylistic flourishes. The acting foursome is excellent, with Steve Coogan a standout as a truly disturbed character. Four adults debate their sons’ high crimes and misdemeanors over designer cuisine.

We got no qualms with being flat out wrong with our predictions set, but we’re thinking we might sort of still be in the know with this prediction…perhaps a full year too early. With production having taken place in 2014, we can imagine that Israeli-born/NYC-based/Tisch Ido Fluk reserved 2015 for post prod activities such as color mixing and working the score with now considered veteran Sundance attendees in Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (Nasty Baby). Starring Dana Stevens in the lead, with a supporting cast that includes Malin Akerman, Kerry Bishé, and Oliver Platt, The Ticket now sports a longer list of producers and is definitely a title to look out for in ’16.

Receiving wall-to-wall support from the Sundance Institute participating in a fivesome of labs all in 2014 (the January Screenwriters Lab, Directors Lab, Music and Sound Design Lab at Skywalker Sound, Creative Producing Summit and finally, the June Screenwriters Lab), music-video director (Foster the People and the Shins) tandem Dan Kwan & Daniel Scheinert made ’14 a true year to connect with the Sundance folk by submitting Possibilia (a 16 parallel universe world with Zoe Jarman and Alex Karpovsky playing tumultuous lovers) in the New Frontier section. Featured in Filmmaker Magazine Top 25 Faces, production on Swiss Army Man took place this past July and surely got submitted in rough form. The American Film Market (Afm) began today in Santa Monica, California, and one of the first announcements out of the gate was casting for Shane Carruth's upcoming feature The Modern Ocean. Fans of Carruth (such as myself) have loved his past films Primer and Upstream Color not only for their enigmatic stories, but also for the independent spirit and creation behind them.So it comes as a bit of a surprise to see a list of names who will be starring in the film. Not only Anne Hathaway and Keanu Reeves, but also Daniel Radcliffe, Chloe Grace Moretz, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Abraham Attah, and Jeff Goldblum. Carruth will also star, as in his previous films. Lawrence Inglee of Blackbird, Eyal Rimmon of Tadmor, and Carruth's...

If indie filmmaker Shane Carruth (Primer, Upstream Color) is keen to make a lasting first impression at tomorrow’s American Film Market, he’s certainly assembled the star-studded cast to do so. Not content with lining his upcoming maritime drama The Modern Ocean with the likes of Chloe Grace Moretz, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Jeff Goldblum and Beasts of No Nation scene-stealer Abraham Attah, today brings word that Carruth and FilmNation have attracted Daniel Radcliffe, Anne Hathaway and John Wick star Keanu Reeves for the motion picture.
Set against the hyper-competitive market of shipping routes and the intense, all-consuming rivalries they spawn, The Modern Ocean is certainly a sprawling adventure on paper, and reports state that Carruth’s script is a 200-page tome replete with diagrams and various annotations. Billed as an “epic tale, fraught with danger and intrigue, takes us from the ancient trading houses of Algeria to the...

We imagine that for plenty of docu-helmers (take the tumultuous past couple of years in that Laura Poitras had to undergo) that sometimes life is indeed truer than fiction. A documentarian who has made several trips to Sundance (Beirut: The Last Home Movie, An American Love Story and Flying: Confessions of a Free Woman) is now turning the lenses on her own experience….one that digs into childhood and adulthood. Screen reports that will direct Laura Dern, Ellen Burstyn, Sebastien Koch (The Danish Girl) and Elizabeth Debicki (Kurzel’s Macbeth) in an investigative thriller called The Tale. Principal photography is set for this summer, with the multi-talented Oren Moverman producing alongside Lawrence Inglee and Fox. Marc Almon and Sol Bondy serve as co-producers.

With a small body of work including his low-budgeted directorial debut (Never Too Late) which orbited around the Fribourg and Edinburgh Film Festivals and garnered some buzz (insider industry type), the Israeli-born/NYC-based/Tisch grad helmer Ido Fluk managed to lasso one of the hot ticket actors of this past Sundance edition in The Guest star, Dan Stevens. Fluk’s sophomore feature gig also includes Malin Akerman, Kerry Bishé, and Oliver Platt (who we should add, is about to have an incredible 2015). Fluk co-wrote The Confines (another presumed 2015 title) and began filming on The Ticket this past August in upstate New York. So technically they’ll have had to package a rough cut if submitted the film to Sundance, and worth noting is two key ingredients: filmmaker Oren Moverman, is the film’s producer and on the tech side, we find camera work of Zachary Galler, who showed his skillset...
