Here Are All the Songs in ‘Firefly Lane’ Season 2 Part 1
Katherine Heigl, Sarah Chalke, Roan Curtis, and Ali Skovbye in Toujours là pour toi (2021)
“Firefly Lane” Season 2 has arrived, and with it comes another loaded lineup of signature songs for the seventies, eighties, nineties and early 2000s. Throughout the shifts between three separate timelines in Tully and Kate’s friendship, needle drops help distinguish which part of their lives we’re watching, especially when it gets confusing between the older versions of Kate Mularkey Ryan (Sarah Chalke) and Tully Hart (Katherine Heigl). Kristin Hannah’s 400+ page novel off of which the television show is based uses certain songs and lyrics to introduce the new decades, or parts of the book, like Abba’s “Dancing Queen,” Pat Benatar’s “Love Is a Battlefield” and more.

Season 2 boasts two Whitney Houston songs — “I’m Every Woman” and “How Will I Know” — Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors,” The Knack’s “My Sharona,” Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody” and “Closer to Fine” by The Indigo Girls.

Every Song In Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (& Who Sings Them)
Image
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story features the music and public persona of "Weird" Al Yankovic throughout the movie, including some of Al's most famous parodies. The almost entirely fictitious comedy tells the story of Yankovic's rise from humble beginnings to become "perhaps not technically the best, but arguably the most famous accordion player in a specific genre of music." Interestingly, the movie also contains a range of other songs from artists who aren't the movie's focus

While the plot of Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is a parody of music biopics, it still features the songs Weird Al actually released, and involves some real details from the stories surrounding their creation. Daniel Radcliffe plays Al in the movie, but doesn't actually sing the songs, except for a spoken-word number in the midst of an on-stage breakdown. Instead, the songs in the movie are Weird Al's own renditions.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story: Everything We Know So Far
'Weird Al' Yankovic at an event for The 57th Annual Grammy Awards (2015)
Weird Al, a five-time Grammy Award winning musician, burst onto the music scene back in '79 with "My Bologna," a parody of The Knack's hit "My Sharona." Over the past 40 years, he's put his own comedic spin on hits by Madonna, Michael Jackson, Coolio, Miley Cyrus, and countless other billboard topping hits. Now, he's decided to give his own origin story a parodic tilt.

In 2010, Funny or Die released a sketch that was a fake trailer for a delightfully odd biopic called "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story." Thirteen years later, the hilarious sketch is getting the cinematic treatment it deserves. Director Eric...

Flashback: The ‘Reality Bites’ Gang Lose It to ‘My Sharona’ in a Gas Station
Ben Stiller
Happy 25th anniversary to Reality Bites, the movie that not only defined Generation X but made it cool to make out to “Baby, I Love Your Way” while slurping a Big Gulp. Ben Stiller’s directorial debut encapsulated what it was like to be a twenty-something in 1994, from Gap promotions and toilet-paper coffee filters to AIDS scares and coming out to your family.

One of the most memorable scenes in the film is when the gang gets stoned and Lelaina (Winona Ryder) suggests they purchase food with her father’s gas card.

Even The 'My Sharona' Guys Piling It On Disgraced CEO
By P.J. Huffstutter

Chicago, July 27 (Reuters) - Russell R. Wasendorf Sr., chief executive of Peregrine Financial Group, who was arrested earlier this month after confessing to bilking customers for 20 years, is accused of stealing something else: a rock and roll tune.

On Friday, attorneys for the 1970s rock band The Knack -- famous for its song "My Sharona" -- sent a cease and desist letter to Wasendorf and his now-shuttered Italian restaurant MyVerona in Cedar Falls, Iowa, to stop him from using a re-recording of the tune as part of the eatery's online advertising campaign.

The restaurant had used the song, with the chorus modified to "M-m-m-My Verona," for several years as a theme song on its web site and other online venues, according to local residents and former company employees.

Among other things, the song served as a soundtrack to a video montage shot inside the restaurant, including...

Welcome to the 224th Edition of my blog series. This week I pay tribute to the late lead singer of the Knack Doug Fieger and producer David Brown. I am very excited for the March 2nd release of Peter Gabriel's new album Scratch My Back where he does remakes to twelve of his favorites with the use of an orchestra and his voice. Heidi Montag Wants to Massage Your Ears With Two New Songs (Video)
Fear not; though we were all devastated by the passing of Knack frontman Doug Fieger earlier this week, the art of crafting classic, timeless pop definitely lives on. Need some proof? Hills vixen Heidi Montag has graced the world with not one, but two new songs today, because she loves us all and wants us to be happy. And dancing. "Trash Me" issues a stern warning to the haters who would tarnish Montag's meteoric rise to world domination with their negativity, while "Sex Ed" is a bawdy little romp that promises a wealth of carnal knowledge to any lucky man who...

Lead Singer of The Knack Dies at Age 57
Doug Fieger, lead singer for the popular 1980's musical group The Knack, has died. After a six year battle with cancer and two brain surgeries, 57 year old Fieger succumbed to the disease at his home in Woodland Hills, California on Sunday, according to the band's manager Jake Hooker. Fieger was best known for singing the mega-hit song My Sharona back in 1979, one year after the band was formed in L.A. The song was #1 on the Billboard Pop Chart for six weeks, and became a pop culture phenomenon. Although The Knack enjoyed huge success with other songs like Frustrated, Good Girls Don't, and She's So Selfish, My Sharona was their ultimate staple, maintaining a steady presence on FM radio. Even though the band continued to produce albums through the early 2000's, they never repeated the popularity they achieved in the 1980's. The Knack appeared on the scene at a time...

Doug Fieger, Frontman for the Knack, Dies at 57
Doug Fieger of "The Knack"
Doug Fieger, power pop hitmaker for the Knack, has died at 57 in his Woodland Hills, Calif., home. Best known for the 1979 No. 1 smash "My Sharona," the singer-songwriter had reportedly been battling lung and brain cancer for years. "Sharona" was an obsessively catchy track about one of Fieger's real-life girlfriends, and the bouncy cut off the band's debut album, Get the Knack, scored another jolt of fame in the mid '90s when it appeared on the Reality Bites soundtrack. In January, in one of Fieger's last interviews, the Detroit-born rocker sounded at peace when he told the Detroit News: "Everybody knows they're going sooner or later. I don't know any better than...

She was very self-assured. ... She also...

Doug Fieger, lead singer of the Knack, dies of cancer
Doug Fieger, lead singer of the Knack, died today following a long battle with cancer. He was 57. The Detroit News, Fieger’s hometown paper, has all the details here. The Knack were great purveyors of power pop. They never rose to the heights of a Cheap Trick or the Raspberries, but for a short time they knew how to combine the perfect pop melody and beat with just the right amount of bite. Think about “My Sharona” or “Good Girls Don’t,” the band’s two biggest hits. “My Sharona” was No. 1 for six weeks in 1979. It’s impossible not to hear...
