Last seen in Mani Ratnam’s Ok Kanmani, Malayalam heartthrob Dulquer Salmaan is all set to take Tamil filmdom by storm once again. After recently signing Mahanati, the Savitri biopic in which he plays the role of Gemini Ganesan , he has bagged his fourth Tamil project, to be directed by debutant Ra. Karthik. Apparently, the film is a travel-based script and the young director has been in talks with Dulquer for over a year.

With the project slated to go on the floors in December, the makers are in the process of finalising the rest of the cast.

The first programming has been revealed for the 20th annual Fantasia International Film Festival. Ar Rahman has announced plans to perform a one-off 'Greatest Hits' show in London in August.

His appearance at The O2 will be his first show in the UK for five years.

He will be joined by a number of guests on the night including Srinivas, Karthik, Shweta Mohan, Neeti Mohan and Javed Ali.

The musician has sold more than 100 million records of his film scores, and has received numerous awards including two Academy Awards in 2009 for his work on Slumdog Millionaire.

He has worked on over 100 films including Lagaan, Bombay, Dil Se, Rang De Basanti and Rockstar, as well as the Andrew Lloyd-Webber-produced West End musical Bombay Dreams.

The composer also provided the score for Danny Boyle's 127 Hours and Disney's Million Dollar Arm and is currently working on Pelé, a biopic of the football legend.

The announcement follows a hugely successful intimate American tour and saw Ar Rahman, performs in multiple concert halls.

Subhash Ghai is currently touring the country with the lead actors in his upcoming film Kaanchi. The Showman, along with Mishti and Kartik Aaryan, is visiting 9 cities, attending and organizing events.

Starting with Bhopal, the trio was at a mall to interact with media where Ghai spoke about what kept him away from filmmaking for five years. “After Yuvvraaj I spent three years exclusively dedicated to my school Whistling Woods. Thereafter, one year was spent in writing a script and another one and half year in making the movie. I plunge into filmmaking only when I am satisfied with the script,’ said Ghai.

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has finally locked a release date for his new movie Kaanchi - it will hit the screens April 11.

The film, which stars Ghai’s latest find Mishti and actor Kartik Aryan along with veterans Mithun Chakraborty and Rishi Kapoor, is about inner power of a woman who represents millions of suppressed youth against injustice in the country, said a statement issued by the filmmaker’s banner Mukta Arts.

The film is directed and produced by Ghai, and its musical score is done by Ismail Darbar and Salim-Suleiman with lyrics by Irshad Kamil.

Subhash Ghai’s Kaanchi to be released on April 11.

Desperate for a directorial hit since the 1999 Aishwarya Rai-starrer Taal, Bollywood’s original ‘showman’ Subhash Ghai will be back to film direction with a multi-starrer this year.

After the Anil Kapoor-Aishwarya Rai starrer Taal, all his directorial ventures – Yaadein, Kisna: The Warrior Poet, Black & White and Yuvvraaj - have bombed at the box-office despite having a formidable casting.

“That is past now, I have a lot of hopes riding on this new film,” Ghai said, who runs the film production and distribution company Mukta Arts.

“Art and commerce – both are involved when I think of making a film. If the film is too arty and cannot be made for the general audience, then I have to think twice,” he said when asked about what kind of a film he is about to direct.

A member of the Kaanchi team tells us, “It was a very emotional moment for Subhashji.

Chennai, Jan 14: Southern actor Dhanush will miss Pongal celebrations Tuesday, due to his upcoming Tamil thriller "Anegan" shooting. But he says he is enjoying working with the film's director K.V. Anand.

"(I'm) missing the festival mood since I'm shooting in Hyderabad for 'Anegan'. But (I'm) enjoying the shoot. (The) very hard working K.V. Anand sir inspiring the whole unit," Dhanush posted on his Twitter page Monday night.

Dhanush is paired opposite Amyra Dastur in the film, which also features veteran Tamil actor Karthik in a prominent role.

The girl, Mishti, is seen wearing Subhash Ghai’s signature hat in the photo, taken during the shoot of the film. Subhash Ghai who took the picture himself, expressed how Mishti wanted him to face the camera. The director, instead, chose to stay behind the camera and click his leading lady for his fans. He said, “My heroine Mishti wearing my hat on the sets of Kaanchi, insists me to appear in front of camera, instead I take her picture for you (the fans).”

Kartik Tiwari will next be seen in Subhash Ghai’s Kaanchi that has created much curiosity with its poster. Subhash Ghai returns to direction after a hiatus of five years with this ambitious project. Ghai had last directed the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Yuvvraaj. Ghai has been a wonderful mentor to Kartik, who plays the male lead in Kaanchi. Talking about his shooting experience, the actors says, “We shot in Nainital for 15-20 days and it felt like a picnic. The place was beautiful and we’d end up partying every day. But we also worked very hard”. Elaborating on the showman of Bollywood, he adds, “Subhash sir is very clear with what he wants. He saw to it that we completed our daily schedule on time. I don’t know how he managed that. This was my first experience with him and he’s happy with the entire cast.

The soundtrack of "Settai", the Tamil remake of the adult comedy "Delhi Belly", doesn't have the cuss words and expletives of the original. The songs are catchy, hilarious and, most importantly, short. Each song is less than four minutes, and therefore holds the attention of the listener.

The opening track "Agalardhey agalardhey" by Megha and Vijay Prakash is one of the most popular songs of the album. Effervescent voices of the singers are strongly backed by extended bass beats played throughout the song, while the mellow tune of the synthesiser.

Looking back at 2012 song-ically, it certainly was a year of cool sounds, new voices, groovy and groovin’ beats and over all some killer tracks. Many of the songs brought a new vibe to the music of the movies, songs flavored with new influences, and songs that we never would have thought we would hear in a Bollywood flick. Hyderabad, Nov 15: The upcoming romantic movie in Tamil titled "Tamilselvanum Thaniyar Anjalum" has finally found the female lead in form of Yami Gupta for the film. The film's male lead had already been decided but the makers were looking for the lady. Jai is playing the hero in the film, while Yami Gautham has been finalized to be the heroine. Sometime back it was heard, Ananya might be the female lead, but that did not happen. Music of the film has been composed by Karthik and the movie will be directed by Prem Sai.

The cast also includes Santhanam, Saranya Ponvannan, Sricharan and Vtv Ganesh. This is the maiden directorial venture of Prem.

Chennai, Sep 19: Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam's upcoming Tamil film "Kadal" will be dubbed in Telugu as "Kadali".

The makers of the movie have confirmed it will be titled "Kadali" in Telugu, and will be dubbed for simultaneous release.

"Kadal", which is set on a coastal village of Tamil Nadu, stars debutants Gautham Karthik, son of yesteryear actor Karthik, and Thulasi Nair, daughter of actress Radha, in lead roles.

Actors Arjun and Aravind Swamy will be seen in important roles.

Technicians such as editor Sreekar Prasad, cinematographer Rajiv Menon have also been roped in to be part of the film, while the music will be composed by A.R. Rahman.

New Delhi, June 5: "Pyaar Ka Punchnama" was 2011's small budget surprise-turned-hit. However, as fans eagerly wait for its sequel, director Luv Ranjan says they would have to wait until next year.

"I am not making it currently. I will be making it next year," Ranjan told Ians.

Sonam Kapoor will not be making her debut down south, as she has decided not to go ahead with Mani Ratnam’s new Tamil movie, which is debuting Tamil actor Karthik’s son Gautham. Mumbai, Feb 21: After "Saubhagyavati Bhava", popular TV actress Urvashi Dholakia is set to do a cameo in a special episode of show "Mrs. Kaushik Ki Paanch Bahuien".

She will play Savitri Devi, aka Savvy, a high flying socialite match-maker, who is always on the prowl looking for eligible bachelors or eager brides-to-be.

Remakes don’t necessarily have to be a bad thing; some can be good, or at least have a point to them. Unfortunately Ekk Deewana Tha, Gautham Menon’s remake of his own hit Tamil film, is not a film that serves any purpose.

Sachin (Prateik) studied mechanical engineering, but decides he wants to be a filmmaker, and so much to the dislike of his father, sets out to start a career as a director. One day he meets Jessie (Amy Jackson) and immediately falls in love with her, bordering on an obsessive extent. The problem is he is a Hindu, and she’s an orthodox Malayali Christian, and her family would never accept him or his career in films.

Love is the most simple and also the most complicated emotion. Complicated further by people and society. Which is why the simple boy-girl-meet-fall-in-love premise has been able to offer so many storylines to abundant moviemakers. 1. Pyaar Ka Punchnama: The year’s sleeper success that kept us awake for a good 2 hours with its celluloid anthem of ribtickling misogyny. Three room-mates and their troubled love relationships formed the core of the comic conflict. Every character and each episode spilled over with a delightful déjà vu. Debutant director Luv Ranjan managed a 3-guys-in-a-sexist-soup comedy much better than Madhur Bhandarkar in Dil To Bachcha Hai Ji. And the director did it with untried actors. Popular Bollywood matinee idol, producer and film-maker

The Indian actor, producer and film-maker Dev Anand, who has died aged 88, was the first and longest serving matinee idol of Bollywood cinema. The pinnacle of his career came with Guide (1965), a film based on Rk Narayan's novel, in which Dev played the male lead opposite the classical Indian dancer turned actor Waheeda Rehman. Dev's talented younger brother Vijay directed it. During the golden age of Indian cinema, in the 1950s and 1960s, Dev, along with Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar, formed the trio of stars who dominated the silver screen. Dev's urbanity and quirky mannerisms made him especially popular among the young and women.

He was born in undivided India at Gurdaspur, in the Punjab region. His father, Pishorimal Anand, was a leading lawyer. After graduating from the prestigious Government College, in Lahore, Dev tried and failed to enter the Royal Indian Navy.

Kartik Tiwari and Nushrat Bharucha, who played a live-in couple in the surprise hit Pyaar Ka Punchnama earlier this year, are all set to once again star together. The duo feature yet again in director Luv Ranjan's next tentatively titled Aakashwani. Confirming the same to Bollywood Hungama, Kartik said, "Yes, I am looking forward to once again work with Nushrat and Luv after Pyaar Ka Punchnama. It's a romantic film with good amount of humour and is tentatively called Aakashwani. We start shooting end of this month." Hope Kartik and Nushrat are able to once again re-create the same chemistry which they shared in Pyaar Ka Punchnama.

Ar Rahman seemed like a novel choice for scoring the music of Rockstar. We all love his Sufi tinged numbers and techno pop songs, but with an album like Rockstar the listener and fan has to go in with an interesting set of expectations. Will Rahman be any good at composing full on rock tracks as comfortably as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy did for Rock On? Certainly from the exciting promos of the film, with Ranbir looking like a grungy rocker singing with Mohit Chauhan’s gritty voice. From the snippets of the songs, they immediately hooked you in and told a gradual evolution of the titular Rockstar’s roots of Sufi soft rock to full-blown grunge in Sadda Haq. Certainly, a lot is riding on the music to Rockstar, as critics weren’t fans of Rahman’s last outing in Robot, and Imtiaz Ali is testing waters with a new composer for such an awaited film.

The season of remakes continues with Force which stars John Abraham and Genelia D’Souza in lead roles. The film’s a remake of Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha starring Surya (Rakht Charitra) and Joytika (Doli Sajake Rakhna) which was also remade in Telugu as Gharsana. While the Tamil and Telugu versions were directed by Gautum Menon, the Hindi remake is being directed by Nishikanth Kamath (Mumbai Meri Jaan). One thing that remains the same is that Harris Jayaraj (Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein) who has composed for original and the Telugu remake, has also composed and produced the music of Force. Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics.
