Amazon – via its Prime Video service — just can't get enough of the superhero satire, bloody carnage and sexually inappropriate behaviour of The Boys. Not content with the original main series, college-set live-action spin-off Gen V (which was recently renewed for a second season) and animated series Diabolical, the company is now in the early stages of developing a Mexican version of the show, with :a[Blue Beetle]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/blue-beetle/' }'s Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer attached to write the initial script.
Few details have been revealed about the new show adapted from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's comic books, save that it'll be set in Mexico City.
Far more intriguing is who might be involved — while The Boys main executive producers Erik Kripke, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver would all have a credit, Variety reports that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal are...

"The Boys" universe is continuing to expand — and now the franchise is headed to Mexico. That's right! Amazon MGM Studios is now developing another show in the ever-growing universe based on the comic books by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson titled "The Boys: Mexico." While it's still in the very early stages, the show has assembled a pretty impressive team behind the scenes to get the ball rolling.
According to Deadline, Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is set to write and executive produce the new Mexican-set spin-off. What's more, Gabriel Luna ("Andor") and Gael García Bernal ("Werewolf by Night") are also on board as executive producers and might also appear on screen, though they wouldn't be taking on major roles. Plot details for the series currently remain under wraps but the report states that the series is expected to eventually film in Mexico, rather than in the U.S. or Canada, for example.

With season four on the way and college-set spinoff “Gen V” recently wrapped, the ultra-violent world of “The Boys“ is about to become even bigger yet. Deadline reports today that new spinoff series “The Boys: Mexico” is in the works.
The latest offshoot will hail from Blue Beetle scribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, with Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal set to executive produce.
No plot details have been announced as of yet, and Luna and Bernal are considering appearing in “The Boys: Mexico” in smaller roles. In other words, don’t expect them to star in the series. What is confirmed is that “The Boys: Mexico” will film in Mexico.
Considering the cameos and tie-ins to “The Boys” featured in offshoot “Gen V,” it feels safe to assume that “The Boys: Mexico” will also feature references and characters to its parent series.

The world of “The Boys” could soon be expanding to Mexico.
According to sources, Amazon is currently developing a Spanish-language spinoff of their popular dark superhero series based on the Garth Ennis/Darick Robertson comic books that would be set in Mexico City. Exact plot details remain under wraps.
Like “The Boys,” it would be produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Sources say that Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is attached to write. Dunnet-Alcocer most recently wrote the screenplay for the DC film “Blue Beetle” starring Xolo Maridueña. “The Boys” creator Erik Kripke would executive produce via Kripke Enterprises along with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures, and Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film. Sources also say that Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal would executive produce under their La Corriente del Golfo banner, though deals are still being worked out on the series.

With every passing season, Amazon Prime’s adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darrick Robertson’s The Boys seems to be playing “can you top this?” in terms of going where no other heroic series has not dared to go.
The third season, out on disc just months before the fourth season drops, mainly focuses on the increasingly callous Homelander (Antony Star) fighting Starlight (Erin Moriarty) for the heart and soul of The Seven. When Vought named her co-leader, he was far from thrilled and let everyone know. The group of underground heroes – led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) trying to take down Homelander and expose their sponsor’s corruption almost seems sidelined this season.
There were interesting twists and turns across the eight episodes, such as Butcher’s protégé Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) working with Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) at the Fbsa (Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs). His romance with Starlight remains rocky,...

About The Boys
The Boys is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes—who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians, and as revered as gods—abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Intent on stopping the corrupt superheroes, The Boys, a group of vigilantes, continue their heroic quest to expose the truth about The Seven and Vought—the multibillion-dollar conglomerate that manages the superheroes and covers up their dirty secrets.

While we're sure many fans of The Boys were happy with the outrageous levels of gore and violence (and satire) of :a[Gen V]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/tv/reviews/gen-v-season-1/' }, there's no true substitute for the parent series' story and characters, as seen — spoiler alert for anyone who has yet to watch the college-set spin-off — with the appearance of Homelander (Anthony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) in the season finale. Prime Video wants to keep The Boys in our minds, so two new posters are online, one featuring a triumphant Homelander, the other a defeated-looking Billy.
The series, adapted from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's graphic novels, has pushed the boundaries of subverting the superhero genre, with the powered people the public reveres as heroes revealed to be something much less noble. Butcher's team, the titular Boys, meanwhile, are dedicated to keeping them in line. Yet the lines,...

Comicbook writer Garth Ennis, best known for series such as “Preacher” and “The Boys,” and his nine-year stint at Marvel, is a guest of this week’s Lucca Comics & Games. Ennis, whose current work includes comedy Barbarian strip “Babs,” and the latest instalments of the “Battle Action” and “Punisher” series, spoke about his new book “Partisan,” as well as diverse topics including religion and war.
“[In ‘Partisan’], Steve [Epting] and I explored a similar territory to that of ‘Sara.’ It’s about a woman who finds herself caught in the fighting between Russian partisans and the German invaders in Ukraine from 1942 onwards,” Ennis said.
“Our heroine, with her husband having been called up by the army, finds herself raising two kids alone. Caught in this conflict, she joins the partisans for no other reason than keeping her kids alive. She finds herself doing the most extreme things, purely in the interest of her family.

This post contains spoilers for the season 1 finale of "Gen V."
"The Boys" has been praised for the way showrunner Eric Kripke and the rest of the writers' room have successfully adapted Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's popular comic book series to more accurately reflect our constantly shifting cultural landscape. Many of the plot points and references are pulled straight from the headlines, with promises that the upcoming season 4 will directly tackle even more real-world themes. Considering season 3 ended with Homelander literally living out the claim of the twice-impeached, found legally liable for sexual abuse and defamation, and feloniously indicted former president Trump's statement "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters," it certainly seems like the show is heading toward dissecting not only the people who will do anything to stop him but also those who have been dangerously radicalized by his actions.

Don't make promises you can't keep. That was a pivotal and emotionally-charged lesson learned by the Master Chief in the first-person shooter video game "Halo 2," which has absolutely nothing to do with the subject of this article beyond this painfully forced segue. But "The Boys" creator Eric Kripke has taken that same lesson to heart, as he's no longer sticking to his original plan for the most irreverent superhero series ever to grace the streaming airwaves. In short, expect "The Boys" to keep going for as long as the writers can justify the continuing adventures of Karl Urban's Billy Butcher, Antony Starr's vicious Homelander, and all the other fan-favorite misfits.

Jensen Ackles's Soldier Boy is still lurking about in the "Boys" universe. The gory, parody superhero show welcomed him to the Supe crew in season three, which aired in the summer of 2022, though he makes a brief, profanity-filled appearance in the spinoff series "Gen V"'s sixth episode, which debuted on Oct. 20. The Vought superhero is a twisted take on another classic American comic hero, who arrived to stir up an all-out war amongst the Boys and the Supes, both old and new, in "The Boys"'s third installment.
He's nearly killed in an explosion in the season three finale but survives, only to end up being shipped off to a new cryo-chamber by the CIA. Still, he exists in the "Gen V" timeline, this time, as an imaginary friend to Maddie Phillips's Cate.

This article contains spoilers for "Gen V" episode 6.
Part of the reason Prime Video's "The Boys" has been acclaimed is the ways it has adapted its source material, a satirical superhero gore-fest by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The comic has its moments of pathos, but it's mostly just a vile splatterfest. There's so much bad taste abound in the 72 issues that it often makes you wish your brain could spit it out.
"The Boys" TV series (developed by Eric Kripke) keeps the violence and dark humor, but it sharpens the comic's genre critique while updating it for modern politics. The superheroes of "The Boys" are still stand-ins for the rot of corporate America and celebrity culture. However, the TV show explores its characters with more sincerity (take the musical scene in episode 5). Kripke's "The Boys" doesn't laugh at its characters (at least not the leads) in the same way that Ennis' does.

“Expanding the universe of The Boys with a series as bold as Gen V has been an incredible journey for us and our wonderful partners at Sony. From our first conversation with showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, along with Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen, we knew Gen V would push the boundaries. Their unapologetic approach is exactly what audiences love, and it has helped Gen V become the No. 1 series on Prime Video in over 130 countries,” said Vernon Sanders,...

The renewal arrives ahead of the Season 1 finale, scheduled to air on November 3 on Prime Video. While the Season 2 renewal is unsurprising, it’s welcomed news in the face of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike and a general air of uncertainty circulating throughout the film and television arenas.
