Spoiler alert: This article contains major reveals from the season finale of Notorious. Unlike that headstrong Julia George, you might want to proceed with caution.
Thursday’s Notorious season finale ended on a surprisingly high note, with Jake & Co. liberating Julia from El Toro and returning to Los Angeles in one piece — until the episode’s final moments, when we learned that Maya Hart has (presumably) committed suicide.

Sexting scandals? Sexual assault? Beheading? Notorious Season 1 Episode 3 went full throttle and already threw into question Julia's character, as well as Oscar's best friend and business partner's.
What do you do when your news anchor, for the first time in eight years, asks you not to run a story and is very adamant about it?
If you're Julia George, you throw it in unexpected, consequences be damned. The unfortunate side of her character. She's a badass, a tough boss, and someone to aspire to be, but her character is... questionable.
Why the booze, why the drugs, why the endless parade of men? If you weren't so busy looking down on me, you'd understand. Life is short, and I don't believe in luck anymore.

Who killed Sarah Keaton?
Notorious Season 1 Episode 1 builds the groundwork for this overarching story of the season and provides just enough leeway that we see how the other episodes will work.
I'll always miss CIA Agent Annie Walker, but Julia George is great in her own way. We don't know where she's come from, but she has clearly clawed her way to the top and will do whatever it takes to stay there, though surprisingly, she's not mean.
Julia: I'm not sure I can do this.
Louise: You're a tough ass bitch, you can do anything.

She's blunt, focused, and determined, but she's not purposefully mean, and she won't go behind the backs of everyone around her. Her partnership with Jake is a sign of this because, even as she keeps the facade that she is blind-siding him,...

You couldn’t script some of the things Wendy Walker experienced as a live news producer at CNN. But now, the new ABC drama “Notorious” aims to do just that.
The series, which launches Thursday night, stars Piper Perabo as a TV news producer who develops a friendship and alliance with a superstar defense attorney (Daniel Sunjata). The show is inspired by Walker’s lengthy CNN career and her pal, real-life defense attorney Mark Geragos.

Walker admits she was taken aback at first of how her “Notorious” character handled things (like, say, having sex in her office right before the live telecast). But she soon adjusted to the world of dramatized television.
The veteran news producer spent 32 years at CNN (including 18 of those as executive producer of “Larry King Live”), focusing on breaking news and other live coverage.

As the television world exists now, one of the main pushes we see from every network is an effort to sub-brand itself as having a “kind of show.” That’s a slightly convoluted way of saying that the networks think fans of one of their shows look for a similar “feel” from the next show. If a new show were thrown at you, they want you to be able to guess who is going to air it.
With that in mind, there’s an extent to which it’s hard to blame ABC for Notorious. It had to seem like a good Shondaland fit, and it looks decent on paper. You do you ABC.
If you throw in Josh Berman (Bones, Drop Dead Diva, The Blacklist) as creator, so much the better.
The trouble is that the world of laughable melodrama, and/or purposeful guilty pleasures that are overwrought with contrivance as a writing style,...

Whether you believe we’re living in a time of “peak TV,” in which content overload will supposedly destroy the industry, or whether you think there can never be too much programming, one thing is for sure: If you want to sell a show to an audience, you’d better make damn sure you catch their attention. Using that logic, ABC’s new drama “Notorious” can perhaps be forgiven for trying to hit every dramatic trope possible in a 40-odd minute span. There’s the high-pressure TV newsroom and the successful producer Julia George (Piper Perabo) who is tasked with getting all the big.

According to movies and TV, at least, sex and journalism go hand in hand. It’s a recognizable stereotype—pop culture frequents the archetypical hard-hitting reporter who boinks their way to one big scoop after another—but it goes completely against the basic ethical principles to which real life journalists must hold themselves. Sure, a dedicated journo often needs to be pushy to get a tough source to crack, but it’s high crime to sleep one’s way through the red tape, even if it helps bring truths to the public.
ABC’s Notorious builds its entire plot on illicit relationships between the media and their subjects. There isn’t a single character in this show that takes the adage “don’t sleep where you work” to heart, but that’s actually what makes the show great.

Annie Walker is back, y'all!
Okay, no, not really, but we can dream, right? Instead, Piper Perabo is stepping into her newest role on Notorious as big-shot television news producer, Julia George, as she and her hidden lawyer partner Jake use the media to twist the narrative they want to tell, and build the ratings her show thrives on.
In a way, Julia is embracing her inner Annie Walker and using common sense and intuition to keep twists interesting on her show as she oversees a, for lack of a better word, loose and fun-loving news anchor.
Her personal life takes a hit in the premiere which will leave her focused more on the bigger mystery that threatens to take over Jake's life, and in turn, Julia's.
Notorious Season 1 Episode 1 premieres Thursday, September 22 at 9/8c on ABC!

Fall television is weeks away. Do you know what you'll be watching? We're here to help.
We're going to break down the 2016-17 offerings by network and give our first impressions, reasons to watch and share thoughts on the competition.
Conviction - Mondays at 10/9c - Premieres October 3
First Impression: Conviction isn't groundbreaking television. It has a legal procedural element, a dribble of politics and a hint of family drama.
Conviction follows the life of a woman who is well known to the public, who is always waiting for her to screw up.
As the former first daughter of the United States, Hayes Morrison is that daughter, played by Hayley Atwell.
The entire time I watched, I kept picturing someone named Haze. After all, she's a bit (more than a big) of a bad girl.
The job she takes is her penance. The work is thematic after the success of Making of a Murderer.
