Kelce, who recently retired from the Philadelphia Eagles, is heading to ESPN to be part of its Monday Night Countdown pregame show, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to Deadline. The show is currently hosted by Scott Van Pelt and a panel including Robert Griffin III, Adam Schefter, Ryan Clark, Marcus Spears and Michelle Beisner-Buck.
The deal is expected to be announced during the ESPN/Disney upfront presentation to advertisers on May 14. ESPN declined comment.

During the press conference, Kelce reminisced about what drew him to the sport that saw him win the Super Bowl back in 2018.

Jason Kelce has landed at ESPN.
The former Philadelphia Eagles center has signed with the Disney-owned sports giant to work on its Monday Night Countdown NFL pregame show, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Kelce’s landing pad has been one of the hottest questions of the NFL offseason, with multiple TV partners pursuing him.
Kelce participated in last year’s NFL broadcast boot camp, where the league helps train current and former players in the ins and outs of broadcasting. Kelce was seen as a star performer in that boot camp.
Monday Night Countdown, the pregame show for ESPN Monday Night Football, already has a top-shelf talent list, including Scott Van Pelt, Robert Griffin III and Larry Fitzgerald. During the games themselves, ESPN has Joe Buck and Troy Aikman leading the main broadcast, with Peyton and Eli Manning leading an alternative telecast.

No matter who prevails next Sunday at the NCAA’s championship game, 2024’s March Madness will go down in history as a milestone moment for women’s sports. Not just in the college basketball realm — but for female athletes overall.
In a perfect storm, the annual bracket-bonkers frenzy around the NCAA college basketball tournament has conferred a level of respect to the women’s game that is rarely been seen across sports media, but for the quadrennial exception of the Women’s World Cup. It’s happening this year for all the right reasons – basically, math and gravity. The games have been too good to ignore and the stats put up by such players as the University of Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, Louisiana State University’s Angel Reese, USC’s freshman phenom JuJu Watkins and University of Connecticut’s Paige Bueckers are too eye-popping to not analyze.

Sports Illustrated‘s stunning mass layoffs Friday, which cast doubt on the future of the 70-year-old media stalwart, have prompted waves of emotional reaction across social media.
The Arena Group told the entire staff their jobs were being eliminated after Authentic Brands Group, which licenses the Si name, suspended that license to publish due to a missed payment of about $3.75 million.
It isn’t yet clear what the ultimate fate of Si will be, but it has been thrown into uncertainty. Sports Illustrated Union and The NewsGuild of New York issued a statement vowing to fight for the workers. “We have fought together as a union to maintain the standard of this storied publication that we love, and to make sure our workers are treated fairly for the value they bring to this company. It is a fight we will continue,” Mitch Goldich, NFL editor and unit chair at The NewsGuild of New York said.

The roller coaster of ESPN staffing news continued today, as NFL analyst Mina Kimes is set for what’s reported to be a massive new deal. The agreement is worth more than $1.7 million, according to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, and puts Kimes over seven figures for the first time.
“Kimes’ role with ESPN will basically stay the same,” reported Marchand. She will be featured on NFL Live and make other appearances on the network’s shows.
Additionally, Dan Le Batard announced this morning that Kimes had signed a new deal with former ESPN boss John Skipper’s Meadowlark Media. She will continue to appear on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz.”
Kimes will also reportedly continue her podcast, which is produced by Omaha Productions as part of the Peyton Manning-led company’s partnership with ESPN.

“I’ve been doing this a long time where, look, I don’t want to do that forever,” Scott Van Pelt said in June of his perch at SportsCenter. “At some point you just gotta step aside and let somebody else have it.”
Well, now we know what that next step might look like for Van Pelt.
The longtime ESPN anchor will become the new host of Monday Night Countdown, the network’s popular NFL pregame show. He replaces Suzy Kolber, who had hosted the program since 2015 but was let go last month in a wave of layoffs.
Pundits are speculating that the move puts Van Pelt in line to host the Super Bowl when and if the network and corporate cousin ABC land it.
Per ESPN, Van Pelt will keep his day – er – night job.

After 22 years as one of the top anchors at ESPN’s flagship SportsCenter franchise, Scott Van Pelt says he sees the end in sight.
“I’ve been doing this a long time where, look, I don’t want to do that forever,” Van Pelt said on the Si Media With Jimmy Traina podcast. “And that would lead to the natural, ‘What would you want to do?’ I don’t know. I don’t know.”
Van Pelt has been the solo host of the network’s midnight Et SportsCenter since 2015, where he presides over post-game interviews and delivers his brand of thoughtful, often passionate commentary.
Even given that declaration, Van Pelt emphasized, “I still enjoy it.”
Van Pelt offered a recent example from this year’s NBA Finals as the Denver Nuggets celebrated their victory.

This wasn’t supposed to be Joe Buck’s first assignment for ESPN.
The veteran sports announcer raised eyebrows earlier this year by jumping from his longtime roost at Fox Sports to the Disney sports giant, where he and colleague Troy Aikman are set to host “Monday Night Football.” On Thursday afternoon, however, Buck was doing something completely different. Here he was, sitting alongside golf analyst Michael Collins on ESPN2, watching Tiger Woods on the green at the 2022 PGA Championship and talking to baseball great Ken Griffey Jr. about his golf and baseball swings.
Even though the setting is relaxed and informal, it poses a challenge for Buck. “I have to remind myself the whole time it’s not what I typically do,” he says in an interview. “I have to kind of turn off the gene that I have that wants to be on top of all the action.

ESPN executives have been trying since 2018 to convince Peyton Manning to join the in-studio broadcast team for their flagship “Monday Night Football.” Now they may be happier that he turned down those overtures.
That’s because the retired NFL quarterback has gained traction with an alternate “Monday Night Football” telecast for ESPN2 that he began hosting with his younger brother, Eli, another former all-star Qb, in September. The stakes couldn’t be higher for ESPN, the NFL or the TV business — even though the decidedly low-tech broadcast, which quickly came to be known as “ManningCast,” feels like a cross between hanging out in a sports bar and a glorified Zoom session.
The brothers have held forth for 10 Monday nights during the 2021 NFL season, offering live banter and crosstalk alongside the same feed of the game being broadcast on ESPN and sometimes ABC. Football fans who want traditional play-by-play game coverage...

After moving up the premiere date for the much-anticipated documentary series about Michael Jordan and the 1990s Chicago Bulls to this Sunday, ESPN plans to air two versions of the ten-part project: one, with all the athletes’ rough language intact, will air on the company’s flagship cable network; the other, with profanity edited out, will air simultaneously on ESPN2.
“We take a lot of pride in sports as a communal viewing experience. All members of the family get to watch this,” says Connor Schell, executive vice president of content at ESPN, in an interview. “We felt this was the right thing to do.” Hearing the unedited interviews, he adds, “makes it feel more honest and more authentic and raw.”

ESPN, struggling to keep fresh programming on its schedule with live sports sidelined by the coronavirus pandemic, is asking some of its best-known personalities to take pay cuts.
“We are asking about 100 of our commentators to join with our executives and take a temporary salary reduction. These are challenging times and we are all in this together,” the Disney-owned sports-media giant said in a statement. Sports Business Journal previously disclosed the cuts.
The salary reductions are likely to affect the network’s highest-paid commentators, who include personalities like Stephen A. Smith and Mike Greenberg. ESPN is seeking cuts of 15%, and would encompass three months of pay cycles, according to a person familiar with the matter. Executives hope the pay cuts will tamp down a need for furloughs, and keep paychecks intact for lower-paid ESPN employees who don’t earn the types of salaries that the big-name personalities do.

Disney’s upfront presentation on Tuesday at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall amounted to the second half of the starry unveiling of its Television Universe.
The two-hour-plus showcase came on a month after the April 11 showcase of plans for the Disney Plus streaming service, which came less than a month after Disney completed its historic acquisition of 21st Century Fox.
Last month’s Disney Plus presentation was geared to investors, part of Disney’s bid to reshape the Wall Street narrative around traditional media giants as the world’s largest media company marshals its brand forces. Tuesday’s razzle-dazzle was aimed at Madison Avenue, reinforcing the importance of — and Disney’s exposure to — the domestic TV advertising market to the health of the company’s overall business.

FX reveals Chris Rock’s “Fargo” character name: There’s still plenty of secrecy behind Noah Hawley’s long-awaited fourth season of “Fargo,” but we now know the name of the character that Rock will be playing: Loy Cannon. ESPN emphasized its talent stable, consistency and strong parent company during its annual upfronts pitch to ad buyers at the Minskoff Theatre, home of Disney’s Lion King musical.
Much of the event felt familiar, but it was also the first upfront since president John Skipper abruptly resigned, his place taken by Jimmy Pitaro. Along with that management change, the company also reorganized and streamlined its sales efforts to account for changing viewer habits and ongoing erosion in full-day linear ratings. “Before I took the job here, I was already a lifelong fan,” Pitaro told the crowd. “I had a personal relationship with this company for many years.” Today, he added, “no one has our unique combination of strengths.

At its inaugural Digital Content NewFronts event in New York, ESPN outlined three more original shows coming to Twitter, which comes under Disney’s broad-based ad and content pact with Twitter announced earlier this week.
In addition, it teased the upcoming debut of “Always Late With Katie Nolan,” hosted by the ESPN host and personality who joined the network last fall from Fox Sports.
The daily edition of “SportsCenter” will be coming to the ESPN App, available free to watch. The videos in the app will be featured on users’ home screen every morning, when they open the app. The cut-down digital adaptation of “SportsCenter,” featuring Scott Van Pelt and other “Sc” anchors,...

Michelle Beadle just spent a good chunk of time verbally sparring with professional wrestler Ronda Rousey. She’s got another battle looming on Monday morning.
Beadle, the veteran ESPN sportscaster, will team up with popular ESPN radio host Mike Greenberg and former pro-basketball player Jalen Rose to help the Walt Disney-backed sports network open a new front: “Get Up,” a morning show that aims to deliver sports with a little something extra. Or maybe not. But probably.
Can we get back to you in a few weeks?
“Failure is not an option,” says Rose, holding forth in a brand-new studio ESPN designed in Manhattan’s South Street Seaport. “Yes it is,” cracks Beadle, responding to her co-host. “But it’s sort of out of our control.” The set is festooned with neon signs, giant wall screens and a spiral staircase. Viewers will be able to see the sun rise over...

The 2018 Producers Guild Awards were presented on Saturday night, January 20. These are the 29th annual kudos celebrating the best producers in film and television. Historically they have been known as an especially strong predictor of the Oscars, with 19 out of the 28 previous PGA winners going on to claim Best Picture from the motion picture academy, which is a 68% rate of agreement between the two industry organizations. Scroll down for the complete list of winners in all 12 categories.
The Producers Guild has had an even stronger track record forecasting the Oscars in recent years. Eight of the last 10 PGA champs have matched the Oscar choice (80%), and since 2010 both the motion picture academy and the PGA have used a preferential ballot to determine the winners. That unique voting method prioritizes consensus choices over passionate picks. That makes the PGA Awards the first industry event where we get to see what Hollywood can...

Only a day after announcing 100 layoff of on-air talent as well as a heartfelt tribute by Scott Van Pelt to his former colleagues on Sportscenter Espn made a colossal mistake. It’s almost as if someone high on the chain was saying “They’ll never notice it.” Either this was carefully crafted prank or the higher ups at Espn are that dumb but what happened yesterday during the NFL draft was inexcusable. And no, I’m not talking about the Takkarist McKinley dropping the F-Bomb on live TV during his NFL Draft interview. I’m talking about the fact that Espn’s draft was

Scott Van Pelt Aka the bald Matthew Perry had a very tough job on Sportscenter last night. As many of you already know Espn laid off around 100 on-air personalities in order to save money due to the rising prevalence of cord cutting. Espn president John Skipper spoke out in support of Sage Steele after the “SportsCenter” anchor was the victim of Twitter trolling earlier in the week. “Sage has done a wonderful job for us in a number of important roles. As previously announced, her ‘SportsCenter’ presence has grown and this week alone she has led our coverage from the men’s Final Four and the Masters,” Skipper said in a statement to TheWrap on Thursday. “Sage definitively has a bright and long-term future at Espn and my complete support,” he added.
