The season may be over for the Redskins, but they’re already preparing for next year. After the firing of Mike Shanahan, they officially hired Jay Gruden and he is ready to do everything he can to make next season a successful one.
The Washington Redskins are making moves. On Jan. 9, the team officially hired Jay Gruden, the former offensive coordinator of the Cincinatti Bengals, as their new head coach — and they can’t wait to see him begin working with Robert Griffin III.
Jay Gruden Named Washington Redskins Coach
Jay, 46, knows a thing or two about football. His brother is the former coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders and the current Espn analyst. However, it’s Jay’s turn to try for a Superbowl ring — with the Redskins, who finished with a record of 3-13 last season under Mike Shanahan.

Jay Gruden, who spent last season as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinatti Bengals, will take over the head coaching position for the Washington Redskins.
Jay Gruden Gets Washington Redskins Job
By taking the job, Gruden has become the eighth Redskins coach during the 15 years that Dan Snyder has served as the franchise’s owner. Their last coach, Mike Shanahan, picked up 40 losses over his four years at the helm, finishing the 2011 season with a 3-13 record. Gruden acknowledged that he’ll have his hands full with the team that finished dead last in the Nfc East.
“There’s a lot of work to do,” Gruden said. “When you’re 3-13, there’s not one particular player or reason. There’s a lot of reasons and a lot of things that need to be fixed, no question.”
“I will do my best to make sure that I put a competitive...

After four seasons as head coach of the Washington Redskins, Mike Shanahan was fired on Dec. 30. The team finished with a 3-13 record.
Since Daniel Snyder bought the Washington Redskins in 1999, the team has had seven head coaches — and it’s about to be eight. After their 13th loss of the season to the New York Giants on Dec. 29, the decision was made to fire head coach Mike Shanahan.
Mike Shanahan Fired From Washington Redskins
“Redskins fans deserve a better result,” owner Daniel Snyder said in a statement released by the Skins. “We thank Mike for his efforts on behalf of the Redskins. We will focus on what it takes to build a winning team, and my pledge to this organization and to this community is to continue to commit the resources and talent necessary to put this team back in the playoffs.”

I don’t think we’ve seen so many rookies come in and make an instant impact like we just saw this past season. Players like Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson, Ryan Tannehill, Doug Martin, Luke Kuechly, Lavonte David, and Bobby Wagner all had incredible rookie seasons. Most of them helped their teams reach the playoffs or even gave them glimpse of a brighter future.
However, in years past we have seen a lot rookies have great season, but then have a sophomore slump. Players like Sam Bradford, Vince Young, and Reggie Bush had amazing rookie seasons, but then the following year was a major drop-off in production.
They’re probably going to be a few of them this year since I don’t expect all the rookies that I just mentioned to repeat what they just did. So let’s take a look at the 5 players who...

DeAngelo Hall did a great job of keeping his composure. Yes, Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan really said that, according to a report by the Washington Post. Of course, Shanahan means Hall did a great job until that fateful moment when he removed his helmet. So what was that, almost a full 20 seconds?
Hall was ejected from the Redskins' match against the Pittsburgh Steelers after losing 30 yards in penalties for his team due to a profanity-laced tirade directed at an official on the field. Hall thought Steelers receiver Emmanuel Sanders should have been penalized for a dirty block, and Shanahan agrees. However, says the coach, "If something occurs, you have to be strong enough to stay away from it."
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has yet to announce any disciplinary action, but you can be sure Hall will be fined. Shanahan says he's waiting on the outcome of DeAngelo's meeting with...

I know using the Madden franchise as a barometer for what’s going on in the NFL is frowned upon by many sports fans, but I gotta tell you, Mike Shanahan is looking a bit beastly. Seriously, look at the pecs on that guy. I knew the guy was trying to build up a bit, but he’s going to have to bust some serious ass to look as good as he does on the Madden sidelines.
You can see for yourself later today when the demo for Madden NFL 13 hits Xbla and Psn. You’ll be able to play a game between the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins as well as a rematch between the Giants and 49ers. As much fun as it is to rattle Eli Manning’s head around that over-sized helmet of his, I’m really looking forward to testing out Rgiii’s arm.

As promised, here’s your NFL Week 2 Recap in the form of stupid pictures. Let’s break down this week’s games in incredible detail one-by-one, in no particular order: Falcons 41, Cardinals 7 To be fair, this result would’ve been even more lopsided if actual falcons had battled actual cardinals. But Rufio was lovin’ it: Jets 28, Patriots 14 The Jets silenced their critics for at least a day or two by scoring three unanswered touchdowns to beat the Patriots after a dominant second half: Mark Sanchez also lamely attempted to re-create the iconic Joe Namath Super Bowl pose: In this instance, the finger stands for “We’re One-And-One.” Eagles 35, Lions 32 This one was a thriller, coming down to the final possession after a successful onside kick by the Lions, but the Eagles stopped them on downs to hold on for the win. Fox’s Chris Myers then narrowly avoided a Michael...

Brett Favre has reportedly decided to retire from football for the third time. 40-year-old Favre has allegedly decided to call it quits this time due to a slow recovery from surgery on his left ankle earlier this year.

Favre did not report to training camp for the Minnesota Vikings when it opened on Friday. Still, not everyone is ready to accept Favre’s reported retirement considering he’s already tried it twice before.
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, who will be going up against the Vikings in November, told the Washington Post “I’ll have to see it before I believe it.”

Months ago, Lil Wayne expressed his hope that he'd be able to keep up with sports while serving his yearlong prison sentence at Rikers Island. Apparently, the wish of Birdman Jr. — who actually has a tattoo of the Espn logo — has been fulfilled. On Wednesday (April 14), Wayne updated his new blog, WeezyThanxYou.com, with his latest observations.
First up, Wayne says he thinks the Philadelphia Eagles dropped the ball by trading star Qb Donovan McNabb to division rivals the Washington Redskins.
"McNabb to the Skins ... wow!" he says in the blog (whose curator gave MTV News a sneak peek at the post). "I think this will be a great thing for all involved, except the Eagles. One reason is because I don't...

01/06/2010:
The Washington Redskins season ended on Sunday night after a 4th quater loss to the San Diego Chargers 23 to 20 in a season filled with injuries and last minute losses. On Monday morning, new General Manager Bruce Allen fired Jim Zorn after a 4-12 season. Zorn was coach of the Redskins for the last two years with a great start his first season, but the 2nd half of 2008 season and all of 2009 season the team struggled to win games. He was hired by owner Dan Snyder back in January 2008 as a offensive coordinator but later was named the team's head coach. Now the team has hired former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan as the 28th head coach of the Washington Redskins. Mike will be seventh head coach hired by Snyder since he bought the team in 1999.

Did you hear about the drama going down in the Mile High City? After thirteen years with coach Mike Shanahan at the helm, the Denver Broncos made a move at the beginning of the off season to bring in some fresh blood. Eccentric owner Pat Bowlen felt the spirit of 08’ and decided it was time for change. Bowlen declared “Yes I Can!” as he handed Shanahan a check for $20 million dollars and effectively ended their 14 year relationship.
After showing Shanahan the door, Bowlen pulled an Obama, reaching across the isle to the New England Patriots to acquire 32 year old offensive master mind Josh McDaniels. With two swift moves Bowlen gave the fans in Denver change, possibly the change they deserve. With these swift moves Bowlen also opened the door for drama, like Lc inviting Audrina to live in the pool house even though Audrina hates Lowe. Cue Frau Frau’s “Let Go”.
