Update: The White House is blasting Fox News again, this time over comments that one of its opinion hosts, Mark Levin, made on his radio show.
Levin attacked CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer and other network personalities over the coverage of the Israel-Hamas war, claiming that the network was filled with “a lot of self-hating Jews.” He said that Blitzer’s parents “weren’t victims in one way or another in the Holocaust, and certainly his family comes out of that background, but you wouldn’t know it.” He also said that Blitzer “wants Israel to die.”
Blitzer’s parents, David and Cesia, survived the Auschwitz concentration camp, and the CNN anchor has covered his background in a network documentary.
Levin’s radio show is part of the Westwood One radio network, but he hosts a weekend show for Fox News, Life, Liberty and Levin.

Update: John Leguizamo and his wife Justine were given choice spots at the White House State Dinner: At the president’s table, seated with figures including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Earlier, Leguizamo told a reporter that he “definitely” would be hitting the campaign trail for Joe Biden in 2024.
Asked about Biden’s outreach to Latino voters, Leguizamo said, “I think he’s doing the right things, which is getting Latin consulatns and talking to Latin experts who tell him how to address us, and make the effort. If you make the effort, we will be there, but you have to make the effort. I think he’s doing all that — him and Kamala Harris as well.”
Previously: The guest list for tonight’s White House State Dinner for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and partner Jodie Haydon includes a number of names from entertainment and media.

Meghan McCain is so done with TV.
After four years on “The View,” the political lightning rod needed a breather.
“This is so superficial,” McCain says when asked why she does not miss being on television every day. “My hair and skin were so thrashed because I wore hair extensions, and bleached my hair and had to wear full camera face makeup every day. Just the idea of having to get my hair wrecked and my face wrecked again is reason enough for me not to miss television.”
With a laugh, she exudes a sense of calm: “My hair looks so good now. My skin looks so good.”
“And,” McCain adds, “I don’t always know that everything needs my opinion.”
What McCain does miss, however, is talking about the news. And so, she’s launching her own podcast and production company.
Variety can reveal that McCain has launched Citizen Cain Productions,...

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: A prominent TV reporter walks into a bar…
A handful of the news anchors at MSNBC recently held a dinner to welcome Ana Cabrera, the former CNN journalist, to the network, where she has taken the reins of its 10 a.m. hour. Chris Jansing and Katy Tur, familiar faces to MSNBC viewers, were holding court, but Andrea Mitchell, a legendary Washington correspondent who has anchored an early afternoon show on MSNBC since 2008, was missing, due to making an appearance at Henry Kissinger’s 100th birthday.
“I thought a 100th birthday party for somebody would end early,” Mitchell confesses. “But it didn’t.”
Cabrera, Jansing, Tur, Mitchell have all found time to get together more frequently in recent weeks. They, along with their colleague, José Díaz-Balart, are playing a more critical role at MSNBC — but not in hours when such significance might be expected.

Many famous musicians remember where they were the first time they heard The Beatles. They are an incredibly influential band and jumpstarted a love of music for multiple generations. U2’s lead singer Bono was very young when he first heard The Beatles and still remembers it vividly.

U2 emerged on the rock scene in the 1980s, about a decade after The Beatles had split up. The Irish band has garnered international acclaim and success, but none of that might have happened without The Beatles. Washington journalism veteran Dana Bash will take over CNN’s weekday broadcast of “Inside Politics,” giving the network mainstay her first weekday anchoring assignment in nearly three decades at the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed network.
Bash will take over the program from John King, whose facility with a digital technology known as CNN’s “Magic Wall” that is used heavily during election coverage has expanded his overall profile. King will lead a new reporting project focused on voters in key battleground states as the 2024 presidential campaign cycle gets underway.
Bash will continue as co-anchor of the Sunday political talk program “State of the Union,” along with Jake Tapper. King is expected to continue to play a significant role in CNN’s coverage of elections.
Placing her at the noontime program is the latest maneuver in a wholesale reworking of the bulk of CNN’s daytime schedule under CEO Chris Licht.

MSNBC is adding another notable news anchor to its dayside lineup.
Ana Cabrera, who left CNN at the end of last year, will anchor MSNBC’s 10 a.m. hour in a program called Ana Cabrera Reports.
Jose Diaz-Balart most recently anchored the hour for MSNBC, but shifted to 11 a.m. as part of a larger shake-up earlier this year.
MSNBC has reworked its daytime lineup over the last few years under the “Reports” brand name, with news anchors like Diaz-Balart, Katy Tur, Chris Jansing, Andrea Mitchell and others hosting their own versions of the news-driven format. As with the other Reports shows, Cabrera’s program will include in-the-field reporting, interviews with newsmakers and discussions around current events.
Before joining MSNBC Cabrera was an anchor and national correspondent for CNN for nearly 10 years.

Nashville police confirmed this morning that three children and three adults had been killed in a shooting at The Covenant School, a private Christian school in Nashville. They also said the shooter, a 28-year-old female, was “engaged” by police and killed. Ninety-eight percent of mass shooters are male, according to the Violence Project, which tracks such violence. CNN isn’t the only cable-news network reworking its daytime schedule.
MSNBC is expanding Chris Jansing’s afternoon perch to two hours from one as the Washington D.C-based Hallie Jackson, who also anchors a late-afternoon program on NBC News Now, leaves the cable outlet to focus on the streaming work. All the moves come as NBCUniversal’s new operations refine their efforts under a reorganization unveiled Wednesday.
The moves were revealed to staffers Thursday in memos from Rashida Jones, president of MSNBC, and Janelle Rodriguez, the NBC News executive vice president who oversees NBC News Now. On a rainy Sunday afternoon, “Some Like It Hot” opened on Broadway and furnished the Shubert Theater with its most glittering audience in recent memory.

Update: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that a preliminary investigation indicated that a missile that struck Poland was likely from Ukrainian air defense.
“We have no indication that this was a result of a deliberate attack, and we have no indication that Russia is preparing offensive military action against NATO,” Stoltenberg said.
He said that Russia still bears responsibility given that it has been engaged in a barrage of attacks on Russian cities.
Previously, Tuesday, 5:45 Pm Pt President Joe Biden told reporters that it was “unlikely” that a missile that struck Poland was fired from Russia.

PBS is readying a new era at its venerable “NewsHour.”
The long-running news program confirmed that anchor Judy Woodruff would step away at the end of 2022, details of which previously surfaced in May. Woodruff is expected to begin work on a two-year project that seeks to understand how the American people see their country amid deep political divisions.
“PBS NewsHour” did not specify who would replace its veteran leader, but Variety reported that plans were set last Spring for her to be succeeded by Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett.
“I have loved anchoring this extraordinary program, initially with my dear friend Gwen Ifill. To follow in the footsteps of Jim Lehrer and Robert MacNeil has been the honor of a lifetime,” Woodruff said in a statement. “Now, I am thrilled to be embarking on this new project to try to understand the most divided time in American politics since I started reporting.

On Election Night, NBC News will split its own ticket.
Yes, viewers can see Lester Holt, Savannah Guthrie Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell hold forth on NBC proper. But they might also seek out a growing array of programming on digital venues.
Though NBC News has had a presence on TikTok since 2019, the unit is for the first time dispatching personnel to provide real-time reporting to the venue’s users says Catherine Kim, senior vice president of global digital news. NBC News can tap any of its journalists to deliver a quick hit, recut a piece of video that ran elsewhere, or, says Kim, ramp up new efforts to tell users if misinformation is circulating. A series, #NBCdebunks, aims to give the TikTok audience facts in the face of false stories circulating on the app.
“It’s going to be a real priority,” says Kim, of the growing TikTok effort.

“PBS NewsHour” typically dissects the news with a depth its counterparts at ABC, NBC and CBS do not. For tonight, at least, the venerable show is generating headlines of its own.

One of cable’s biggest news outlets has started to fill more of its schedule with something other than traditional news coverage.
MSNBC has defined itself for the past few years by using the bulk of its daytime schedule to air breaking reports from NBC News personnel on the news of the moment, then amping up analysis and progressive opinion-making in the early afternoon and evening. Now, as media companies intensify their efforts to attract audiences via streaming video, the business behind the TV home of Joe Scarborough and Nicolle Wallace is in flux.
Three different people familiar with the relationship between NBC News and MSNBC — each outlet is supervised by a different top manager — say that some NBC News correspondents have been directed to bring breaking-news coverage first to NBC News Now, the company’s ad-supported streaming news service, or other digital NBC News properties before any appearance on MSNBC is considered.

Even though she is on the cusp of turning 80, Lesley Stahl is still climbing mountains.
Thirty years ago, the “60 Minutes” correspondent “huffed and puffed for two months to get myself in training” for what she has said was “one of the best days of my life,” a visit with the famous Rwanda mountain primates that were the basis of the 1988 film “Gorillas in the Mist.” Her stamina work at that time didn’t do much for her, she recalls in an interview. “I almost died climbing to find them.” Despite her work, “what I failed to take into account was the altitude. It just did me in. Luckily, there was a porter or a guide who held my hand and basically made sure I didn’t quit or die.”
Stahl recently attempted the feat again for the CBS newsmagazine and managed to find the gorillas and get down the slopes.

The president plans to pay with it through a corporate tax hike and via increased taxes on the wealthiest 1% of Americans, including a near doubling of the capital gains rate on incomes above $1 million.
Below is a rundown of how to watch Biden’s United States Capitol address on TV and online.

Federal authorities executed a search warrant on the apartment of Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor and Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, as part of an investigation into his business and other dealings with officials in Ukraine, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.
Other outlets, including CNN, NBC News and The Wall Street Journal, the three major cable news networks quickly jumped on the news, bringing in guests and capturing images outside the Giuliani residence.
There was speculation that the execution of a search warrant signaled a new phase of the investigation. “This clearly is a big escalation in the ongoing investigation of Rudy Giuliani,” Andrea Mitchell said on MSNBC.
The investigation has been going on for some time. On Fox News, John Roberts noted the impact of the change in the administrations, from Trump to Joe Biden. “Changing of the guard has certainly changed the environment for...

MSNBC is rebranding its daytime MSNBC Live newscasts as MSNBC Reports, part of an effort to distinguish its news programming from analysis shows in the late afternoon and evenings.
The daytime schedule is not changing, but the MSNBC Live banner will be eliminated in favor of featuring the name of each hour’s anchor in the title along with “Reports” to show that the personalities are network journalists. So the daytime programming will start with Stephanie Ruhle Reports at 9 Am Et, followed by Hallie Jackson Reports, then Craig Melvin Reports. Andrea Mitchell’s show at noon will remain Andrea Mitchell Reports, as will Mtp Daily with Chuck Todd.
The afternoon will feature Katy Tur Reports at 2 Pm Et, followed by Ayman Mohyeldin Reports. Weekends will feature Kendis Gibson and Lindsey Reiser Report from 6 to 8 Am, Alex Witt Reports from noon to 3 Pm Et, and Yasmin Vossoughian Reports from 3 to 5 Pm.

MSNBC wants to make sure viewers know when they’re getting just the facts and when they are getting a little more.
The cable outlet is unveiling a new name for its daytime news programming, rechristening it “MSNBC Reports” instead of the current “MSNBC Live.” The change represents a bid to ensure viewers can distinguish between breaking news content from anchors such as Stephanie Ruhle and Katy Tur and programming that tilts more toward analysis and opinion. As part of the effort, each of MSNBC’s daytime news shows on weekdays and weekends will add the word “Reports” after each anchor’s name. Starting Monday, viewers will be watching shows such as “Craig Melvin Reports” or “Alex Witt Reports.” Chuck Todd’s “Mtp Daily,” which airs at 1 p.m., will retain its title to maintain its connection to the popular NBC News Sunday program “Meet the Press”

Joe Biden is facing the media in his first press conference as President of the United States on Thursday, with the remarks set to begin at 1:15 p.m. Et/10:15 a.m. Pt — meaning the broadcast networks will be breaking in to their regularly scheduled lineups to cover it. Below is a guide on how to watch the event.
Donald Trump was 27 days into his presidency when he held his first press conference. Barack Obama did so at just 20 days. George W. Bush waited 33 days before taking questions in a formally. For Biden, it’s been more than two months, prompting ongoing questions about the delay.
The president has plenty to discuss. He surely will seek to play up the fulfillment of his pledge to administer 100 million doses of vaccine in his first 100 days, which he accomplished 42 days early. Then there is the massive $1.9 trillion relief package he signed...

Refresh for updates: The Senate has spoken, and President Donald Trump has once again avoided impeachment. The 45th President of the United States issued a statement thanking his legal team and supporters.
More to the point, he vowed that “Our movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun.” Trump would have been barred from holding any future federal office if he was convicted.
Upon Saturday’s ruling a number of Hollywood figures including Mark Ruffalo, Padman Lakshmi and Wanda Sykes voiced their opinions on the decision, which acquitted Trump of impeachment charges.
While some expressed their disappointment with the outcome of the impeachment trial, others went after Sen. Mitch McConnell who gave a speech criticizing Trump, despite voting that the former president “not guilty” for inciting an insurrection on Jan. 6.
See some reactions below.

As NBC News’ newly minted chief White House correspondents, Kristen Welker and Peter Alexander have the sort of job that rarely ends neatly for the week on Friday at 5 p.m. And yet, every Saturday morning, this duo — Alexander jokingly refers to the team as “joint chiefs” — has even more to do.
Alexander and Welker are taking morning TV to (for the news industry) an exotic frontier, anchoring the Saturday broadcast of NBC’s “Today” from NBC News’ new facility in Washington, D.C. Yes, the sight of the U.S. Capitol looming over their shoulders on screen is no doubt familiar, but for A.M. TV aficionados, it may as well look like the landscape of Saturn. The bulk of TV’s morning-news choices hold forth in New York City, and the Saturday “Today” duo had been regularly journeying each weekend to NBC’s Studio 1A in Manhattan — “Today...
