[[tmz:video id="0_aporikrw"]] Ex-nhl bad boy Sean Avery and Martin Brodeur absolutely hated each other on the ice ... but now that they're both retired, is it time to bury the hatchet over some coffee?? Fyi -- the beef goes all the way back to the '08 Stanley Cup playoffs when Avery stood right in front of Brodeur to distract him from blocking the net ... and there's been bad blood ever since. So we asked the controversial hockey star...

Growing up, hockey games received more console time than any of the other games I owned, rented or borrowed. However, it wasn’t just my Toronto Maple Leafs fandom and passion that kept me invested. No, it was the games’ quality and addictive mechanics. Surely most will agree that, back in the 90s, many of the interactive versions of the frozen pond-based sport were fantastic. Electronic Arts owned its competition back then and still does to this day, thanks to its ability to deliver phenomenal annual iterations.
This year’s version of the phenomenal simulation series, which is aptly titled NHL 14, will pay homage to its past by offering a 20th anniversary branded throwback NHL 94 mode. Within its design, puck lovers will be able to use classic controls and physical force to take over the ice, while wearing throwback jerseys from teams like the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Minnesota North Stars.

The choice of who will be on the cover of the "NHL 14" video game is up to fans of the series, but it's been narrowed down to two goalies. Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils is doing battle against Sergei Bobrovsky of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
As an extra push, Electronic Arts, the company behind the series, has released a video of the two set to some interesting graphics. The video is meant to mimic one of the most popular versions of the game that has ever been released, "NHL 94."
Even 20 years later, the game still has a massive following. Brodeur joined the league in 1994, but just missed the deadline to be included in the game. That version of the title uses the 1992-1993 NHL rosters.
Fans can cast their vote for who they want on the cover over at the NHL website.

Survivor: Caramoan Review, Season 26, Episode 9
“Cut Off the Head of the Snake”
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
There are many Survivor episodes where the outcome is predictable, and it’s fairly easy to describe what just happened. Those are the norm because players rarely stray from the safest move to go forward. Living in a different universe are the outliers that leave even the most able-minded fan yelling “what just happened?” This week is one of those wonderful episodes. Malcolm overplays his hand and seems destined to go home, but a desperate play to get Reynold’s idol keeps him safe. What he doesn’t know is that he isn’t getting any votes. Worried about her own security, Andrea leads the charge for a safer plan and gets the majority to take out Michael. They remove a less-threatening fan, but the shift ultimately saves her. The...

Katie Holmes paid a visit Friday to the high-powered New York law firm representing her in the divorce from Tom Cruise. Casually dressed in white jeans and a yellow top, the actress, 33, arrived with four bodyguards in a Mercedes with black-tinted windows about 11:30 a.m. at the midtown Manhattan building housing the offices of Aronson, Mayefsky and Sloan. Daughter Suri, 6, was not with her, observers say. People has learned that for the past few days, lawyers for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have been working to negotiate an agreement between the two stars to avoid a brutal public divorce battle.

As their divorce battle heats up, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have enlisted some serious legal fire power. In Cruise's corner: Los Angeles divorce attorney Dennis Wasser, who previously represented Cruise in his 2001 divorce from Nicole Kidman, and veteran entertainment litigator Bert Fields, who has also represented Cruise for years. Wasser, whose daughter Laura is a top Hollywood divorce attorney herself, has been involved in a number of high-profile showbiz divorces, with Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood and Jane Fonda among his former clients. "Dennis is a gentleman and exceptionally bright," says L.A. family law attorney Robert Brandt. "His ultimate goal is to settle cases,...

Free agency is an interesting time for general managers around the league. On one hand, you have assets that can be acquired without giving up anything in return. On the other hand, when signing a free agent you are expected to pay a premium, oftentimes giving out contracts above the player’s value. In today’s salary cap era, this balance is key as a mixture of internal scouting/development, trades and free agent signings is what will ultimately lead to success.
One mistake, however, can create massive problems for a franchise as year in and year out we see examples of free agent flops. Buffalo’s signing of Ville Leino is a strong example of such as the forward finished with a meager 25 points and he cost 4 million dollars a year. See what I mean?

A hockey team’s goaltender provides its last line of defence, and is one of the most important pieces of any championship-winning puzzle. That’s why the best tenders in the National Hockey League command the big bucks, and raise the ire of their team’s fans whenever things aren’t going right. Granted, when things go well, fans will praise their favourite puck stopper like there’s no tomorrow.

After a decisive game 6 win, the Stanley Cup is coming is to Los Angeles. This is the first time in team history that they’ve won the Stanley Cup, making this all the more special for them. NHL legend Wayne Gretzky came close but it was not until today that American born Dustin Brown was able to bring the Cup home to L.A.
It was a hard fought series that saw multiple games go into overtime. The winner of all six games in this series was the always the team that scored first, which in game 6 was L.A. Both Martin Brodeur and Jonathan Quick played exceptionally well, controlling the tempo by allowing very few total goals.
Ultimately, the New Jersey Devils ran out of gas, sucumbing to the Kings 4-2 in games after coming back from a 0-3 start. It was an amazing playoffs and a great series.

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - New York Rangers forward Sean Avery is out on bail after being arrested at his Hollywood home Friday on charges of battery of a police officer. Officers were called to Avery's home due to noise complaints. A Hollywood police department rep explained, "He didn't want to turn down the music at his home." Avery was arrested at 1 a.m. and taken in to custody. This is not the first time Avery has caused controversy, on or off the ice. Six years ago, former player Georges Laraque accused Avery of making racist comments. In 2008 - the same year the Ontario-native took an unpaid summer internship with Vogue magazine - he was suspended six games for making lewd comments about his ex-girlfriends who had started to date other NHL players. He also has a penalty nicknamed after him. The "Avery rule" came from an April 2008 incident...

Bret Hedican playing for Team U.S.A. at the 2006 Winter Olympics. By David E. Klutho/Getty. A 17-year veteran of the N.H.L., retired hockey player Bret Hedican, who is married to Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi, suited up for Team U.S.A. during the 1992 and 2006 Olympics. Here he reflects on the 2010 Winter Games puck scene. The United States hockey team could not have planned this any better. I originally thought it was a definite tough situation for Team U.S.A. to find itself in the same preliminary pool as gold medal favorite Team Canada, but with all the surprises in this competition, I've been led to believe that Team U.S.A.'s seeding actually worked out in the Americans' favor. What I didn't know before the Olympic Games began is that: Switzerland's goalie Jonas Hiller would play the game of the tournament against Team Canada,...
