London, May 27 (Ians) England batsman Tom Banton has said he is still suffering from effects of Covid that he contracted during Pakistan Super League in March this year which may be affecting his form in county cricket.
Banton hasn't scored a single half-century in eight innings for Somerset in County Championship this season. Even in the match he played for Somerset's second XI, he managed to get only 44.
"I've still probably got long Covid. My smell and taste aren't too good still, which is a bit weird - and a bit worrying, actually. It might have had an impact on the runs - who knows? -- but apart from that it's been alright. I've felt probably [in] the best form I have done, but obviously the red ball sometimes has your name on it," Banton told espncricinfo.com.

New Delhi, Feb 6 (Ians) Australia pace bowler Mitchell Starc has not registered for the Indian Premier League (Ipl) players' auction scheduled to be held on February 18 in Chennai while teammate Steve Smith, who was released by his former Ipl franchise Rajatshan Royals has entered the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore.
Starc, who has played just two seasons of the T20 tournament in 2014 and 2015, had a lacklustre summer against India in Test series picking 11 wickets across four Tests at an average of 40.72. He was the only bowler in Australia camp to leak over three runs an over in the series against India. There was speculation that he would command a big price at this year's auction.
But according to a report in ESPNCricinfo.com, the left-arm pace bowler has opted out. He may have done it to manage workload and prepare for the T20 World Cup in India...

New Delhi, Feb 1 (Ians) England's white-ball analyst Nathan Leamon will be joining Kolkata Knight Riders as a strategic consultant ahead of 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (Ipl).
Leamon, who has been involved with the England team since 2009, will be involved with Kkr's auction planning and will work alongside Ar Srikkanth, their current performance analyst, during the season, as per a report in ESPNcricinfo.
The report further said that Leamon would take a leave of absence from the Ecb during the Ipl itself, after they recognised the value in him spending two months at the tournament working alongside England and Kkr captain Eoin Morgan ahead of the T20 World Cup in India later this year.
The Kolkata-based franchise had finished fifth in Ipl 2020, which was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) behind closed doors due to Covid-19 pandemic. They had registered seven wins and equal number losses, thus losing...

Abu Dhabi, Jan 27 (Ians) Australia cricketer Ben Dunk believes former India captain Ms Dhoni is "probably the number one wicketkeeper-batsman" the world cricket has even seen.
"I think Ms Dhoni is probably the number one wicketkeeper-batsman that we have ever seen. The way that he has played over a long period of time is amazing. His legacy and record and everything speak for himself," Dunk, who has played five T20Is for Australia, said.
"He has got ice that runs through his veins, he takes the game to a place where it's almost unwinnable and seems to somehow win them all the time. If I could play 5 or 10 percent as good as Ms, I would be very happy," he added.
Dunk, who will turn up for Qalandars in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament beginning Thursday, said he is looking forward to playing with former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi.

They include Mumbai Indians' fast bowling great Lasith Malinga, former Rajasthan Royals captain Steve Smith, Chennai Super Kings (Csk) off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, and Kings XI Punjab all-rounder Glenn Maxwell.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) have released the most number of players, 10, though it is noteworthy that among them are wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel, who announced his retirement from all cricket recently, and veteran South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn, who had opted out of the Ipl in the first week of this month.
Delhi Capitals said in a statement that they have traded all-rounders Harshal Patel and Daniel Sams to Rcb. They are, however, yet to name the players that would possibly come from Rcb as part of the trading window, which is open until about a week before the auction.

Melbourne, Dec 28 (Ians) South Africa spinner Imran Tahir, who was due to represent Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League, has withdrawn from Australia's premier T20 competition due to personal reasons.
His pullout is yet another instance of an international player withdrawing from the Bbl this season as it comes in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic. England's Tom Curran (Sydney Sixers) and Tom Banton (Brisbane Heat) had earlier pulled out due to biosecurity bubble fatigue.
Steve Smith, who is currently involved in the ongoing Test series against India too said he won't be playing any games this season. Jonny Bairstow had to withdraw due to international call-up.
"Unfortunately, Imran is not coming for personal reasons," said Michael Klinger, the Melbourne Renegades coach.

New Delhi, Dec 15 (Ians) Former Australia captain Ian Chappell said on Tuesday that the Indian team would need a huge group of players going forward as the bubble fatigue could kick in.
The India players have been on the road since September, playing the Ipl in a bio-bubble and then straightaway flying to Australia where they again underwent quarantine and are staying inside a bio-bubble.
The English cricket team was the earliest to be hit in the bio-bubble as Tom Banton and Tom Curran pulled out of the Big Bash League citing bubble fatigue. They left South Africa, where they were with the England team and headed straight back home instead of going to Australia.
"I have never experienced anything like this and I am not surprised some players have started to talk about bubble fatigue. We had a couple of England players who have already pulled out of the Bbl for that reason.

Brisbane, Dec 13 (Ians) England batsman Joe Denly has signed up with Brisbane Heat for the remainder of the ongoing Big Bash League (Bbl).
Denly, who played 11 games for the Sydney Sixers across Bbl 7 and 8, will arrive in Australia early next week and link with the squad in the first week of January as soon as he completes two weeks of mandatory hotel quarantine.
He will replace fellow Englishman Tom Banton who was granted a release from his contract for Bbl 10 due to 'bubble' fatigue after being in a series of 'bio-secure' environments across the year.
Heat coach Darren Lehmann said Denly would be a valuable addition to the squad, providing another experienced batting option.
"Joe has a reputation of having a cool head in pressure situations and I can see him helping to control our innings, whether chasing or setting a target," Lehmann said.

Brisbane, Nov 13 (Ians) Brisbane Heat have signed all-rounder James Bazley and batsman Dan Lawrence for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League.
Bazley was a Heat rookie player in Bbl 4 after the 25-year-old had stamped himself as a player to watch with eye-catching efforts for the Australian U-19 team and as a Queensland Bulls rookie contracted player.
A right-hand batsman and right-arm fast medium bowler, he played 11 List A games for the Cricket Australia XI over two seasons in the Matador Cup, Australia's domestic one-day competition.

Dubai, Oct 31 (Ians/GloFans) Consecutive wins in their last two matches have given Rajasthan Royals (Rr) hope for qualifying for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) and the Steve Smith-led team will aim to capitalise from the situation when they face a deflated Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) here on Sunday.

Dubai, Oct 28 (Ians/GloFans) An inconsistent Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) will look to seal their seventh win of the season and put their foot firmly in the playoffs when they face Chennai Super Kings (Csk) here on Thursday.
The Eoin Morgan-led Kkr lost their previous match against Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) by eight wickets. This resulted in them losing their fourth place to Kxip due to their inferior net run rate.
The two-time champions have been inconsistent throughout this season and would need to tick all the boxes against Csk, who are virtually out of contention but still hold the ability to spoil the party.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 23 (Ians/GloFans) Table-toppers Delhi Capitals (DC) will aim to return on the winning path when they face fourth-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) in the 42nd match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (Ipl) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium here on Saturday.
After a five-wicket defeat against King XI Punjab (Kxip) in their last match, Delhi will expect their batters to raise the bar as barring Shikhar Dhawan, all others have faltered.
It was Dhawan's second consecutive ton which had single-handedly propelled DC to a fighting total against Kxip before their bowlers failed to defend the target.
Young Prithvi Shah's last four outings include two ducks while captain Shreyas Iyer has struggled to regain his form with the bat he showed in much of the first half of the league stage since sustaining a side-strain.
Rishabh Pant had made a comeback from injury in the previous game but...

Abu Dhabi, Oct 22 (Ians) Mohammed Siraj's international outings have been disappointing. So too have been those in the Indian Premier League. Leading up to the game against Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday, Siraj had leaked runs at over 10 an over in the three previous games this season.
After a decent debut year in Ipl 2017 with SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh), he moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in 2018 but the overall performance with the Bangalore-based franchise was anything but impressive. He leaked runs and didn't get too many wickets over the next two seasons. That problem spilled over to this year too.
On Wednesday, things, however, changed when he took the new ball for the first time in an Ipl game since 2017.
The ball swung on a wicket that aided swing. Even though Siraj had been practising with the new ball in the nets, he didn't know he'd take the ball first up.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 21 (Ians) Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) captain Virat Kohli said that he had initially thought of starting their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) with Washington Sundar as Chris Morris' new ball partner and the decision to bring in speedster Mohammed Siraj was a late call.
"It was a late call to be honest (to give Siraj the new ball). Was thinking of giving Washy the ball and then bring Chris Morris into the game. But the pitch was very dry and so looking at the conditions we decided to start with Siraj and Morris," said Kohli at the post-match presentation.
Although Siraj misssed a hat-trick, he tore into the Kkr top order, dismissing opener Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana off consecutive deliveries in his first over and then Tom Banton in his next. Both overs were maidens, thus making him the first in the Ipl to have...

Abu Dhabi, Oct 17 (Ians/GloFans) A change in Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) leadership failed to bring a change in luck as the two-time Indian Premier League (Ipl) champions endured an eight-wicket hammering against Mumbai Indians (Mi) on Friday. They will hope for a positive result on Sunday when they clash with SunRisers Hyderabad, who too are in a bad shape.
After some successive below-par performances, Kkr, placed fourth on the points table, had a change of captaincy. Under fire skipper Dinesh Karthik handed over the reins to Eoin Morgan, England's World Cup-winning captain, but there was no change in the result in the game against Mumbai Indians.
Kkr's main concern has been the inconsistency of its batsmen. Kkr boasts of promising players like Rahul Tripathi, Shubman Gill, Morgan and Russell. Despite the fact they all have failed to keep the momentum going.
Morgan, too, was unable to create the kind...

Abu Dhabi, Oct 15 (Ians/GloFans) Reigning champions Mumbai Indians (Mi) are in red hot form and the Rohit Sharma-led side will aim to consolidate their position on the Indian Premier League (Ipl) points table when they clash with an inconsistent Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) in their return fixture on Friday.
The last time the two sides met in the current season, Mi had thrashed Kkr by 49 runs at the same venue, the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
With their consistent performances, Mi have emerged as one of the favorites of this year's title. The entire team has clicked as a unit, with both the bowlers and batsmen stepping up whenever the situation demanded.
While they have in-form top-order comprising skipper Rohit and opener Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan have provided stability to their side in the middle-order. The Mi batters are at their peak and can rip apart the best of bowling attacks.

New Delhi, Oct 14 (Ians) The Indian Premier League (Ipl) this season has seen quite a few young India pace bowlers performing on occasions. While T. Natarajan of SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh) has caught the eye with his consistency, Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) Navdeep Saini has created waves with furious pace and wears his confidence, quite literally, on his shoes -- a statement which says 'F*** it. Bowl fast'.
Both have impressed but have gone different ways. While the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar from Srh seems to have put pressure on Natarajan, who missed the last Ipl season due to an injury, the inclusion of Rcb's Chris Morris for the last two matches has given Saini the confidence and breathing space and his game has picked up.
There is similarity between Natarajan and Saini. They are accurate, can bowl good yorkers, and the left-armer Natarajan can almost bowl these...

New Delhi, Oct 13 (Ians) Chennai Super Kings' (Csk) spinner Imran Tahir, who won the Purple Cap last season with 26 wickets but is yet to feature in a match this year, is one of the key players available for mid-season transfer.
With a spate of injuries and imbalance in various sides in the first half, there is a possibility that some of the franchises who are seeking changes in their team, may use the option of mid-season transfer which began on Tuesday. At this stage all teams have played half of their league phase games, i.e. seven.
Leg-spinner Tahir had taken 26 wickets in 17 matches last season. It is a surprise that he or Mitchell Santner haven't featured despite none of the Csk spinners have done really well. Piyush Chawla, Csk's most successful spinner, has conceded close to nine runs per over.
