One of the most exciting recent developments in entertainment has been the rise of the YouTube Star – emerging artists who are creating their own content, determining how and when it is distributed to their audience, and being compensated for their work.
That makes YouTube stars great messengers to encourage youth to use their creative talents, get them thinking about the relationship between creative ownership and their own careers, and communicate that a career in the creative industries is a viable option.
Recently, CreativeFuture launched the Contribute to Creativity VidCon Video Contest. Working with Maker Studios, they are giving aspiring artists the opportunity to submit short videos to win a trip to VidCon. Top YouTube stars the Fung Bros, Michael Gallagher, Steve-o & Sam Macaroni, and Taryn Southern have partnered with them calling for entries in their own unique voices and videos.
CreativeFuture’s basic tenet is that creativity has value and that the next generation of artists should have the chance to showcase their talent and be compensated for their work.
The judges panel is formed by creative industry veterans and rising stars, including Ruth Vitale (CreativeFuture’s CEO), Tobin Armbrust ("Begin Again," "Rush," "The Way Back"); Alec Berg ("Seinfeld," "Curb Your Enthusiam," "Silicon Valley");Marty Bowen ("Twilight" Saga, "The Fault in Our Stars," "Maze Runner"); Arturo Castro ("Broad City"); Wyck Godfrey ("Twilight" Saga, "The Fault in Our Stars," "Maze Runner");Kasi Lemmons ("Silence of the Lambs," "Candyman," "Eve’s Bayou"); Franklin Leonard ("The Black List");Rena Ronson (United Talent Agency); Kurt Sutter ("Sons of Anarchy," "Bastard Executioner"); and Ryan Turek (Blumhouse Productions).
The contest runs from June 8 to June 23. The Grand Prize Winner will receive a $1000 cash prize and an all-expense paid trip with a guest to attend VidCon 2015 in Anaheim, California, in July.

Exclusive: In a development that bodes well for the coming avalanche of acquisition titles that starts tomorrow at the Toronto Film Festival, Relativity has closed a seven-figure deal for U.S. distribution rights to The Woman In Black 2. That is the sequel to the hit 2012 haunted house film that starred Daniel Radcliffe and was distributed in the U.S. by CBS Films. The sequel rights were controlled by Hammer and eOne, and the deal was brokered by CAA. The original grossed $54 million domestically and $128 million worldwide.
While buyers tell me they don’t see an obvious gotta-have-it title at Toronto like last year’s Can A Song Save Your Life, there is certainly an appetite for films that has been evident in festivals this year from Sundance to Berlin and Cannes. The Woman In Black 2 deal closed today, hours before Warner Bros opens the festival with the Robert Downey Jr-starrer The Judge.

The trailer for "A Walk Among the Tombstones" is further proof that Liam Neeson isn't afraid to tap into his dark side.
Opening September 19, "A Walk Among the Tombstones," based on the 1992 Lawrence Block novel of the same name, sets unlicensed private investigator Matt Scudder (Neeson in this movie, Jeff Bridges in 1986's "8 Million Ways to Die") on a mission to find the men who murdered the wife of a not-so-nice guy. As often happens in these kinds of books/movies, all is not what it seems.
Here's the full summary from Universal:

Cannes: Now that former president of international sales and distribution Alex Walton has announced his new company Bloom, Us operations at Exclusive Media are expected to wind down quickly.
What will remain of Dasym-owned Exclusive Media and continue as going concerns are the 800+ library and UK-based genre label Hammer run by Simon Oakes.
The popular Walton has transitioned his international team with him to the new venture, backed by producer-financier and Waypoint Entertainment founder Ken Kao.
The extraction of the sales team, allied to the fact that Bloom will continue to sell and service outstanding titles on the Exclusive Media slate, foreshadows the demise of the production division under president of worldwide production and acquisitions Tobin Armbrust.
The short-lived Exclusive Releasing’s days are numbered once the Us distribution operation has met all its obligations. Release titles included Adore (pictured) and Parkland.
Da Vinci Media Ventures, backed by UK entrepreneur Toby Moores and spearheaded by Wendy Rutland, will...

This weekend's horror offering, Hammer's The Quiet Ones (review), is supposedly based upon true events. So we figured we'd look around and come up with the actual video of said events. Curious? Take a look!
The film draws inspiration from the Philip Experiment of 1972, in which Canadian academic researchers tried to prove that telekinesis, poltergeists, and the like manifest solely through the human mind.
A quick trip to YouTube yielded some fruits for us paranormal-loving souls. The video you see below contains actual footage from the aforementioned experiment, and honestly? It's pretty damned interesting. Check it out, and tell us what you make of it!
The Quiet Ones is written and directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2) and stars Jared Harris ("Mad Men," The Ward), Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Erin Richards ("Breaking In," "Being Human"), Olivia Cooke ("The Secret of Crickley Hall," "The...
