Nick Zano has been recruited into Fox’s “Minority Report,” playing Stark Sands’ fraternal twin. The casting represents a departure from the creators’ initial plans. The two roles were originally intended as identical twins, each played by Sands. Owing to reasons both creative and production related, Zano (“Happy Endings,” “2 Broke Girls”) has been cast as Arthur, the twin who uses his precognitive powers to consolidate personal wealth and power, while Sands will play Dash, who selflessly applies his abilities toward the prevention of murders. In the Steven Spielberg sci-fi film on which the TV series is based, the two characters...

America’s most award-winning magazine comes to life in this docu-series pilot. Produced by Oscar and Emmy winner Alex Gibney, The New Yorker Presents features a documentary from Jonathan Demme based on Rachel Aviv’s article, “A Very Valuable Reputation,” about the biologist Tyrone Hayes. Writer Ariel Levy interviews performance artist Marina Abramović, and a story by Simon Rich is adapted into a short film starring Alan Cumming (The Good Wife). Actor Andrew Garfield (The Amazing Spiderman) performs a moving poem by Matthew Dickman called “King,” and the cartoons of Emily Flake take shape throughout the half-hour show.

The New Yorker Presents, Season 1, Episode 1: “Pilot”
Directed by Jonathan Demme
Released January 15, 2015 by Amazon
Of all the recent pilots released by Amazon, The New Yorker Presents is easily the most interesting. A half hour smorgasbord of content, this first episode is completely fascinating in terms of its form and what that could mean for both Amazon’s original series and television in general going forward.
The conceit of The New Yorker Presents is simple: a little bit of this, a little bit of that. This first episode contains a short film, a conversation/interview with an artist, a short documentary and a recorded performance of a poem. The ultimate success of a series like this is similar to that of a sketch comedy in that episodes and individual segments will be hit or miss week-to-week. Obviously, the goal becomes bringing together a collection of talent that is of...

As Netflix continues to assert itself as a major television company with such acclaimed series as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, Amazon Studios is racing to catch up by ordering series it hopes will be equally well-received. So far, Amazon has scored one big hit in the form of Jeffrey Tambor-led dramedy Transparent, and it hopes to find some more in the new lineup of pilots, which will be made available for viewing as part of the company’s first pilot season of 2015.
Enclosed are descriptions of all seven pilots, courtesy of Deadline. The talented involved on all of them is impressive, to say the least. Mad Dogs comes from Cris Cole (The Bill) and Shawn Ryan (The Shield), while The Man In The High Castle hails from Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files).
