At the turn of the millennium, CBS launched a number of reality competition series that have since become staples on TV, including Big Brother, The Amazing Race, and Survivor. The first-ever episode of The Amazing Race premiered just days before air travel as we knew it changed forever after the September 11 terror attacks. As a result of the tragic day, The Amazing Race and its future was also put in jeopardy.

Season 1 of the show aired back in 2001, and friends Rob Frisbee and Brennan Swain took home the grand prize. Today, their legacy is strong over two decades later.

Interview: Phil Lord and Chris Miller Talk 21 Jump Street and the Lego Movie as ‘Inception for Kids’
To celebrate the release of 21 Jump Street on DVD and Blu-ray, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to speak to the directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, about the film and their upcoming projects.
Touching on everything from Channing Tatum’s love for improvising stunts to Tom Selleck’s moustache, it’s fair to say our interview covered rather a lot of ground! Every inch as charming and entertaining as you’d expect, the pair gave a brilliant insight into the funniest film of the year.
HeyUGuys: Congratulations to you both for delivering the best comedy we’ve had this year.
Chris: That’s crazy – we’ll take that!
You must have absolutely jumped at the chance to direct a script from Jonah Hill and Michael Bacall. After focusing so much on animation, how did you end up getting the job?
Phil: We had Michael Bacall’s script...

For most of the 2000's it seemed like director John Woo had lost his mojo. Sure, he still knew how to throw up some action on screen, but that was about the only thing you could muster up to like about films like Mission Impossible II, Paycheck and Windtalkers. But in 2008 Woo proved that he's still got it with his critically acclaimed period set film Red Cliff. Aside from a Red Cliff sequel the director has stayed pretty low key. Now it is being reported that John Woo is set to helm Day of the Beast, an English language remake of Seijun Suzuki's 1963 classic Youth of the Beast, an action-packed saga of loyalty, revenge and redemption. Scripted by Rob Frisbee, Terence Chang, and Naoki Sato, the Tokyo set Day of the Beast follows a western outsider with a grim past as he becomes embroiled in a global turf war...

It’s been three years since John Woo’s last film, the sweeping historical epic “Red Cliff,” and after various flirtations, it looks he’s found his next project.
Deadline, among other publications, are reporting from Cannes that the legendary Hong Kong filmmaker has signed on to direct and co-produce an English-language remake of Seijun Suzuki’s 1963 yakuza opus, “Youth Of The Beast,” along with the famed Japanese studio Nikkatsu Corporation. The announcement comes as Nikkatsu, Japan’s oldest major movie studio, celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Woo, in a statement said “This remake is my salute to the great films and filmmakers produced by Nikkatsu’s 100 years in cinema history. It is exciting for me as well as an honor.” The remake, titled “Day Of The Beast,” will be written by Rob Frisbee and will mark Woo’s first English-language feature film in nearly a decade. Since he decided to take a break from Hollywood blockbusters and return to making Chinese epics, John Woo has largely been caught up crafting his huge Red Cliff films. But though he has a variety of other projects jostling for attention, he’s zeroing in on a remake of Japanese Yakuza pic Day Of The Beast. In what sounds like the sort of movie that could benefit from Woo’s typical visual flair, Beast sees a Westerner in Tokyo getting caught up in a clash between Cold War Russian gangsters and the Japanese mob.Seijun Suzuki directed the original film in 1963, and the new version will feature a script by Rob Frisbee. While it might not seem as though a remake is the best use of Woo’s filmmaking gifts, he’s seeing it as more than just a chance to produce a new take on something seen before. He...

John Woo will direct an English-language remake of Seijun Suzuki's Youth of the Beast, to be entitled Day of the Beast. Woo and his longtime partner Terence Chang will produce; the film will be a co-production of Woo and Chang's Lion Rocks Productions and the Nikkatsu Corporation. Rob Frisbee, who does not appear to have any previous credits, wrote the script. In Suzuki's original, Jo Sushido starred as a disgraced former policeman who infiltrates two Yakuka gangs in order to clear his name and that of his boss (borrowing the plot description from Mark Schilling's excellent book No Borders No Limits). It's a variation on the plot idea first established in Dashiell Hammett's Red Harvest, one that has been adapted, officially or otherwise, by...

I can't admit I'm pretty excited for this particular team on the upcoming season of The Amazing Race--but that's because I haven't seen the last season of Big Brother, and thus I haven't seen Jeff and Jordan do their stuff. But I'll still be watching out for them, because we've had this situation before: a couple who met from another realty show (Rob and Amber, yes) running the race.
The couple chatted with Entertainment Weekly--the full interview should be out in the magazine's latest issue--and said that while they entered Big Brother without having seen it, and managed to breeze to victory, The Amazing Race is a "totally different game".

The latest booted contestant on Zap2it's "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" countdown: Boston Rob.
Disclaimer: No prior knowledge of the season, these are merely prediction posts.
Once the Villains gain the upper hand post-merge by voting off James, we think the remaining Heroes alliance of Colby-jt-Amanda will see which way the wind is blowing and mobilize. They'll win Immunity, giving one of their threesome safety and they'll work on Rupert and Courtney to get Rob out.
Why will Rupert go along with it? Because he's easily swayed. Rupert was fun to watch but wasn't exactly a master strategist. Why will Courtney go along with it? Because she butts heads with guys like Rob and she'll be easy to convince to vote him out. She will probably also feel on the outs of Russell's alliance with Danielle and Sandra.
Plus, Rob has been all over the reality TV landscape.

Let's be serious, Brothers & Sisters is more soap opera than drama. Some of this show's story lines seem ripped straight from a General Hospital spoilers column.
Just the same, Gh doesn't boast the likes of Rob Lowe, Calista Flockhart and Sally Field, all of whom delivered Emmy-worthy performances on Sunday night.
Kitty’s collapse at the beach, which we saw in December, was caused by a clot in her lung, not her cancer. But the cancer is still there, and it's getting worse.
Her best option? A bone marrow transplant. Hence the title, "A Bone to Pick." Groan.

No Matches: None of Nora's kids are matches for Kitty's transplant. Except for Ryan, who's not interested because he hates the Walkers. But he comes around.

The tough part about assembling this list was excluding unintentional comedies; I mean, some of the hardest laughs you'll ever experience come during Pearl Harbor's love scenes. But in truth, there were a lot of great comedies in the 2000s, intentional ones, and they fell into every category. Some were straightforward, some were absurd, some were genre hybrids, and some snuck up behind you with heartbreak. But they've all got something in common: They're smarter than you'd think. These are subversive, interesting movies, whether they're making dick jokes or telling stories about lost love.
And they are all, of course, funny. That's something that came in handy during the decade, because let's face it, 2000-09 was just a horrible span of years, bookended by war and financial ruin and filled in between with every kind of disgusting letdown imaginable. It was an era of lowered expectations on every front,...

One of the teams that would participate in the 16th edition of "The Amazing Race" has been unveiled. A fan has snapped "Big Brother" contestants Jeff Schroeder and Jordan Lloyd at Lax over the weekend, with large backpacks similar to those worn by the participants of the race and matching blue T-shirts.
They were said standing in front of the gate from Chicago to Boston, meaning it may as well be early in the race. Other teams were also spotted at the international airport but they weren't immediately recognizable.
Jeff and Jordan reportedly had camera crew with them in North Carolina recently, most likely to shoot the promo for "Race". Moreover, Jeff's Twitter has been inactive starting November 22, around the time the production was kicked off. All in all, the casting will not be confirmed at least until early next year.
Jordan is the winner of "Big Brother 11" which also included Jeff.

I don't know what it is about CBS' The Amazing Race, but other than Project Runway, I can't think of another reality show that gives us as many interesting gay contestants as does Tar. Last season it was Mike and Mel White, as well as Luke Adams who was deaf and gay and competed with his mother Margie.
The network just announced the new line-up for the season debuting September 27th and it includes Sam and Dan McMillen, two brothers who only recently came out to each other. As you can see from the above pic, the duo are not only cute, but young and fit, something that bodes well for them to go far in the show.
So add The Amazing Race to your list of Must Watch Gay TV! And kudos to the show for continuing to present all sorts of gay relationships and pairings on the show.

Have a question about gay male entertainment? Ask the Monkey! (Please include your city and state and/or country.)
Q: A year ago I saw a very good gay short film called Bugcrush and I fell in love with Donald Cumming, the bad boy bug enthusiast from the film. Cumming is the lead singer is a great band called the Virgins. You gotta let me know if he is queer or not. – Darius, Birmingham, UK
A: I love the Virgins! If you’re not familiar with them, take a listen:
Cumming is definitely adorable. Alas, he is also straight, most recently linked with Peaches Geldof, the daughter of Bob Geldof and a U.K. socialite and reality TV star.

The original Ghost Hunters features members of Taps, a.k.a. The Atlantic Paranormal Society. This group of volunteers investigates supposed hauntings in a variety of locations across the United States,...
