Attended Mannes College, majoring in conducting and composition.

Winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition in 1972. He holds
an honorary doctorate from Leeds University.

Plays Bach: Italian Concerto, BWV 971; Brandenburg Concerto No 5, BWV
1050; Concerto for flute, violin, harpsichord, BWV 1044" (October 2003)
His recording of Frédéric Chopin's complete Etudes, Op.
10 and Op. 25, won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Soloist
