Exclusive: Buffalo 8 has set the digital release of Duality for October 21, Ryan Dowling’s documentary that was granted unprecedented access to an all-star roster of graffiti and street artists.
Once brushed aside – even deemed criminal – graffiti has since paved the way for many successful, credible artists today. With Duality, these street artists – some for the first time, some maintaining a strict code of anonymity – discuss their journeys from “tagging” to becoming respected icons in the cities they serve with pieces that are awe-inspiring in scope, size and complexity. They have collectively proven that their genre of art is something that can influence culture, evoke emotion, inspire, and cultivate community. Their rise has not been without challenges and criticism, but today they are admired by throngs of fans and oftentimes the art they produce brings in revenue for household brands and worldwide corporations. 'Sully' movie with Tom Hanks as pilot Chesley Sullenberger: Clint Eastwood homage to 'the durable, honorable American male.' 'Sully' movie review: 'Taut, straightforward' drama features Clint Eastwood's latest all-American hero When considering Sully, Clint Eastwood's taut, straightforward account of heroism on trial, it helps to remember that the title character's name works as both noun and verb. And one can see how Eastwood was drawn to both meanings. The noun, of course, is the nickname of airline pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who saved the lives of 155 passengers and crew on January 15, 2009, by pulling off a daring water landing after a flock of birds took out both engines of his Us Airways flight minutes after it took off from New York's Laguardia airport. The Sully depicted here is, like many Eastwood heroes, made of uniquely American clay; a sturdy, rigorous material that the director,...

‘Jersey Boys’ movie review: Great music fails to save Clint Eastwood-directed film version of the 2005 Broadway musical (photo: John Lloyd Young as Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons in ‘Jersey Boys’) Clint Eastwood’s semi-historically accurate biopic of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Jersey Boys, is based on the hit 2005 Broadway musical — and it is a crushing bore. But we shall start with the positive: In Eastwood’s film, the music and the performances of the music (which are not the same thing) are great. That is to be expected, as the Jersey Boys movie cast is mostly composed from cast members of the stage show, including Tony winner John Lloyd Young, who happens to look a lot like Frankie Valli and who has a four-plus octave range. Lucky boy. Lloyd Young is also a serviceable actor with a number of (mostly stage) credits that did not require a piercing falsetto.

Okay I admit it, I'm a showtunes queen! I love Broadway and musicals, good musicals, that is. And I think "Jersey Boys" is a good musical. The rugs-to-riches tale of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons is captivating and the soundtrack rocks!
And now comes the inevitable movie version, and to be honest? It actually looks good! Director Clint Eastwood added some grittiness to the Broadway gloss and voila -- a musical that will steal our hearts this summer, June 20th to be exact! Oh, plus points for adding Christopher Walken to the mix! Will he sing? Or at least dance?
Take a look at the new "Jersey Boys" trailer and then sing with the soundtrack:

Mob City has had much too short of a first season, only 6 episodes, but every minute of those episodes have been used wonderfully. In every respect, the show is, simply put, stunning. From episode one, Mob City has done many things right, from the atmosphere to the writing and finally to the casting choices. “Oxpecker”, the night’s first episode, does something very interesting. Anyone who’s familiar with mob history knows where Sigel and Cohen ended up (Sigel died bloody in his girlfriend’s living room and Cohen died in bed at 62), but Mob City doesn’t try to change their stories or rewrite what we know is coming for the sake of drama.

On an early morning over breakfast at a oceanside diner in Los Angeles, Milo Ventimiglia of TNT's L.A.-gangster drama "Mob City" is considering what it means to be wearing a suit-and-tie at work.
"I feel like I finally made it," he tells Zap2it. "It's was nice to have two suit-and-tie roles."
In the feature film "Grace of Monaco," set in the early 1960s (and set for release on March 14), Nicole Kidman plays actress Grace Kelly, who became Princess Grace after marrying Prince Ranier III of Monaco. Ventimiglia plays her press agent, Rupert Allan.
"So," Ventimiglia says, "the '60s, then you jump back into the '40s for 'Mob City.' It's hard to beat that."
In the six-episode "Mob City," from creator Frank Darabont ("The Walking Dead"), which concludes tonight on TNT, Ventimiglia plays lawyer Ned Stax, an outwardly respectable lawyer who works as a fixer...

Last week, I posted my "Mob City" interview with Ed Burns & Robert Knepper, who discussed playing a real-life and fictional mobster respectively in the TNT drama from Frank Darabont. The "mobster" hook gave a through-line to that interview. The pairing of Jeffrey DeMunn and Jeremy Luke offered no such through-line. DeMunn plays a fictionalized Lapd officer, while Luke plays the very real Mickey Cohen. DeMunn has worked with Darabont at every step through his career, while Luke is a first-timer in the Frank Darabont Repertory Acting Company. The disconnect led to some amusing detours in the conversation, including...

Noir drama Mob City dresses the part but does it deliver? Here's Michael's review...
This article contains spoilers.
Over half a century since its heyday film noir endures as a source of both earnest tribute and knowing parody. With a dash of L.A. Confidential and a heavy dose of brutal, graphic violence, Frank Darabont’s new limited series Mob City could have enough juice to push TNT into relevant drama territory.
Jon Bernthal takes the lead as war veteran Joe Teague, a less than perfect detective in 1947 Los Angeles. He’s a man who lives in a “world of grey hats”. Early in the pilot he’s placed on the fast track to becoming the department’s “golden boy” when he gets drawn into Hecky Nash’s (Simon Pegg) blackmail scheme. On Wednesday, Dec. 4, with the premiere of acclaimed filmmaker Frank Darabont's "Mob City," TNT brings the classic gangster drama to Tinseltown, which does have the gritty urban landscapes of New York and Chicago, the sandy beaches and palm trees of Miami and Havana, the tall buildings and neon signs of Las Vegas, and even snow (miles away on mountaintops, that is).
When it's pointed out Los Angeles isn't associated with the mob as much as other cities, Darabont tells Zap2it, "Well, all the more reason to tell the story of the mob that was, because it's a largely unexplored area. You've seen lots of stories about the mob in Chicago and New York back East.
"It's a lesser-known bit of history now, but it was very prevalent, it was fascinating, what was going on. I didn't even know the extent of it, until I read John Buntin's book,...

Ben Affleck has his hands full finishing up David Fincher's Gone Girl and moving to Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman after that where he'll play the Dark Knight. But once all that's over with the director of the Best Picture-winning Argo will move on to his second adaptation of a Dennis Lehane novel with the Prohibition Era story, Live by Night, which Warner Bros. just set for a Christmas Day 2015 release date. He rises up the ranks as the action moves to Tampa, Fla., then Cuba and features rumrunners, femme fatales, betrayals and good men committing plenty of sin. Though his time on AMC’s excellent The Walking Dead was plagued by rumors of strained relationships with network heads and excessive budget costs, it doesn’t look like Frank Darabont is done with TV yet. This December, he’ll unveil a gritty new event series for TNT, titled Mob City.

We all love to make fun of hardcore Jersey Shore guidos, but at least two creators believe that group is misunderstood. Jeremy Luke and Joey Russo star in Turbo and Joey, a web series about their lives as (you guessed it) aspiring Hollywood actors. Turbo and Joey's leads are embodiments of their characters, as they are both actors who hail from the greatest state in the union (not that, as a New Jersey native, I'm biased or anything). And yes, while they do spend plenty of time out partying like the bros they are, they weave softer, more creative, and ultimately sensitive personalities into their escapades. Turbo drinks heavily the night before a Macbeth audition because it's "part of the internal struggle" while Joey instructs his friend not to curse in front of his baby, even though the illegitimate infant only turned up on their doorstep seconds ago. Turbo and...

Grab your mom, pop up some popcorn, and get ready to enjoy a flick that’s all about porn. On the surface, Don Jon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt‘s full-length directorial debut, is about a Jersey boy who views women as objects whose sole purpose is to get him off. But underneath all that almost-nudity is a smart comedy that examines how media shapes our expectations and provides an escape from our everyday lives. With porn.

There's barely a wasted moment in Joseph Gordon-Levitt's hilarious and wise "Don Jon." Well, as long as you don't consider a guy obsessively watching porn and doing what follows as "wasted." The title character (Gordon-Levitt) certainly doesn't.
"All guys watch porn, every day," he insists to one and all. But as frenetically as he does?
"It's not that I can't stop. But why should I?"
That's fine when you're strutting through the bars with your buds (Rob Brown, Jeremy Luke), bagging and bragging about it. Then Jon, whose pals call him "The Don," meets "a dime."
Yeah, Barbara (Scarlett Johansson) is a "10" all right. But this Jersey girl has her eyes on the prize. Not Jon as he is, but Jon as he could be. She teases and tempts and grinds on him and has him enrolling in night school, rounding up his friends to meet her friends and...

Chicago – Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a unique dichotomy. Part independent and part mainstream film actor, he’s managed to succeed as both. And with this Friday’s release of “Don Jon,” add to that list a first-time writer and director. But none of it could have been without Christopher Nolan.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Nolan – who made his worldwide mark with “Memento,” “Batman Begins,” “The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight,” “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises” – is credited with making Joseph Gordon-Levitt mainstream.
Jgl – as I’ll hereafter refer to him because 20 characters is too many and it’s almost as cool as Neil Patrick Harris’ Nph – has been mentored heavily by Nolan. Jgl starred in Nolan’s “Inception” (his mainstream breakout role) and then “The Dark Knight Rises”.
Entirely of Ashkenazi Jewish descent, only 32 years old and from Los Angeles, this 5-foot-9 “Regular Joe” turned once again to Nolan when he decided to embark on his own project.
