Exactly 12 years after he gained his first MLB save,
Franco becomes the first left-hander to record 300 saves.
Franco wears a Department of Sanitation T-shirt when he pitches to
honor his late father, James, who worked there.
Graduated from Lafayette High School (Brooklyn, NY), the same school
Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax attended.
Pitched two no-hitters in his freshman year at St. John's University.
He was inducted into the St. John's University Sports Hall of Fame in
January, 1998.
Mets announce Franco will miss the remainder of this
season and probably most of 2003 after an MRI revealed an injury to the
medial collateral ligament and the flexor tendon in his elbow. He is in
the second year of a three-year deal worth $10.5 million.
