Academy Award® Qualifying Short Shorts Film Festival (Ssff) & Asia 2023 announced the jury members of Live Action Competition, Non-Fiction Competition and Smartphone Film Competition supported by Sony's Xperia. Best short award winners of each Live Action and Non-Fiction competition will be eligible for the nomination of the following year's Academy Award®.
Since last year, in order to take a wider view of international perspectives, the judges in the Asia International category will judge the Non-Fiction Competition, and the judges of the Japan Competition will judge the Smartphone Film Competition supported by Sony's Xperia.

Doubling down on investment and expanding its offer in Japan, Prime Video has unveiled a slate of new Japanese originals including a reboot of iconic game show Takeshi’s Castle and a local adaptation of anthology series Modern Love. The streamer revealed the lineup at a showcase event in Tokyo today, where it also announced it will livestream the World Bantamweight title fight between Naoya Inoue and Nonito Donaire on June 7.
Among other new offerings are YA romantic horror adventure-comedy series My Undead Yokai Girlfriend created by NCIS: Hawaii and Grace alums Yalun Tu and Zach Hines; a movie adaptation of Ryota Kosawa’s bestseller Angel Flight; and second seasons of The Masked Singer and The Bachelorette Japan which will debut this summer. Taipei-based sales company Ablaze Image has picked up international rights to Kano, produced by Wei Te-sheng (Warriors Of The Rainbow: Seediq Bale), and Yee Chih-yen’s long-awaited third feature.
Kano, a $10m sports drama based on a true story, marks the directorial debut of Umin Boya (also known by his Chinese name Ma Chih-Hsiang). Set in the 1920s when Taiwan was under Japanese rule, the story focuses on a multi-ethnic baseball team making its way to Japan’s high school baseball championship.
Wei Te-sheng and Jummy Huang, the creative team behind Warriors Of The Rainbow: Seediq Bale, are producing the film which is currently in post-production for a February 2014 release. The cast includes Japanese actors Masatoshi Nagase, Takao Osawa, Maki Sakai and Togo Igawa.
