Prime Video has released the first photos from My Lady Jane, the quick-witted romantic new series set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world. The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Thursday, June 27, in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
Inspired by the best-selling book, My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband, Guildford.
At the center of this rollicking new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane, who is unexpectedly crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure, where the damsel in distress saves herself, her true love, and then the Kingdom.

Remembering Denzel Washington’s Cool Factor in Glory Let’s kick this off with a throwback to 1989. You know, back when shoulder pads were a thing and Denzel Washington wasn’t just an actor, but the actor who took home an Oscar for his role in Glory. Playing Trip, a former slave turned Union soldier, Denzel was the epitome of cool confidence. This wasn’t just your average ‘look at me I’m so tough’ performance. It was layered, complex, and yeah, cool as hell amidst some serious adversity. Glory, you did good by casting this man. Denzel’s Malcolm X The Epitome of Charisma...

In 1966, Gene Roddenberry and his co-creators gave the world Star Trek, an adventure series that imagined humanity overcoming its racist and sexist and class divisions, which inaugurated a new age of exploration. Corny? Sure. Imperfect? Of course. But that fundamental optimism remains a key aspect of Star Trek, presenting a challenge to those future creators tasked with keeping the franchise alive beyond the years of its birth.
That doesn’t mean the optimism can’t be challenged or re-contextualized. Indeed, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine did exactly that, and many put that series at the top of their franchise rankings. But Deep Space Nine also introduced Section 31, a black ops organization within Starfleet and the darkest alternative to Star Trek optimism this side of the Terran Empire.
Sadly, later Trek creators have jumped onto the Section 31 concept, resulting in darker, much more pessimistic (and paranoid) stories that forget the best...

In the seventh episode of Death and Other Details, we learned how Imogene’s mother, Kira Scott, was murdered. Kira Scott knew about the corrupt Collier family, who were responsible for a lot of deaths due to their use of a chemical called Captionem Blue in their mill. But Kira couldn’t gather substantial evidence against the Colliers to bring them down, and because of her involvement, she ended up becoming a target of the Colliers. The Colliers orchestrated Kira’s murder by planting an explosive in her car; however, they didn’t know that there was another witness to their atrocities besides Kira. It was the Chun family matriarch, Celia Chun, who helped Kira in her quest to bring the Collier family to justice, but following Kira’s death, she had to back off from her mission. Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001. The night Enterprise, later to be named Star Trek: Enterprise, premiered with “Broken Bow.” I didn’t get to see it that night, probably since it was a school night and I was 10. I taped it on VHS and watched it with my mom a day or so later. We both enjoyed it well enough.
Until we got to a certain scene.
The crew was just attacked on an alien planet. The plot was ramping up. But first? Trip (Connor Trinneer) and T’Pol (Jolene Blalock) strip down to their underwear and lather each other up with gel. I never get to know why because my mom made me fast forward through the scene, feeling it was, “inappropriate.” We got to the next scene and resumed watching, never speaking of the “inappropriate” scene again. I didn’t rewatch “Broken Bow” until earlier this year and finally got to watch the forbidden scene.

More than two dozen prominent names from the acting world — including Susan Sarandon, Cynthia Nixon, The Crown actors Khalid Abdalla and Tobias Menzies, and Game of Thrones stars Charles Dance, Carice van Houten and Lena Headey — have contributed to a series of videos supporting South Africa’s historic case charging Israel with genocide at the International Court of Justice in the Hague.
The video series is published by the Palestine Festival of Literature, a British-based cultural association committed to “the creation of language and ideas for combating colonialism in the 21st century.” The video shows the actors reading key sections of South Africa’s 84-page dossier, which argues Israel is guilty of violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in its actions in its war in Gaza against the terrorist group Hamas.

Oh no, not the decontamination chamber.
When "Star Trek: Enterprise" debuted in 2001, there was a conscious effort by the showrunners to work in as much brazen sex appeal as they could. Noticeably, the casting directors hired Jolene Blalock, who had worked as a professional model, to play the Vulcan First Officer T'Pol, and the costume designers were careful to outfit her in skin-tight body suits. She was clearly meant to replicate Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) from "Star Trek: Voyager."
"Enterprise" was set about a century prior to the original "Star Trek," and some of the more popular "Trek" tech hadn't been invented yet. As such, when a team of officers returned from an away mission, they had to spend a long span in a decontamination chamber. In later other "Trek" shows, the transporters took care of contaminants and idle spores an away mission might have accumulated. On "Enterprise," officers...

Metallica is, without question, one of the biggest music acts in history. They've sold more than 120 million albums worldwide and have played on every single continent -- yes, even Antarctica. Not bad for a thrash metal band that seemingly had very little commercial upside and originally tried to call their first album "Metal Up Your Ass." In 2013, after more than 30 years of conquering the music industry, Metallica set its sights on conquering the big screen with a wildly ambitious concert film. Unfortunately for James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo, the venture proved to be arguably the biggest financial misfire of their storied career.

In a suburban neighborhood in the mid-1970s, all five teenage girls in the Lisbon family die by suicide, forever changing the lives of the boys who lived nearby. Sofia Coppola's 1999 film "The Virgin Suicides" is tragic and isn't always easy to watch, but it's a beautiful and eerie dive into the secret lives of teen girls, the reach of grief, and the malleability of memory. The film was Coppola's directorial debut and she wrote the screenplay as well, based on the 1993 novel by Jeffrey Eugenides.
"The Virgin Suicides" has gone through waves of popularity, as it was beloved on the festival circuit only to barely make back its budget at the box office. Later it found cult status on home video, joining the Criterion Collection in 2018. It's a deeply challenging film because the impending deaths of the girls loom over every scene — in a way, we know the...

Carrying around the label of America’s greatest living actor must be quite a tricky thing to have to do. You’re going about your business, trying to pick interesting projects, keeping yourself challenged. But people watch you and your acting, and want to know you, what makes you tick, how it feels to be one of America’s greatest living actors. Denzel Washington has managed to handle that mantle with grace, and while maintaining a very old-school kind of movie star mystique.
Washington’s endless charisma and ability to be both engagingly ironic and deeply sincere run through his most formative roles, along with a sense of conscience and responsibility – which he’s kicked against from time to time, too. Whichever way he pushes, he’s been malleable enough to find more gold.

Sharp-eyed Trekkies can easily see a throughline connecting Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) from "Star Trek: Voyager" directly to T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) from "Star Trek: Enterprise." Seven of Nine was brought onto "Voyager" in its fourth season as an attempt to boost flagging ratings, a mercenary tactic openly admitted by the show's creators. On the special features included on the "Voyager" DVDs, executive producer Brannon Braga suggested to fellow executive Rick Berman that their show should include a Borg as a character. Berman suggested it be "a Borg babe," and history was made. Ryan was squeezed into an architecturally impressive corset, and ratings began to go up.
Prior to and during her acting career on "Enterprise," Jolene Blalock was a professional model, having appeared in multiple magazines like FHM, Maxim, and Playboy, clothed. Casting Blalock as the Vulcan first officer in "Enterprise," then, seemed as mercenary as casting Ryan as...

Spoiler warning for all of Star Trek!
All through the second season of Star Trek: Picard, one burning question was left unasked and unanswered – what happened (or didn’t happen) between Jean-Luc Picard and Beverley Crusher?
One of the major themes of the season was Picard’s romantic history and his difficulty building and maintaining a romantic relationship with anyone. But despite their history as a possible couple, explored in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation (“Attached”) in which they confronted their unspoken feelings for each other, not to mention the alternate future in which they were divorced (“All Good Things”), their flirtation while under the influence of an alien illness (“The Naked Now”), and all those cosy breakfasts in Picard’s quarters, not once in all these conversations about Picard’s romantic past was Crusher’s name so much as mentioned.

If there’s any show that took a heavy dose of inspiration from Power Rangers back in the ‘90s and still brings back fond(ish) memories, it’s without question Big Bad Beetleborgs. Premiering in 1996 on Fox Kids and running two seasons, the show was another hybrid of stock Japanese action footage and original American shot scenes. The series memorably featured not only a cast of kid heroes who’d transform into the titular Beetleborgs but also a gang of horror movie monsters that provided comic relief. This included the character of Flabber, who can only be described as the ghost of Jay Leno if he was turned into a Blue Meanie from Yellow Submarine. Even if people don’t remember the Beetleborgs themselves, they always remember that strange character … perhaps have nightmares of him.
But there was very nearly a different version of Beetleborgs, one that featured some stark...

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 Episode 4
This article contains some mild Star Trek: Lower Decks spoilers.
It’s always been clear to Star Trek fans that the heart of this franchise is in the friendships it features. Whether it’s Kirk, Spock, and McCoy, Trip and Malcolm, or Tom and Harry, it’s those relationships that we celebrate in Star Trek, and that’s what this week’s episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks, “Room for Growth,” focuses on.
“Room for Growth” sees the Lower Deckers lamenting the lack of space in their shared quarters with the rest of the lesser-ranked (and dressed!) officers and crew on board the USS Cerritos. When the chance for a lottery for more private quarters comes up on the upper decks and attracts the attention of all shifts, including the devious Delta Shift, it’s up to Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Boimler (Jack Quaid), and...

Krista Vernoff is branching out to streaming.
The Grey’s Anatomy showrunner is teaming with Octavia Spencer to adapt Ashley Elston’s forthcoming novel First Lie Wins for Hulu. The drama, which landed at Hulu and ABC Signature following a bidding war, is currently in development at the streamer.
First Lie Wins is described as a twisty cat-and-mouse thriller. Elston sold the title preemptively to Pamela Dorman Books. It is slated for publication in early 2023.
Vernoff and Meghann Plunkett are both set to pen the script. First Lie Wins marks a reunion for Vernoff and Plunkett, with the latter currently writing on Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Station 19 and having been staffed on the former’s short-lived ABC drama Rebel.
Exec producers include Vernoff, Plunkett, Spencer and her Orit collaborators Brian Clisham and Stephanie Kluft. Author Elston will also exec produce alongside Vernoff’s husband...

Office Invasion is the latest in a long line of films to use science fiction as a vehicle to poke fun at society. Writer Gareth Crocker and co-director Fred Wolmarans have come up with an idea that not only takes shots at corporate culture and the treatment of workers, but being a South African film also becomes a fairly direct parable about colonialism.
Three friends Sam, Junior (Sechaba Ramphele; Love on Safari), and Prince work for Ami a corporation that mines a rare metal called Zulcanoid for which there is far more demand than supply.
When the company is suddenly sold and the new owners Gregory, Badrick, and Anya (Aimee Ntuli) claim that business is slow and initiate severe austerity measures, including ending medical benefits, something that hits Sam,...
