Jim Brown was everything. He was the greatest football player of all time, a trailblazing Black movie star, a vital voice during the Civil Rights Movement, and a man around whom controversy persistently swirled because he did not give a single, solitary f**k ... to a fault.
Brown was a model of American manhood. He played nine seasons of football as the Cleveland Browns running back, and he made the Pro Bowl in every one. Brown averaged 5.2 yards per carry for his career (third-best of all-time) and did so by scrapping for every inch inbounds. He blasted into defenders with rib-cracking velocity. He took his lumps (which were bruisingly visible in his later years), but when you tackled Brown you got the worst of it. The man didn't believe in running to the sideline. He ran through you.

Jim Brown, among the NFL’s greatest players at any position who went on to star in Hollywood Films like “The Dirty Dozen” and “Any Given Sunday,” has died, his wife Monique Brown said Friday on Instagram. He was 87.
Brown’s singular dominance in the NFL of the late 1950s and 1960s was unmatched. Brown made the Pro Bowl in every season from 1957-1965, was a three-time Mvp, and won a championship with the Cleveland Browns in 1964. Of his nine seasons, he led the league in rushing yards for eight, and held most of the league’s major rushing records upon his retirement.

Jim Brown, the incomparable Cleveland Browns fullback who quit the NFL at the peak of his prowess to become a Hollywood action hero in such films as The Dirty Dozen, Ice Station Zebra and 100 Rifles, has died. He was 87.
A staunch advocate for civil rights, Brown died in his Los Angeles home Thursday night with wife Monique by his side, his family’s spokesperson told the Associated Press.
In a statement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell praised Brown’s skills on the field, in addition to calling him a “cultural figure who helped promote change.” The message continued, “During his nine-year NFL career, which coincided with the civil rights movement here at home, he became a forerunner and role model for athletes being involved in social initiatives outside their sport. He inspired fellow athletes to make a difference, especially in the communities in which they lived.”

Netflix almost always knows what you want to watch.
The streaming services algorithm works hard to take your viewing preferences and find more just like it. Still even with all that math, some shows are bound to fall by the wayside. There is just so much content on Netflix that some of it is hidden from view.
So here we've compiled the best "hidden" TV shows on Netflix. Go beyond the algorithm and find something a little more obscure. Some may be from the distant past,...

History is the lifeblood of a sporting institution. Be it the Liverpool reverence of Shankly, Green Bay Packers adoration of Vince Lombardi, or the inevitably long-lasting legacy that Fergie has left behind at Man United, everything a club does is held in context of what has gone before. The downfalls of clubs like Leeds and Nottingham Forest in recent times, are all the more shocking, because they were taking Europe by storm, not just their own country.
Usually it is events on the pitch that decide which way a club’s history will go, but there are some owners who for various reasons, from making their own egotistical mark to the more understandable maximising of revenue streams, have changed key traditions at the risk of antagonising their most important allies – the fans.

Sunday’s match-up at Wembley placed the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Minnesota Vikings, and talk of the possibilities for the NFL in this country are endless.
The growth of American Football in the United Kingdom has been extraordinary ever since the first International Series game took place at the national stadium back in 2007.
In fact there was a significant fan base prior to the first regular season game outside of North America six years ago. Exhibition games took place at the ‘old’ Wembley from 1986 to the early 1990s, and Channel 4 was showing games during the 1980s as well.
However, it has gone from strength to strength. Saturday’s NFL Block Party in Regent Street attracted half a million visitors who were treated to performances from the Vikings cheerleaders and appearances of the coaches and players from the respective teams, all the while tucking into some traditional American food.

NBC fired over Bob Costas' Halftime Essay on Art Modell and Halftime Notes. From Costas: Sunday Night Football Halftime Dungy on the first half: .John Fox is a defensive coach and likes the running game and all that, but don.t wait 20 minutes to let Peyton be Peyton. That no huddle, that high-energy, fast-paced, that.s Peyton Manning. You.re going to score points, if you let him do that.. Dungy on Redskins Qb Robert Griffin III: .Griffin is smart, he.s mobile and he.s got a strong arm. The same qualities John Elway had as a young man. And he.s running the same offense so we.re going to get the same results, a lot of big plays from him.. Patrick to...

TV star Patricia Modell has died at the age of 80.
She passed away on Wednesday after spending more than five months in hospital, according to the Associated Press.
Modell was born Patricia Breslin in New York in 1932 and landed recurring roles in a number of hit series, including The People's Choice, Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Twilight Zone, as well as U.S. soaps Peyton Place and General Hospital.
At one point in her career, the actress starred in more TV shows than any other woman in history, however, that record was broken by Lucille Ball.
She later married businessman and former owner of the Baltimore Ravens, Art Modell, and retired from showbusiness in 1969 to focus on her family and charity commitments.

A good friend that I met in college is an enthusiastic sports fan. That alone is of course not a notable statement; I made several friends in college, and I shared our great cultural obsession for the professional sports world with most of them. There is, however, something noteworthy about this guy. Given all the jawing about sports that he and I have done over the years, in my mind it has assumed the status of perhaps his most defining characteristic.
He was born in Cleveland.
I could simply leave it at that and end this column right there. In this context, that sentence is a punch line all by itself. You do not need to be a sports historian to reflect upon the last 45 years and realize that Cleveland sports success -- or at least the ultimate success as opposed to heartbreak on the occasional brink thereof -- is nonexistent.
