Why Watch? A stagehand’s version of the 1950s and a dash of Twilight Zone flavoring, this short from Luke Asa Guidici delivers a cheerfully sinister story with a terrible tale at its core. Based on the story from Saki, it features a Gump-ish postman’s first day of work and the little girl who tells him about her family’s recent tragedy. It also features a few bottles of sarsaparilla, which are a fitting icon for a tone that’s as biting as it is refreshing. The tonal balancing act here is noteworthy because horror and comedy are difficult to port side-by-side even without camp, but this short gets away with a mile-high wink, some fear and a few cathartic laughs thanks to a bipolar imbalance created by its star.
