An Alternative Reality: The Football Manager Documentary - which saw its first screening in cinemas nationwide this week - is an hour and a half of anecdotes and musings on the long-running simulation series. It might not appeal so much to non-Football Manager fans - there are a fair few references non-players won't get - but those who've been playing the series for decades will find a lot to love in it.
After watching the film and listening to series director Miles Jacobson do a Q&A, we managed to pick up on seven nuggets you likely didn't know about Football Manager.
1. Football Manager nearly bagged Alex McLeish a superstar
Alex and his son Jon talk about one thing we did know before: the younger McLeish recommended a player he'd discovered on Football Manager to his dad, back when he was managing Glasgow Rangers. This dismissed recommendation of a teenager...

Tottenham Hotspur’s record signing Erik Lamela is set to start on the bench after a long journey back from international duty as Norwich City visit White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Christian Eriksen could make his Spurs debut, while fellow new boy Vlad Chiriches has yet to receive his work permit. Aaron Lennon (foot) and Etienne Capoue (ankle) are also missing, as is Emmanuel Adebayor who is on leave in Togo. Gylfi Sigurdsson picked up a dead leg playing for Iceland but should be fit.
Norwich could also be set to hand a debut to Gary Hooper, signed from Celtic, who has returned to training after picking up an injury during pre-season. Hooper joins a match day squad that is at full strength.
Andre Villas-Boas will be hoping that his side bounce back from their derby defeat at Arsenal, although goals from open play have proved a problem in the league for the lilywhites.

Giovanni Trapattoni’s tenure as Republic Of Ireland boss looks set to be coming to an abrupt end following their 1-0 defeat to Austria on Tuesday night. The Football Association Of Ireland released a statement revealing they would review Trapattoni’s position as manager as qualification for next summer’s World Cup after their hopes were effectively ended once and for all last night.
The statement reads as follows;
The recent results against Sweden and Austria were very disappointing for everyone involved in Irish football, the manager, the players and supporters.
Our aim of qualification, although mathematically possible, is now highly unlikely even though the team will always do everything within their power to keep that hope alive.
The Fai Board of Management will now consider the current position over the coming days.
The post-match press conference which was due to take place this afternoon in Dublin has been cancelled...

Time is running out for the Republic of Ireland in Group C of the Europe World Cup qualifiers. After defeat to Sweden in their last game, qualification for Brazil is looking more unlikely than ever, and patience with Giovanni Trapattoni seems to be wearing thin. The “Boys in Green,” now need three wins from three to qualify for the World Cup while also relying on Sweden to drop points against Kazakhstan.
With things looking bleak for the current crop of players, perhaps it’s the best time to look back at some of the better moments in their history, ahead of their crunch game with Austria in Vienna.
