25 years ago, the face of Indian television changed beyond recognition. Nobody—not even the enterprising, far-sighted Star Plus boss Sameer Nair, who surreptitiously initiated moves to import Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (Kaun Banega Crorepati) into this country—could have guessed what was in store for and on Indian television in and from July 2000 onwards.
The other channels were left looking like honorary denizens of the idiot box (with the stress on idiot). From a distant third, Star Plus simply swept past the competition to emerge way ahead of Zee and Sony Entertainment, who didn’t know what hit them until it was too late.
Who would have thought that Kaun Banega Crorepati would change us into a nation of knowledge-thirsty gamblers? Now children in their free time no longer play—or watch—Antakshari. They play Kaun Banega Crorepati, and everyone wants to be Amitabh Bachchan. An unprecedented Gk wave took over the country.

The gorgeous medium of anime is as explosive as it is elaborate; various series tackle complex matters such as psychology, philosophy, and sociocultural norms. Among the common trends utilized is mythology, specifically sourced from the ancient religions of Hinduism and Buddhism.

Whenever I talk to people from Malaysia or Indonesia, they do not fail to mention that the mainstream cinema of their countries, and essentially the most popular movies, consist mostly of horror and romantic movies. These titles are very rarely exported, to festivals for example, but it seems that in recent years, Netflix, in its constant search for context, has decided to pick up a number, thus allowing them to reach an international audience. Perhaps the reason is the success of directors like Joko Anwar, who has managed to raise the horror genre to rather high levels. Ruben Adrian attempts to do something similar with “Spirited”, by mixing horror with fantasy, in a combination that is quite popular nowadays.

Mumbai, March 1 (Ians) Actress Priya Bathija, who was last seen playing a witch in Ekta Kapoor’s ‘Daayan’, is all set to enter the show ‘Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal’. The actress is returning to TV after two years.
She spoke about her new project and shared what makes the plot of the show interesting.
Commenting on her track and the show, she said: “The story is unique. I am happy to be a part of it. I can’t talk much about my character now. This character is here to add a lot of value to the show. And, of course, it has a lot of twists and turns and a lot of emotions attached. Once we sink into the character, which takes a little time, then we get to compare how much we can relate to the moments or situations in our life, or with the character or with the scene.

ReviewMari Selvaraj's film draws out the interlocking barricades that caste, lack of access, police brutality and power impose on the lives of many people. Bharathy SingaravelThat Mari Selvaraj is as a director and script-writer to watch keenly is unmistakable. With the release of his much-anticipated second film, Karnan, he establishes a formidable space for himself amongst the young, progressive voices of current Tamil cinema. His casting choices have proved impeccable. Santhosh Narayanan’s music washes over the film, perfectly cementing each scene in place. It's hard to think of anyone else among the current crop of young actors who could have carried the weight of the title role as flawlessly as Dhanush does. Give Dhanush a good script and he delivers a performance that has you spellbound. Yaman (Lal) is the older, wiser man who serves both as an impetus to propel the young Karnan towards being the hero his small village needs,...

Mumbai, March 7 (Ians) The epics Ramayan and Mahabharat seem to be the latest favourites of our filmmakers. A host of new films have been launched, with plots that seem influenced by the epics. Not only Bollywood, South Indian film artistes also seem intrigued by the epics lately.
The fetish for Ramayan, particularly, has been seen in Bollywood in the past, too. Sooraj Barjatya's 1999 hit Hum Saath-Saath Hain and Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) are automatic recalls when you think of epic inspiration by way of theme in Bollywood.
These earlier films, though, primarily drew drama quotients from the epics. The upcoming roster promises to explore the stories with bigger production values, to say the least.
Here's a look at what's in store:
Ram Setu
Actor-producer Akshay Kumar has carved his space with patriotism and socially relevant commentary through mainstream films lately. With Abhishek Sharma's Ram Setu, he is falling back on mythology.
