Exclusive: The extraordinary exploits of convicted fraudster Russell King will be recounted in King of All Cons (Wt), a feature doc that has just gone into production. Emmy-nominated Dash Pictures is making the film with Sky in the UK and Matthew Lorenzo Productions, the indie set up by the titular Lorenzo, a former Sky Sports presenter.
Individuals who King duped included Sven Goran Eriksson, the one-time England soccer team manager, as part of an infamous scheme to buy Notts County, the world’s oldest soccer club. The film will use a mix of archive and interviews with the main players on the story, including Eriksson — who disclosed a terminal cancer diagnosis in January. Former England soccer star Sol Campbell also features.
King’s other nefarious exploits include negotiating a deal to extract all of North Korea’s mineral reserves. The action in the film moves between Bahrain, North Korea, London’s plush Dorchester Hotel,...

New Delhi, Dec 30 (Ians) Legendary attacking midfielder Robert Pires regards fellow Frenchman, Thierry Henry as one of the best forwards the world has ever seen, especially during Arsenal’s Invincible season of 2003/04.
“Thierry is one of the best strikers for me. And this moment [2003-04] he was maybe number two just behind Ronaldo, the Brazilian. Thierry was an amazing, amazing player,” said Pires on the Home of Heroes show on Sports 18 and JioCinema.
Pires also believes legendary football manager Arsene Wenger is one of the finest managers in the world. “Oh, for me, Arsene is one of the best managers. I know him for a long, long time because he’s French. I’m French. I used to play for Marseille. He was in Monaco and I remember because he called me six months before I joined Arsenal and for me. Yeah, it was a great call from Arsene, from Arsenal.

New Delhi, Dec 15 (Ians) Former England footballer Sol Campbell feels France deserved to be in their second successive FIFA World Cup final after registering a 2-0 victory over Morocco at Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday.
Theo Hernandez’s goal in the fifth minute and Randal Kolo Muani’s close-range effort in the 79th minute sealed a 2-0 semifinal victory for the defending champions and set up a title clash against Lionel Messi-led Argentina at the Lusail Stadium on December 18.
France, coached by Didier Deschamps, overcame numerous injuries to key players before the start of the tournament, including to Ballon d’Or striker Karim Benzema, to reach the FIFA World Cup 2022 final.
They now have the opportunity to replicate Italy and Brazil to become only the third nation to win back-to-back FIFA World Cup titles.
“Hats off to France. Two finals back-to-back. Not many have done that. Excellent performance. They did enough on the day.

New Delhi, Dec 5 (Ians) In the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar, defending champions France on Sunday secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Poland in their round of 16 clash at the Al-Thumama Stadium.
Star forward Kylian Mbappe scored a brace of goals in the match to help France set-up a quarter-final clash against England. With goals in the 74th and 91st minutes of the match, Mbappe also moved to the top of the goal scorers list this World Cup with five goals.
Now, former England footballer Sol Campbell believes Mbappe has a solid chance of winning the Golden Boot in FIFA World Cup 2022 if he continues his good form against the Harry Kane-led side in the quarter-final.
“If he keeps on going that way, he has a very good chance of being at the top. He gave assists, scored some goals. So, he is adding a lot to his game.

Doha (Qatar), Nov 25 (Ians) Iran received a dramatic late boost to their Qatar 2022 hopes after goals from Rouzbeh Chesmi and Ramin Rezaeian in the 98th and 101st minute respectively, secured a historic 2-0 victory over ten-man Wales at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium here on Friday.
French football coach and former professional player Robert Pires, who played for clubs like Metz and Marseille prior to his time with Arsenal where he won two Fa Cups, was puzzled about Gareth Bale not being aggressive enough around the penalty area.
“I think the Wales players were without energy which was strange. Normally, this guy (Gareth Bale), needs to be in the box area because he’s a very good finisher, he can score goals. But I don’t understand — he was very far away from the box,” Pires said during the programme on Viacom18 Sports’ FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 presentation.

Many an eyebrow would’ve been raised at Sol Campbell’s recent announcement that he intends to stand for election as the next mayor of London. Far be it for anyone to pour scorn on the former defender’s political aspirations, but it does lead nicely into the topic of what footballers do after hanging up their boots. With decades of free time to fill up, many take that logical, well-worn path into TV media. Some of those braver ex-pros may fancy their chances at managing a club. For others, it’s instead a time to perfect their golf swings.
Of course the football landscape has changed so dramatically over the years that many top level footballers may never need to work another day in their life. This wasn’t always the case. In bygone years footballers would have to supplement their football earnings with a second job,...

June Sarpong has discussed her new voting campaign for the upcoming General Election.
The presenter has joined the likes of David Harewood and Sol Campbell in 'whiting up' her face to inspire ethnic minorities and black people to be more politically active.
Appearing on Loose Women, Sarpong explained the thinking behind the campaign, saying: "I was part of the team that put the campaign together. I called up Tinie [Tinie Tempah] and got him to do it. "The message is, if you don't vote you take the colour out of Britain and these people bring colour to the country. It's celebrating diversity."
Revealing pictures of herself for the campaign, she added: "I think it works, don't you?"

A large number of top players have left Tottenham Hotspur over the years. Sol Campbell, Michael Carrick, Dimitar Berbatov, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale spring to mind immediately – but those players had, in their minds, outgrown the club and effectively forced their way out. With that in mind, it was best to let them go, as their hearts were no longer with the Lilywhites and their enduring presence would only have disrupted the White Hart Lane dressing room.
However, there have also obviously been players sold who weren’t as vital to the team as most of the aforementioned superstars and who Spurs decided to sell off their own backs. Some of these players simply never performed, others hadn’t broken in to the first team yet, others didn’t fit the club’s style of play and others were deemed to be...

Spurs have a habit of letting their supporters down when it comes to transfer dealings. With Daniel Levy dipping his nose into the market on multiple occasions each summer, there have inevitably been a host of big-money signings that simply haven’t worked out, as well as some signatures that have failed to capture the imagination of the White Hart Lane faithful. There almost seems to be an air of Levy splashing a bucket of paint at a canvas and hoping some of it sticks, when it comes to his transfer dealings over the last few years. Badly burnt with big-money flops such as Darren Bent and Heurelho Gomes, the Spurs chief has often tried to steer clear and think outside the box, often opting for the less extravagant and less fashionable name. Rio Ferdinand would still be a key Manchester United player if Ryan Giggs had managed to miraculously bag the manager position at Old Trafford.
It has been revealed that Giggs, who became interim manager for the final few games of a tumultuous season for United under David Moyes, would have offered the defender a new contract had he been given the job permanently. Instead, Rio has joined Harry Redknapp at Queens Park Rangers – the man who gave him his first team chance at West Ham United 18 years ago.
“Rio is a top-class guy – anyone who has watched the TV over the World Cup would see what a world-class act he is, on and off the field,” said Redknapp. “He’s a great role model. I signed him as a 14-year-old, so I know him as well as anyone and I’m just so pleased to have him at the club.

Any side with ambitions of winning the Premier League title needs to have a solid spine, a dependable goalkeeper first of all, the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Petr Cech or Edwin Van Der Sar. Two reliable defenders willing to put their body on the line for the team, the likes of John Terry, Jamie Carragher, Nemanja Vidic, Sol Campbell or Vincent Kompany. A striker that can put the ball in the back of the net is surely a must too, Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney or Cristiano Ronaldo, possibly.
But for any great team, perhaps most crucial of all is to have solid central midfield base. One which can fill in and support the defence when needed, but also provide the ammunition for the likes of Henry and Shearer to finish, with an impeccably weighted through-ball or pin-point set piece delivery – they might...

Once upon a time Newcastle United weren’t afraid to spend money. Austerity didn’t really exist at St James’ Park before Mike Ashley dropped into town while financial planning was a mystery concept to ex-chairman Freddy Shepherd and chief note burners Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Ruud Gullit.
It was a strategy that proved more miss than hit over the years as the club would often fork out a kings ransom for a throughly average player and lumber itself with a financial burden on a lucrative five-year contract. Our roll call of extravagantly priced flops is so bad it’s impressive.
But among the masses of damp squibs that Toon supporters have had to grin and bear in the Premier League era there are 10 useless individuals that stand out from the crowd as our most costly transfer mistakes.

With the news last week of Wayne Rooney signing a new deal with Manchester United seeing him earn a whopping £15,600,000-a-year (Telegraph), the debate over whether or not footballers are deserving of these gigantic wages has once again resurfaced.
It’s irrefutable that footballers wages are increasing exponentially. Going back 10-years, Arsenal’s top striker Sol Campbell was on £100,000-a-week (Daily Mail), a mere third of Wazza’s wages. Another 10-years back and legendary Italian midfielder Roberto Baggio earned £50,000-a-week playing for Juve in 1990 (Daily Mail). The trend of footballers being paid more and more with each year which goes by is undeniable. It’s unsurprising then that of these 10 Highest Paid Footballers Ever, only one contract isn’t currently active.
To keep things simple, the players have been ranked in order of their salary alone, not taking account of the money earned through endorsements.

One of the highlights of the footballing calender year is without a doubt the summer transfer window and the prospect of seeing a new star man at your club, and even else where if you are a proper football fan.
The arrival of the likes of Yaya Toure, Carlos Tevez in his West Ham United days and even Luis Suarez (Biting aside) in the Premier League surely left the majority of fans anticipating the talent they had to provide on the pitch, but lets not forget Robinho, it never always works out!
However, it’s not just about big money being spent to “buying yourself to glory” as such, Michael Ballack made a high profile move to Stamford Bridge and not a penny was spent, and the same could be said for the likes of Mark Schwarzer, Sol Campbell and Jay Jay Okocha to Fulham, Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers respectively.

Free agent Mathieu Flamini is on the verge of re-signng for Arséne Wenger’s Arsenal, reports The Guardian.
The 29-year-old midfielder has been training at the club’s Colney Training Ground for the past two weeks, and is expected to agree terms in time to play Saturday’s game with Fulham. He was released by Milan at the end of last season, having spent 4 years at the Italian outfit.
Wenger has a penchant for re-introducing stars who once played with him into his side, with Flamini set to join the likes of Sol Campbell, Thierry Henry, and Jens Lehmann, who have all spent brief periods back at the club in recent seasons.
Arsenal are suffering from a mini-crisis in the middle of the park, with Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alou Diaby all suffering from long-term injuries. Flamini is also a very versatile player who can cover the full-back positions as well,...

How an onstage Q&A with the great drummer turned into a professional horror show
The video above doesn't really capture the full horror of my thankfully brief time with Ginger Baker. It was an onstage Q&A at the Curzon Soho cinema in London, after a screening of the excellent documentary Beware of Mr Baker, and the best that can be said is that – having already seen the film – I knew what to expect.
The title alone tells you pretty much all you need to know – but in the course of the film scores of collaborators and family members outline that while he may be one of the greatest musicians these shores have ever produced, Baker isn't all that much of a pleasure to be around. Mind you, you don't need other people to tell you that; the evidence is there in the interviews with him, in which scorn...

It’s now been over 7 years since a trophy was last seen in the hands of Arsenal, a team which back then consisting of Premier League greats such as Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Sol Campbell, Dennis Bergkamp and Robert Pires, and a team constructed by the intelligence and nous of Arsene Wenger. The last victorious Gunners side was one built on the triple pillars of leadership, desire and a winning mentality.
From the deft touch of Dennis Bergkamp, to the blistering pace of the king Thierry Henry, the Arsenal team used to destroy the opposition, laying down markers of their dominance in the process. UEFA have confirmed reports of “isolated incidents of racist chanting” aimed at the Netherland’s team squad during an open training session.
Team captain Mark Van Bommel claimed “monkey chants” were aimed at his team mates.
Racism has been a major concern for UEFA chiefs ahead of this summers European Championships. Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli claimed he would “murder” anyone who aimed racist chants at him and that he would walk off the pitch in protest. UEFA president Michael Platini however has warned any player who decides to walk off the pitch in protest of racist chanting will be booked.
Of this particular incident, UEFA have not yet revealed whether they are investigating.
“Should such behaviour happen at further training sessions, Uefa would evaluate the operational measures to be taken to protect players,” Uefa said.
Fear of potential racism at the Euro tournament in Poland and Ukraine were highlighted...

Author Jk Rowling, actor Sienna Miller, lawyer Mark Thomson, former F1 chief Max Mosley and 'Hjk' to appear at high court
'Hjk'
An anonymous member of the public who had a relationship with an unidentified celebrity. The barrister David Sherborne told the Leveson inquiry that a newspaper doorstepped Hjk out of the blue in 2006, and that the News of the World subsequently hacked their phone. "The effect on Hjk was profound," Sherborne said. "The story about the quintessentially private relationship almost hit the headlines, but was displaced by another story which, thankfully, blew up the same day." Hjk was also followed by a photographer who took pictures shortly after they had been diagnosed with a serious illness, prompting them to fear newspapers had obtained sensitive medical information. "Hjk would not be the first to have suffered such a fate," Sherborne said. Hjk will be giving evidence in private.

The only undefeated run in English football was surrendered last week when Newcastle United were overturned by Blackburn Rovers in the Carling Cup on Wednesday in a thrilling encounter. Tonight live on Sky Sports Monday Night Football The Geordies will be hopeful of preserving their unbeaten run in the league for at least a few games longer. They travel to Stoke and the Britannia Stadium, an unhappy hunting ground where United usually fail miserably and last season’s heavy 4-0 thrashing was a game Alan Pardew got his tactics completely wrong.
But defensively they are a much stronger unit these days. Jose Enrique’s head had been turned by the time the Stoke game turned up on the fixture list last season and he was subbed before half time after looking particularly uninterested (the official word was that he was carrying an injury) and Sol Campbell was part of a...

Tonight Arsenal will play Udinese in a two leg Champions League encounter that they should never have been involved in. They will do it without their previous captain, Cesc Fabregas whom they have just sold to Barcelona in one of the most inevitable but ill timed transfers of all time, without their new captain Robin Van Persie – their attacking focal point and without manager Arsene Wenger who is banned from not only the bench and dressing room but also from communicating with them before and during the game.
It’s worth highlighting that the Italian club have also had their best player Alex Sanchez, pillaged by Barcelona as well as losing Gokhan Inler and Christain Zapata. They are also two weeks behind Arsenal in terms of preparation for the season ahead and Arsenal have enjoyed success against Italian teams over the last decade winning seven times, drawing three and losing just twice.

Lawyers for interior designer Kelly Hoppen claim material 'drives coach and horses' through News International's defence
The Metropolitan police have been accused of misleading behaviour in the phone-hacking scandal after handing over evidence they had twice claimed did not exist.
The latest embarrassment for Scotland Yard was disclosed in the high court in the case of Sienna Miller's stepmother, Kelly Hoppen, who claims that a News of the World journalist, Dan Evans, attempted to hack into her voicemail. The court heard she was a tabloid target because of her friendships with the former England footballer Sol Campbell and with Madonna's former husband, film director Guy Ritchie.
The case also threatens to embarrass the NoW because the alleged hacking occurred in June 2009 – three years after the arrest of its then royal correspondent, Clive Goodman, who was jailed with the paper's private investigator, Glenn Mulcaire, on the basis that he...

Gay theater reviews, Janice Dickinson plans to sing, Adam Lambert to mentor American Idol, and yet more naked celebrities!
Out Dancing With the Stars judge Bruno Tonioli
Today in Britain, they released pictures of a number of stars and athletes with their kits off. I don't understand how Give Up Clothes For Good plans to do about cancer with this, but I can certainly appreciate the gesture. And the fact that two of the male celebrities are out doesn't hurt either! Warning! Tasteful nudity ahead, folks. Out television presenter Christopher Biggins. I really used to think CNN was somewhere in the middle of the political spectrum, especially compared to MSNBC and Fox News. But they keep having discredited nutjobs on to discuss gay issues, like today when "ex-gay" conversionist Richard Cohen was presented as a psychotherapist (he's not,his license was revoked) to discuss repeal of California's 1950 law to "search for a cure for homosexuality.

She also revealed how the actress’s husband Simon Monjack was ‘staggering around’ in shock as the emergency services performed mouth to mouth on his wife.
