Elsbeth’s season 1 run is far from being over with the final episode set to be released on May 25, but a brand new clip gives a major hint at some exciting guest appearances in the upcoming episodes.
A police procedural comedy drama, Elsbeth follows an eccentric attorney whose shrewd observations come in handy when she needs to deal with New York’s criminal world — and it looks like she will get some help from Hollywood’s famous comedians.
The one-minute-long brand new trailer opens with the scene where Elsbeth introduces herself to a couple with the woman describing Elsbeth as “that odd woman that works with the police'', also calling her funny.
The main character then proceeds to interact with Keegan-Michael Key explaining to him that she used to be a lawyer back in the day, but then found her vocation in solving murder cases — both characters later appear to...

Exclusive: CBS’ Elsbeth will count on three additional guest stars for its Season 1 cast: Elizabeth Lail (Five Nights At Freddy’s), Arian Moayed (Succession) and Laura Benanti (The Gilded Age). Following a brief hiatus, the show returns April 4 with two episodes.
Elsbeth follows the titular Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston), an astute but unconventional attorney who utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD following her successful career in Chicago. The character first appeared in The Good Wife and later in The Good Fight spinoff.
In addition to Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson round out the series regular cast as Captain Wagner and Kaya Blanke, respectively. Gloria Reuben recurs as Wagner’s wife, Claudia Payne. The cast is small as the police procedural dramedy depends on a healthy supply of guest stars like Stephen Moyer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Linda Lavin and Blair Underwood,...

The actors from the current revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s “Merrily We Roll Along” have skyrocketed in Gold Derby’s combined odds for the 2024 Tony Awards nominations. The prediction center displays commanding leads for Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe to win their respective categories. This is an understandable result considering this revival is the hottest ticket in town and this trio of performers has been ever-present in the media. But how often does a trio of actors from the same production pull off three separate acting victories at the Tony Awards?
It’s quite common for a musical to grab two acting trophies, but three awards is much rarer. To date, only 15 musical productions have earned three acting wins. The first time this feat occurred was at the 1956 ceremony, which was ironically the first time the Tony Awards ever announced a slate of nominees (previously...

Amy Schumer booked a recognizable psychic for the second season of her Hulu series Life & Beth.
As the trailer revealed, Jennifer Coolidge makes a cameo in Schumer’s follow-up season. And now a new clip, dropped on Thursday, shows nearly two minutes of the anticipated scene, which comes in the third episode of the 10-episode season, which releases in full on Thursday.
Playing a New Orleans psychic named Madame de Merde, the Emmy-winning White Lotus actress has been booked for a reading by Beth (Schumer), who brings another season two guest character — played by Amy Sedaris — along for the appointment. As the teaser shows, however, Beth doesn’t exactly get a good vibe during their introduction.

In 2022, Amy Schumer starred in two different series. One was the long-delayed fifth season of her sketch comedy show Inside Amy Schumer, which had been absent for six years while Schumer focused on family and on other professional opportunities. The other was Hulu’s Life & Beth, a semi-autobiographical dramedy where Schumer played an unhappy woman who moved back into her childhood home in Long Island after the loss of her mother, trying for a fresh start to a life that hadn’t gone as she once hoped.

Monday is always the most packed day of New York Fashion Week, and for anyone who’s been around long enough to remember the convenience of the Bryant Park tents or the similar setups at Lincoln Center or downtown on Washington Street, the industry abandoning that idea has caused some consternation among several editors who now must trek between South Street buildings with spectacular views of the Statue of Liberty to the west side of Midtown and then to the Upper East Side and back again. It is undeniably time-consuming, resulting in shows that must be skipped.

“I was obsessed with Edith Wharton when I was a teenager. That whole world was very much a part of my imagination when I was a young girl,” remembers Deborah Kampmeier, who directs two episodes of the second season of “The Gilded Age.” The HBO drama series draws heavily on the works of the legendary writer, and the director’s affinity for her writing and the opportunity to step into “the decadence of the world” of that period drew her to the project. She was also inspired by the “epic nature of the style” of the show that was established in its first season by directors Michael Engler and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
To acclimate herself to the visual style of the lavish period piece, which is set in 1880s New York, Kampmeier “really studied season one,” sharing, “I watched those episodes multiple times.” She worked...

The Gilded Age loves a scandal, and Sunday’s episode gave us a doozy. Remember that young widow who was looking to hire someone to remodel her house? Well, Larry scored the coveted gig this week — and they’ll be doing most of their work in her bedroom.
That’s right, we’re only two episodes into the new season and we’ve already got ourselves a good old-fashioned forbidden romance, all the better that Larry’s love interest is played by Laura Benanti. But there’s much more to her character, the quick-witted Susan Blaine, than meets the eye.

It has been a long 19 months since we’ve been able to luxuriate in a withering line from Christine Baranski’s Agnes van Rhijn, but fans of “The Gilded Age” may now celebrate as the HBO drama has returned with its second season. After the first batch of episodes ended with Carrie Coon’s social climber Bertha Russell making significant inroads with “old money” New York, these new episodes will find her at odds with the old guard once again as they go head-to-head with rivaling opera houses. The season premiere aired on Oct. 29 on HBO and streamed on Max.
With such an operatic season arc and its many other subplots, “The Gilded Age” has avoided a sophomore slump. As of this writing, the show has a 74 score on Metacritic, indicating “generally favorable” reviews. It is also certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% freshness score, with their critical consensus reading,...

The Gilded Age Season Two begins with hats. Lots and lots and lots of hats. It is Easter Sunday, and all the women of 1880s New York society are putting on their fanciest headgear before heading to church. And by far the most fabulous hat of all is the one you can see in the picture at the top of this review, a towering concoction of feathers and flowers, placed atop the head of the show’s richest woman, Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon).

As an actor, Matthew Perry was nominated for four Emmys. He was a regular in the generation-defining ensemble smash Friends and, as a guest star, seamlessly integrated into the spectacular ensemble on shows like The West Wing and The Good Wife.
The show that best understood Perry’s sensibility and, more than that, the essence of what he projected best onscreen may not have been one of his signature successes, and may not be one of the first half-dozen shows that heartbroken fans look back on as we reflect on Perry, who died this weekend at 54. Empirically, it wasn’t a success at all.
Go On ran for 22 episodes on NBC between 2012 and 2013 and was canceled after that lone season. It has fans — any show with an ensemble that included Tyler James Williams, Laura Benanti, Brett Gelman, Sarah Baker, John Cho and more is going to find fans — but only a small audience.

For a series stuffed to the gills with Tony Award-winning actors, it makes perfect sense that the second season of “The Gilded Age” would find its ensemble embroiled in a plot over dueling opera houses. As Carrie Coon’s social climber Bertha Russell says at the beginning of the new trailer, “I intend to bring the great city of New York the opera house it deserves.” That development puts her at odds once again with the moneyed old guard of the city, played by Christine Baranski and Donna Murphy. Stephen Sondheim has almost never been more popular than in the two years since his passing in November 2021. In that time, celebrated revivals of “Company,” “Into the Woods,” and “Sweeney Todd” have come to Broadway, and successful remounting of “Assassins” and “Merrily We Roll Along” have played Off-Broadway, which is a testament to the enduring appeal of his works.
This fall will once again spotlight Sondheim. The tremendously successful Off-Broadway run of “Merrily” starring Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez, and Daniel Radcliffe opens on Broadway on October 10, which will mark the first remounting since its original, unsuccessful run in 1981. In addition, his final musical “Here We Are,” which is based on two Luis Buñuel films—“The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie” and “The Exterminating Angel”—will have its highly-anticipated world premiere Off-Broadway, opening on October 22.

Let’s get this out of the way. Yes, Jennifer Lawrence is fully, frontally, nude for a few minutes of this rom-com. It’s in character and far from salacious, merely adding to the humor and delineating her character.
That said, the R-rated rom-com No Hard Feelings out now from Sony Home Entertainment, is disappointingly predictable, using the nudity to break the typical pattern, adding little to the genre, which needs some fresh life.
Lawrence’s Maddie Barker is in dire need of a new car after the one she used for her Uber gig got repossessed to pay tax debts. She’s 32, barely hanging on, and in need of a lifeline.
Said lifeline comes in the form of the Beckers (Laura Benanti and Matthew Broderick) who want their son Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) to gain some confidence and maybe some sexual experience before heading off to Princeton in the fall.

Major stage and musical performers showed for Joe Biden’s reelection campaign Monday, with a Broadway for Biden fundraiser in which the president quipped about his age but also put the campaign in stark terms.
“I’m running because democracy is at stake, because [in] 2024 democracy is on the ballot once again,” Biden said at the event at New York’s Lunt-Fontanne Theater, per a pool report. “And let there be no question: Donald Trump and his Maga Republicans are determined to destroy American democracy. And I will always defend, protect and fight for our democracy.”
Biden also chided Trump for his refusal to criticize Vladimir Putin. “I will not side with dictators like Putin,” Biden said.
The event was announced last month, with appearances by Josh Groban, Ben Platt, Sara Bareilles, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr and Laura Benanti. Tickets were priced from $250 for rear mezzanine seats to $7,500 for orchestra center front.
