“We seemed to always be rushed and under the gun,” a key crew member on the troubled Rust film told a New Mexico jury today in the involuntary manslaughter trial of armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.
Describing the Alec Baldwin-starring indie western as “budgetarily restricted” and in a constant “state of chaos,” dolly grip Ross Addiego testified that the film was “moving at ludicrous speeds, racing the production clock” in its initial two weeks of production in Santa Fe. Amid tears, Addiego also gave detailed and emotional remarks about what happened on the set when Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot in October 2021.
One of the few members of Rust’s camera department who opted to stay on the movie after disputes about money and safety, Addiego bluntly told Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer, the jury and others in the courtroom that “safety seemed to be secondary” on the set. He...

Alec Baldwin’s motion to dismiss a civil lawsuit brought by three “Rust” crew members on set for the 2021 accidental fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins was denied Wednesday, as was his request to have the matter postponed until after any criminal trials have concluded.
New Mexico District Court Judge Bryan Biedscheid swiftly dispatched the dismissal motion brought by Baldwin along with codefendants El Dorado Pictures and Rust Movie Productions.
The lawsuit was filed this year by crew members Ross Adding, a dolly operator; Doran Curtin, a set costumer and Reese Price, a key grip. All say they were inside the New Mexico church at the time of the shooting and are seeking unspecified damages for “blast injuries” and post-traumatic stress anxiety.
Earlier this week, the criminal trial of Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer charged with manslaughter responsible for the weapon, was pushed back to February of next year. No specific reason...

Facing a potential refiling of criminal charges in the fatal 2021 shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Alec Baldwin on Wednesday failed in an attempt to have a civil case over the tragedy dismissed.
In a technically challenged virtual hearing this morning before New Mexico’s First Judicial District Court judge Bryan Biedscheid, Baldwin and co-defendants El Dorado Pictures and Rust Movie Productions’ motion to dismiss was denied. The judge also denied an additional motion to stay the matter until the criminal trial is over.
Earlier this year, Rust crew members Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin and Reese Price took Baldwin and the production companies to court for “negligent and reckless conduct.” Facing a plethora of cases arising out of the shooting on the indie Western, the defendants had a back-up plan to have the Addiego, Curtin and Price case stayed until the Rust criminal trial is over.

Special prosecutors have not decided whether criminal charges will be refiled against Alec Baldwin in the fatal 2021 shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, but the actor this week is trying to stop crew members from the indie Western from taking him to court.
Meanwhile, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has seen her criminal trial kicked down the road to next year.
Attorneys for Baldwin and El Dorado Pictures have filed a motion to dismiss the civil case brought in February by Rust crew members Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin and Reese Price, who accused Baldwin and the producers of “negligent and reckless conduct.” Hedging their bets, the defendants also have a motion pending to stay the whole matter until the Rust criminal trial is done and determined.
New Mexico’s First Judicial District Court has a hearing set for Wednesday on those motions, with the outcome potentially creating a significant blast radius for not just the criminal case,...

Once again, Alec Baldwin and Rust producers are being taken to court by crew members of the indie Western over the fatal 2021 on-set shooting of cinematographer Haylna Hutchins.
Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin and Reese Price filed suit against Baldwin and the production for negligence. The trio, who were there when the 1880s prop gun Baldwin was holding went off during rehearsal and killed Hutchins, also claim that Baldwin pulled the trigger – something the actor, who has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, has long denied.
“On October21, 2021, Defendant Alexander R Baldwin Ill fired a Colt 45 revolver towards the crew on the set of the movie Rust, killing the film’s Director of Photography — Halyna Hutchins — and injuring Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin, and Reese Price (“Plaintiffs”),” reads the jury-seeking complaint (read it here) filed in the increasingly busy New Mexico courts. “These injuries were caused by Defendants’ failure to follow industry safety rules.
