Another sitcom great is headed to ABC's The Conners.
Per Deadline, Murphy Brown star Candice Bergen is joining the cast of the Roseanne spinoff in the role of Ben's mother, Barb.
She arrives in Landford following an unexpected death and “unveils shocking information from the past.”
However, Barb is highly judgmental of her son’s relationship with Darlene and is not impressed in the slightest with their pairing.
She has “a superior air and a sharp tongue” but is “much more agreeable when she’s had a few drinks.”
Bergen is, of course, best known for Murphy Brown, a show she led between 1988 and 1998.
A revival aired on CBS in 2018, but the network pulled the plug after 13 episodes because the ratings were not as strong as expected.
The beloved actress most recently appeared opposite Meryl Streep, and Dianne Wiest in the Steven Soderbergh film Let Them All Talk, which premiered on HBO Max on Dec.

Exclusive: Classic TV comedies Murphy Brown and Roseanne ran on parallel tracks — they premiered within weeks of each other in fall 1988 for similarly long runs and came back with revivals that debuted just months apart. Now, in a powerhouse sitcom team-up, Murphy Brown star Candice Bergen will appear on ABC’s Roseanne spinoff, The Conners.
Guest starring on Jan 13 when The Conners‘ third season returns, Bergen will play Ben’s (Jay R. Ferguson) mother, Barb. Their relationship can best be described as cool. Despite being from Lanford, Barb has a superior air and a sharp tongue, but she’s much more agreeable when she’s had a few drinks. She’s judgmental about Ben’s relationship with Darlene (Sara Gilbert), and describes the Conner house as, “Like one of those places they break into on that program Cops.” (Watch the promo for Bergen’s appearance above).

When Roseanne returned to ABC last season, it was a sensation right from out of the gate, giving every indication that we would get several more years of the show at the very least. Then, of course, Roseanne Barr posted a tweet deemed racist and the network immediately cancelled the series. That, it seemed, was that. But then the rumblings began that there would be a spin-off without Roseanne, and that show — The Conners — has just gone into production. Hours later, we got our first teaser! The 15-second clip is definitely meant to build excitement for the show. It simply shows the Conners' living room and iconic ugly couch, and as it zooms in to the tune of "Anticipation" by Carly Simon, the words "What's next?" appear on screen, followed by "The Conners" and "premieres Tuesday Oct. 16, 8/7c." Just hours earlier, we got our first cast photo from the set.
